Collective optical resonances in networks of metallic carbon nanotubes

Abstract We demonstrate that thin films of randomly oriented metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes possess optical resonances with significant dispersion. The resonances are observed in the Kretschmann configuration as minima in reflection spectra close to 400 nm and 700 nm wavelengths. The dispersions are visible only when the material is excited with s -polarized light, and most prominent in layers with thickness near 100 nm. We conclude that magnetic plasmon polaritons arising from intertube interactions are a likely explanation. Closeness of the M 11 and M 22 transition energies to the observed resonances points to a possible coupling with excitons.

Designers of interactive learning environments with a focus on word problem solving usually have to compromise between the amount of resolution paths that a user is allowed to follow and the quality of the feedback provided. We have built an intelligent tutoring system (ITS) that is able to both track the user's actions and provide adequate supervision during the resolution. This is done without imposing any restriction on the resolution paths that are allowed. A reflection approach to the broken ray transform

We reduce the broken ray transform on some Riemannian manifolds (with corners) to the geodesic ray transform on another manifold, which is obtained from the original one by reflection. We give examples of this idea and present injectivity results for the broken ray transform using corresponding earlier results for the geodesic ray transform. Examples of manifolds where the broken ray transform is injective include Euclidean cones and parts of the spheres $S^n$. In addition, we introduce the periodic broken ray transform and use the reflection argument to produce examples of manifolds where it is injective. Prediction of alkaline earth elements in bone remains by near infrared spectroscopy.

An innovative methodological approach has been developed for the prediction of the mineral element composition of bone remains. It is based on the use of Fourier Transform Near Infrared (FT-NIR) diffuse reflectance measurements. The method permits a fast, cheap and green analytical way, to understand post-mortem degradation of bones caused by the environment conditions on different skeletal parts and to select the best preserved bone samples.
