In clinical antiepileptie therapy it has been observed that the simultaneous administration of diphenylhydantoin and various other drugs causes toxic reactions to diphenylhydantoin. I t was found that disulfiram (Olesen, 1966) as well as ehloramphenieol (Christensen and Skovsted, 1969) cause toxic effects in patients treated with diphenylhydantoin. They are attributed to an increased concentration of diphenylhydantoin in the plasma. Analogous observations show that chloramphenieol enhances the clinical effects of tolbutamide and dicoumarol (Christensen and Skovsted, 1969). The PYRIN domain is a conserved sequence motif identified in more than 20 human proteins with putative functions in apoptotic and inflammatory signalling pathways. The three-dimensional structure of the PYRIN domain from human ASC was determined by NMR spectroscopy. The structure determination reveals close structural similarity to death domains, death effector domains, and caspase activation and recruitment domains, although the structural alignment with these other members of the death-domain superfamily differs from previously predicted amino acid sequence alignments. Contrast agents based on dextran-coated superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIO) are internalized by professional phagocytes such as hepatic Kupffer cells, yet their role in phagocyte biology remains largely unknown. Here we investigated the effects of the SPIO ferucarbotran on murine Kupffer cells and human macrophages. Intravenous injection of ferucarbotran into mice led to rapid accumulation of the particles in phagocytes and to long-lasting increased iron deposition in liver and kidneys. The major trait characterizing offspring in centenarians is a reduction in the prevalence of cardiovascular disease. Because a pro-inflammatory genotype seems to contribute significantly to the risk of coronary heart disease, alleles associated with disease susceptibility would not be included in the genetic background favoring longevity, as suggested by our previous studies on inflammatory cytokines. In Italia, secondo la recentissima sintesi di Bartolucci et al., la flora vascolare nativa sarebbe rappresentata da 1092 generi di piante vascolari. Fra di essi ricorre Sorbus L. (Rosaceae) a cui vengono attribuiti 11 taxa specifici e sottospecifici (ivi compresi alcuni taxa ibridogeni) e un dodicesimo taxon da confermare nel territorio italiano. Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in young adult presents a typical pattern of risk factors, clinical, angiographic and prognostic characteristics. In the last years we demonstrated that hemorheological profile is altered in these patients in a persistent way and independently of the number of risk factors and of the extent of coronary lesions. Thus, the hyperviscosity syndrome following AMI could be considered an intrinsic characteristic of these patients. Consequently it is possible to hypothesise the presence of a genetic background at the origin of this predisposition.
