Weathering of low-density polyethylene grafted with itaconic acid in laboratory tests

Polyethylene grafted with itaconic acid was subjected to weathering under laboratory accelerated conditions. The course of the photo-oxidative degradation process of that material was studied by FTIR spectroscopy both through quantitative measurements of changes in absorbance values at selected wave numbers and through measurements of surface area values for absorption bands which were separated by means of deconvolution. Effect of Er3+-doping on 65GeS2-25Ga2S3-10CsCl glass probed by annihilating positrons

Abstract Effect of Er3+-doping resulting in pronounced mid-IR fluorescence functionality was examined first in chalcohalide 65GeS2-25Ga2S3-10CsCl glass using positron annihilation lifetime (PAL) spectroscopy. The detected PAL spectra were reconstructed from unconstrained x2-term analysis employing two-state simple trapping model for one kind of positron trapping free-volume defects, the parameterization being performed at the example of 65GeS2-25Ga2S3-10CsCl glass doped with 0.6 at. % of Er3+. L'enjeu majeur de durcissement de ces composants est abordé via des techniques telles que le chargement en hydrogène et/ou le co-dopage au Cérium du cœur des fibres optiques. Invasive breast cancer in ectopic axillary breast tissue — case report

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed malignancy in women in Poland. Rare, unusual forms of breast cancer remain a diagnostic problem. The incidence of ectopic breast glandular tissue in the general population varies between 0.4 and 6%. The same abnormalities and diseases as in the anatomical mammary gland may develop in this tissue. Breast cancer may develop as well. We present the case of a 36-year-old woman, who went to the doctor because of a nodule in the right armpit presented for 2 years. First observation and study of the K± → π±π0e+e− decay

The NA48/2 experiment at CERN reports the first observation of the K-+/- -> pi(+/-)pi(0)e(+)e(-) decay from an exposure of 1.7 x 10(11) charged kaon decays recorded in 2003-2004. A sample of 4919 candidates with 4.9% background contamination allows the determination of the branching ratio in the full kinematic region, BR(K-+/- -> pi(+/-)pi(0)e(+)e(-)) = (4.24 +/- 0.14) x 10(-6). The study of the kinematic space shows evidence for a structure dependent contribution in agreement with predictions based on chiral perturbation theory. Several P- and CP-violating asymmetries are also evaluated.

Rare beta decays and the spectrum-shape method

This is a thesis consisting of seven publications and an introductory part on theoretical studies on rare single beta decays. Firstly, the theoretical framework is applied to the computation of partial half-lives for few selected cases of rare single beta-decay transitions. This includes the study on a possible ultra-low-Q-value decay branch of 115Cd as well as the highly forbidden beta decays of 48Ca and 50V. The double magic 48Ca is one of the few experimentally verified nuclei that decay via the two-neutrino mode of double beta decay. Crystal field and magnetism with Wannier functions: Rare-earth doped aluminum garnets

Using the recently developed method we calculate the crystal field parameters in yttrium and lutetium aluminum garnets doped with seven trivalent Kramers rare-earth ions. We then insert calculated parameters into the atomic-like Hamiltonian taking into account the electron-electron, spin-orbit and Zeeman interactions and determine the multiplet splitting by the crystal field as well as magnetic $\hat{g}$ tensors. We compare calculated results with available experimental data.

Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on kuvailla ruotsin kielen aineenopettajiksi opiskelevien käsityksiä opettajan roolista, tehtävistä sekä heidän omasta tulevasta opettajaidentiteetistään. Aineisto kerättiin teemahaastattelun avulla ja analysoitiin kvalitatiivisesti. Haastatteluun osallistui seitsemän opiskelijaa, jotka kaikki olivat jo pääsykokeessa saaneet opinto-oikeuden sekä ruotsin kieleen että opettajan pedagogisiin opintoihin. Opiskelijat valittiin siten, että yksikään heistä ei tutkimushetkellä eli syksyllä 2011 ollut aloittanut opettajan pedagogisia aineopintoja.
