Working outside academia? : perceptions of early-career, fixed-term researchers on changing careers

This article examines the perceptions of early-career, fixed-term researchers in Finnish universities towards changing careers. It maps out the reasons this group has considered the change and where they see themselves in five years. As a theoretical framework, a synthesisation of variables related to career change, created by Ryan, Healy, and Sullivan [2012. “Oh, Won’t You Stay? Predictors of Faculty Intent to Leave a Public University.” Higher Education 63: 421–437.], was used. The results show that the most common reasons for early-career researchers to change careers are job-security related stress, job-related dissatisfaction, and salary. Adaptive genetic divergence occurs when selection imposed by the environment causes the genomic component of the phenotype to differentiate. However, genomic signatures of natural selection are usually identified without information on which trait is responding to selection by which selective agent(s). Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa tarkastellaan, miten evakkous, siirtokarjalaisuus ja asutustilallisuus vaikuttivat Laatokan Karjalasta Pohjois-Savoon evakuoidun Mureen perheen elämäntapaan. Kesällä 1944 Mureen perhe, johon kuuluivat leskiäiti ja viisi aikuista lasta, joutui evakkoon Salmin Kirkkojoelta Lapinlahden Alapitkälle. Kesällä 1947 Yrjö Mure kirjoitti hallintasopimuksen asuntoviljelystilasta Lapinlahden Alapitkältä, ja seuraavana vuonna tilalle valmistui väliaikainen asunto. Neighborhood resources associated with active travel in older adults: A cohort study in six European Countries

Objectives: To study associations between perceived neighborhood resources and time spent by older adults in active travel. Methods: Respondents in six European countries, aged 65–85 years, reported on the perceived presence of neighborhood resources (parks, places to sit, public transportation, and facilities) with response options “a lot,” “some,” and “not at all.” Daily active travel time (total minutes of transport-related walking and cycling) was self-reported at the baseline (n = 2,695) and 12–18 months later (n = 2,189).
