Automated Determination of Paroxetine and Its Main Metabolite by Column Switching and On-Line High-Performance Liquid Chromatography

1994

An automated column-switching method coupled to isocratic high-performance liquid chromatography has been developed for simultaneous determination of blood levels of paroxetine and its nonconjugated main metabolite BRL 36610. The lower limits of detection were 9-15 nmol/L (3-5 ng/ml) and linearity between drug concentration and detector response was found for 0-1,500 nmol/L (0-500 ng/ml). The method could be applied to the analysis of serum samples obtained from depressed patients who were treated with daily oral doses of 20 or 40 mg of paroxetine. After the 20-mg dose, the mean blood level of paroxetine was 69 nM (23 ng/ml), whereas the metabolite BRL 36610 was detectable in only one of 5 …

Carbonyl metallo immuno assay: a new application for Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy

2000

Abstract We describe here the development of a new, non-isotopic immunological assay termed CMIA (carbonyl metallo immunoassay) that uses metal carbonyl complexes as tracers and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) as the detection method. This assay is based on the particular spectral features of these complexes, which show very strong absorption bands in the 1800–2200 cm −1 spectral range where proteins and organic molecules do not absorb. In Section 1 , the optimisation of the quantitative detection of these tracers is detailed. In Section 2 , the implementation of mono-CMIA is described, including the CMIA assays of three antiepileptic drugs (carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phe…

Production of specific antibodies and development of a non-isotopic immunoassay for carbamazepine by the carbonyl metallo-immunoassay (CMIA) method.

1995

Abstract As part of our ongoing work to extend the range of applications of the non-isotopic carbonyl metalloimmunoassay (CMIA), previously developed in our laboratory, we describe here the first CMIA study of carbamazepine. The CMIA method uses a metal carbonyl complex as a non-isotopic tracer, and in this case we chose to employ the dicobalt hexacarbonyl moiety (Co2(CO)6) attached to an alkyne. Two organometallic tracers, 3 and 7 , were synthesized, differentiated by the nature and length of the spacer arm of the Co2(CO)6 moiety. Two different coupling methods were subsequently used to synthesize the immunogens 1 and 2, the first one used a carbodiimide, while the second, employed dimethy…

High-performance liquid chromatographic, capillary electrophoretic and capillary electrophoretic–electrospray ionisation mass spectrometric analysis …

2002

Systems for efficient separation of selected alkaloid groups by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), capillary electrophoresis (CE) and capillary electrophoresis coupled with electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (CE-ESI-MS) are described. The optimized HPLC system was applied for the separation of 23 standard indole alkaloids as well as for qualitative and quantitative analyses of crude alkaloid extracts of Rauvolfia serpentina X Rhazya stricta hybrid cell cultures. The developed conditions for CE analysis proved to be efficient for separation of mixtures of standard indole and beta-carboline alkaloids. The described buffer system is also applicable in the combination of CE w…

Aggregation of the web performance of internal university units as a method of quantitative analysis of a university system: The case of Spain

2013

The aggregation of web performance (page count and visibility) of internal university units could constitute a more precise indicator than the overall web performance of the universities and, therefore, be of use in the design of university web rankings. In order to test this hypothesis, a longitudinal analysis of the internal units of the Spanish university system was conducted over the course of 2010. For the 13800 URLs identified, page count and visibility was calculated using the Yahoo API. The internal values obtained were aggregated by university and compared with the values obtained from the analysis of the university general URLs. The results indicate that, although the correlations…

Quantitative analysis of oat by Infrared spectroscopy

1999

Oat products as a source of soluble dietary fibre have shown to exhibit distinct hypocholesterolemic and hypoglycaemic effects in humans and recently have become a key focus of the nutrition and medical communities. Interest in assaying the contents of (1→3), (1→4)-β-D-ghican, referred to hereafter as β-glucan, in barley, malt and oat has been increasing because of its nutritional and technological importance [1].

Simultaneous determination of levodopa methyl ester, levodopa, 3-O-methyldopa and dopamine in plasma by high-performance liquid chromatography with e…

1994

A new procedure is described for the simultaneous determination of levodopa methyl ester (LDME) and its biotransformation products levodopa (L-DOPA), 3-O-methyldopa (3-OMD) and dopamine (DA) in stabilized plasma samples, using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. A coulometric detector equipped with a dual-electrode system operating in the redox mode was used to simultaneously quantitate all compounds. This system generated a double signal monitored by a dual-channel acquisition data system and allowed quantitation of compounds at the nanogram level. The intra- and inter-assay precision varied in the 2.4-6.9% and 3.2-9.1% ranges respectively, whereas the recoveries were cl…

Quantitative Analysis of Real-Time Infrared Thermography for the Assessment of Lumbar Sympathetic Blocks: A Preliminary Study

2021

Lumbar sympathetic blocks (LSBs) are commonly performed to treat pain ailments in the lower limbs. LSBs involve injecting local anesthetic around the nerves. The injection is guided by fluoroscopy which is sometimes considered to be insufficiently accurate. The main aim was to analyze the plantar foot skin temperature data acquired while performing LSBs in patients with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) affecting the lower limbs. Forty-four LSBs for treating lower limb CRPS in 13 patients were assessed. Pain medicine physicians visualized the infrared thermography (IRT) video in real time and classified the performance depending on the observed thermal changes within the first 4 min. Th…

A Quantitative Analysis of the Romanian Translations of Shakespeare’s Bawdy Puns

2020

This article proposes a quantitative analysis of the Romanian translations of 325 ribald Shakespearean puns, which originate in 20 plays and 71 renditions, with special focus on assessing the impact of translator-subjective and objective factors on the rendition process in the pre-communist, communist, and post-communist periods. The findings invalidate several widespread beliefs: Dragoș Protopopescu’s renditions, banned by the communist regime for their ‘modernizing’ approach to the Shakespearean text, bowdlerized more bawdy puns than ‘ESPLA’, which replaced it as the Party-approved Romanian edition of the dramatist’s plays; Adolphe Stern’s translations, harshly criticized in his period, f…
