Harm avoidance is a personality trait characterized by excessive worrying and fear of uncertainty, which has repeatedly been related to anxiety disorders. Converging lines of research in rodents and humans point towards an involvement of the nicotinic cholinergic system in the modulation of anxiety. Most notably, the rs1044396 polymorphism in the CHRNA4 gene, which codes for the α4 subunit of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, has been linked to negative emotionality traits including harm avoidance in a recent study. The effects of rapid weight loss (RWL) in combat sports athletes is an area that is not yet fully discovered. Therefore, the goal of this study was to determine the impact of weight loss on HGS (handgrip strength) in Greco-Roman wrestlers.This cross-over study included ten athletes examined for HGS during three time points for each hand. Micrometer-sized oxidation patterns containing varying composition of functional groups including epoxy, ether, hydroxyl, carbonyl, carboxyl, were created in chemical vapor deposition grown graphene through scanning probe lithography and pulsed laser two-photon oxidation. The oxidized graphene films were then reduced by a focused x-ray beam. Reduction and catalytic behaviour of heterobimetallic copper–lanthanide oxides

Abstract The reduction of the heterobimetallic copper–lanthanide oxides 2CuO·CeO2 and 3CuO·Ln2CuO4 (Ln = La, Pr, Nd) was studied by H2-TG/DTA and H2-TPR. All systems exhibit two main reduction steps accompanied by mass losses in the temperature range 20–1000 °C. The first step was attributed to CuO reduction, whereas the second step is due either to copper reduction in the Ln2CuO4 phase with the concomitant formation of Ln2O3 or to the surface reduction of CeO2. The products were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, and BET techniques and are better described as supported copper type materials. They were active for the mesityl oxide (4-methyl-2-penten-2-one) gas phase hydrogenation.

Very small particles (nanoparticles) have been shown to be rapidly internalized into the body. Since the sites of internalization and the location of the detected particles are often far apart, a distribution via the blood stream must have occurred. Co-reductive fabrication of carbon nanodots with high quantum yield for bioimaging of bacteria

A simple and straightforward synthetic approach for carbon nanodots (C-dots) is proposed. The strategy is based on a one-step hydrothermal chemical reduction with thiourea and urea, leading to high quantum yield C-dots. The obtained C-dots are well-dispersed with a uniform size and a graphite-like structure. A synergistic reduction mechanism was investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The findings show that using both thiourea and urea during the one-pot synthesis enhances the luminescence of the generated C-dots. Restoration of digital visual media acquired from repositories of historical photographic and cinematographic material is of key importance for the preservation, study and transmission of the legacy of past cultures to the coming generations. In this paper, a fully automatic approach to the digital restoration of historical stereo photographs is proposed, referred to as Stacked Median Restoration plus (SMR+). The approach exploits the content redundancy in stereo pairs for detecting and fixing scratches, dust, dirt spots and many other defects in the original images, as well as improving contrast and illumination. Properties and significance of apoFNR as a second form of air-inactivated [4Fe-4S]·FNR of Escherichia coli

The active form of the oxygen sensor fumarate nitrate reductase regulator (FNR) of Escherichia coli contains a [4Fe-4S] cluster which is converted to a [2Fe-2S] cluster after reaction with air, resulting in inactivation of FNR. Reaction of reconstituted [4Fe-4S].FNR with air resulted within 5 min in conversion to apoFNR. The rate was comparable to the rate known for [4Fe-4S].FNR/[2Fe-2S].FNR cluster conversion, suggesting that apoFNR is a product of [2Fe-2S].FNR decomposition and a final form of air-inactivated FNR in vitro.
