High Temperature Study of Metamict Steenstrupine

2010

Metamict minerals contain radioactive elements that degrade their crystal structure. Unlike other metamict minerals, annealing process under ambient pressure do not lead to direct recrystallization of steenstrupine.

Preparation and recrystallization behavior of spray-dried co-amorphous naproxen–indomethacin

2016

To improve the dissolution properties and the physical stability of amorphous active pharmaceutical ingredients, small molecule stabilizing agents may be added to prepare co-amorphous systems. The objective of the study was to investigate if spray-drying allows the preparation of co-amorphous drug-drug systems such as naproxen-indomethacin and to examine the influence of the process conditions on the resulting initial sample crystallinity and the recrystallization behavior of the drug(s). For this purpose, the process parameters inlet temperature and pump feed rate were varied according to a 2(2) factorial design and the obtained samples were analyzed with X-ray powder diffractometry and Fo…

Conditioning following powder micronization: influence on particle growth of salbutamol sulfate.

2003

Micronization is a high-energy process that induces changes in the crystallinity of materials. As a result, the crystalline structures on the particles' surface are being destroyed and amorphous areas are formed. After micronization of salbutamol sulfate to be used in dry powder inhalers, only small amounts of amorphous material are produced. Nevertheless, even these small amounts can have important effects on the physical stability of the powder. The amorphous state is thermodynamically unstable and tends to convert to the stable, crystalline state. The recrystallization process of disordered regions on the particles' surface leads to particle growth of milled particles. In this case, brid…

Influence of molecular weight and polydispersity on phase behaviour of polyesters with laterally fixed or cross-shaped mesogens

1991

Abstract To supplement previous studies of polyesters with laterally attached and cross-shaped mesogens the influence of molecular weight and molecular weight distribution on the phase behaviour has been investigated. For that purpose two polyesters have been fractionated by preparative gel permeation chromatography under high pressure and observed by polarizing microscopy and DSC measurements. A monotropic nematic polyester with laterally attached mesogens shows changing phase transitions up to a molecular weight of 10 000 (Mw); at higher molecular weight only the clearing transition is still slightly influenced. The molecular weight distribution at an average molecular weight of 15 000 (M…

Deep center luminescence versus surface preparation of ZnSe single crystals

2001

A close relationship between the photoluminescence emissions labeled Y and S, related to dislocations and extended structural defects, and the preparation of the surface state of ZnSe single crystals before PL (photoluminescence) measurements has been established. The samples were obtained by solid-phase recrystallization under different pressure conditions. An easy method for achieving good quality surfaces with a very significant reduction of such Y and S PL emissions is proposed.

Continuous-Flow Synthesis of Orange Emitting Sn(II)-Doped CsBr Materials

2021

An ongoing demand toward lead-free all-inorganic cesium metal halide perovskites has presented Sn(II) as an ideal substitute of Pb(II) for applications in optoelectronic devices. The major concern regarding Sn(II) is the instability due to the ambient oxidation to Sn(IV). To expand the scope of traditional perovskite and analogues, herein the synthesis and optical performance of Sn(II)-doped CsBr, a new material formed by interstitial doping of Sn(II) into the CsBr matrix, are reported for the first time. This material is prepared following an antisolvent mediated recrystallization method using a continuous flow reactor, which is beneficial for scaling up the production compared to traditio…

Growth of zircon and titanite during metamorphism in the granitoid-gneiss terrane south of the Barberton greenstone belt, South Africa

2005

AbstractSHRIMP U-Pb zircon and titanite dating have been used to constrain the timing of mid- to lower- crustal metamorphism (∼650—700°C and 8—11 kbar) and syn-kinematic melting in the granitoid gneiss- dominated terrane south of the Barberton greenstone belt, South Africa. This study is concentrated on a clastic metasedimentary unit exposed in one of several greenstone remnants and a late-kinematic trondhjemite intrusive into spatially associated mixed gneisses. Locally, the clastic metasediments show extensive replacement of garnet and plagioclase by epidote and titanite. The titanites yield an upper intercept date of 3229±9 Ma, and provide a minimum age for the peak of metamorphism. Zirc…

Local disequilibrium of plagioclase in high-temperature shear zones of the Ivrea Zone, Italy

1995

Microstructural and chemical analysis of plagioclase in 20 superficially similar amphibolite facies ductile shear zones in metagabbors and amphibolites of the Ivrea Zone in Italy reveals significant differences in An and Ba contents. Plagioclase, which was deformed at P-T conditions lower than those of the wall rocks, occurs in the following four different microstructural situations with different chemical compositions: (i) relatively undeformed porphyroclasts, (ii) dynamically recrystallized grains and subgrains rimming the porphyroclasts, (iii) infill of microcracks cross-cutting the porphyroclasts and (iv) fine-grained recrystallized grains in the matrix of the shear zones. The differenc…

Disequilibrium melt distribution during static recrystallisation

2004

Melt migration and segregation, and the rheology of partially molten rocks in the upper mantle and lower crust, strongly depend on the grain-scale distribution of the melt. Current theory for monomineralic aggregates predicts a perfectly regular melt framework, but high-temperature experiments with rock-forming minerals + melt show considerable deviations from this predicted geometry. Disequilibrium features, such as fully wetted grain boundaries and large melt patches, have been described; these were mainly attributed to surface-energy anisotropy of the minerals. We present static analogue experiments with norcamphor + ethanol that allow continuous in situ observation of the evolving liqui…

Synthesis of optically pure alkynols

1993

Abstract (R,S)-1-alkylprop-2-yn-1-ols have been separated by a 2-step procedure, esterification with N-p-tosyl-(L)-phenylalanine (or valine), recrystallisation of the diastereomeric esters from ethanol/hexane and saponification of the optically pure esters.
