Gully Erosion Susceptibility Mapping Using Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines—Replications and Sample Size Scenarios
2019
Soil erosion is a serious problem affecting numerous countries, especially, gully erosion. In the current research, GIS techniques and MARS (Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines) algorithm were considered to evaluate gully erosion susceptibility mapping among others. The study was conducted in a specific section of the Gorganroud Watershed in Golestan Province (Northern Iran), covering 2142.64 km2 which is intensely influenced by gully erosion. First, Google Earth images, field surveys, and national reports were used to provide a gully-hedcut evaluation map consisting of 307 gully-hedcut points. Eighteen gully erosion conditioning factors including significant geoenvironmental and morph…
A pilot study on the differences in wavefront aberrations between two ethnic groups of young generally myopic subjects
2008
A comparative population-based cross-sectional study design was used to examine the prevalence of wavefront patterns in two different ethnic groups, and the relationship of these patterns with ocular biometrics and gender. The Shin–Nippon SRW5000 open field autorefractor, the Wavefront Analysis Supported Customized Ablation (WASCA) wavefront analyser and the IOLMaster were used to determine wavefront aberrations, mean spherical equivalent (SE) refractive error and axial length (AL). Seventy-four eyes from 74 young healthy subjects (44 British Asians, 30 Caucasians; 36 men, 38 women; mean age 22.51 ± 3.89 years) with mean SE averaging )1.90 ± 2.76 D (range )10.88 to +2.19 D) were examined. R…
Modeling a non-stationary bots’ arrival process at an e-commerce Web site
2017
Abstract The paper concerns the issue of modeling and generating a representative Web workload for Web server performance evaluation through simulation experiments. Web traffic analysis has been done from two decades, usually based on Web server log data. However, while the character of the overall Web traffic has been extensively studied and modeled, relatively few studies have been devoted to the analysis of Web traffic generated by Internet robots (Web bots). Moreover, the overwhelming majority of studies concern the traffic on non e-commerce websites. In this paper we address the problem of modeling a realistic arrival process of bots’ requests on an e-commerce Web server. Based on real…
Multivariate Methods Based Soft Measurement for Wine Quality Evaluation
2014
Published version of an article in the journal: Abstract and Applied Analysis. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2014/740754 Open Access Soft measurement is a new, developing, and promising industry technology and has been widely used in the industry nowadays. This technology plays a significant role especially in the case where some key variables are difficult to be measured by traditional measurement methods. In this paper, the quality of the wine is evaluated given the wine physicochemical indexes according to multivariate methods based soft measurement. The multivariate methods used in this paper include ordinary least squares regression (OLSR), principal c…
New Technologies and Purchase Behaviour. An Analysis of the Determinant Variables in M-Shopping.
2009
Despite of the growing importance of mobile shopping in a lot of countries, there is still a lack of research work in this field. This paper aims to make an approximation of the M-shopper profile and identify the variables influencing purchase behaviour. Findings obtained from a representative sample of 2,343 Spanish Internet users show that the M-shopping decision can be predicted according to consumer age and experience as Internet user and shopper.
Multiple Linear Regression to predict larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti mosquito
2017
Vector-borne diseases are one of the important health problems in most tropical countries. Aedes aegypti is an important vector for transmission of dengue, yellow fever, chikungunya, arthritis, and Zika fever. According to the World Health Organization, it is estimated that Ae. aegypti causes 50 million infections and 25,000 deaths per year. The emerging scenario highlights that the eco-friendly and effective control measures for mosquito vectors is of crucial importance. One of the most effective vector control measures has been the use of larvicidal compounds however; this success was short lived due to development of resistance against them in many mosquito strains, ecological imbalance …
Parental and Familial Factors Influencing Physical Activity Levels in Early Adolescence: A Prospective Study
2020
Parental/familial factors are important determinants of the physical activity level (PAL) in children and adolescents, but studies rarely prospectively evaluate their relationships. This study aimed to evaluate the changes in physical activity levels among adolescents from Bosnia and Herzegovina over a two-year period and to determine parental/familial predictors of PAL in early adolescence. A total of 651 participants (50.3% females) were tested at baseline (beginning of high school education
Source separation on hyperspectral cube applied to dermatology
2010
International audience; This paper proposes a method of quantification of the components underlying the human skin that are supposed to be responsible for the effective reflectance spectrum of the skin over the visible wavelength. The method is based on independent component analysis assuming that the epidermal melanin and the dermal haemoglobin absorbance spectra are independent of each other. The method extracts the source spectra that correspond to the ideal absorbance spectra of melanin and haemoglobin. The noisy melanin spectrum is fixed using a polynomial fit and the quantifications associated with it are reestimated. The results produce feasible quantifications of each source compone…
Naturally constrained reduced form and stuctural parameters estimation
1988
To characterize such a situation, we introduce the concept of a "natural constraint", which is presented and discussed is section 1 of the present paper. Section 2 is concerned with the efficient estimation of the naturally constrained reduced form. From it, we derive efficient estimators of the structural parameters (by indirect GLS) and propose a simple test of the a priori restrictions. In section 3 we discuss estimation by 2SLS. In addition to the resultsobtained by Turkington and Pesaran, we develop a 2SLS-GLS estimator and assess its asymptotic properties. Several full information estimatorsof the 3SLS type are presented and compared in section 4 and some efficiency aspects of the ins…
Performance optimisation of dual-pump NALM fibre laser using machine learning inference
2018
We apply predictive regression to find optimum operating regimes in a recently proposed layout of a flexible Figure-8 laser having two independently pumped segments of active fibre in its bidirectional ring.
