Sea urchin HSF activity in vitro and in transgenic embryos.
1997
Evidence is provided for the presence at the physiological temperature of 20 degrees C of a heat shock transcriptor factor, HSF, in the nuclei of P.lividus embryos. This HSF is able to specifically bind in vitro the heat shock element, HSE, of the promoter of the hsp70 gene i.v., as suggested by DNA-protein binding reactions and DNAse I protection assays. Upon heat-shock, at the temperature of 31 degrees C, its ability to bind the HSE units becomes much higher. The HSF activated by heat-shock drives in vivo the transcription of the beta-galactosidase reporter gene in transgenic sea urchin gastrulae. An ATF-like transcription factor, widely described in other organisms but not at all in sea …
In silico characterization of the neural alpha tubulin gene promoter of the sea urchin embryo Paracentrotus lividus by phylogenetic footprinting
2011
During Paracentrotus lividus sea urchin embryo development one alpha and one beta tubulin genes are expressed specifically in the neural cells and they are early end output of the gene regulatory network that specifies the neural commitment. In this paper we have used a comparative genomics approach to identify con- served regulatory elements in the P. lividus neural alpha tubulin gene. To this purpose, we have first isolated a genomic clone containing the entire gene plus 4.5 Kb of 5 0 upstream sequences. Then, we have shown by gene transfer experiments that its non-coding region drives the spatio- temporal gene expression corresponding substantially to that of the endogenous gene. In addi…
Atypical posterior circulation strokes: a case-based review of rare anatomical variations involved
2021
The circle of Willis is a very important vascular mechanism of protecting against cerebral ischemia, especially when circulation within the main arteries irrigating the brain is somehow impeded. As result of congenital malformation arising early in embryonic development, the fetal-type posterior circle of Willis remains as such during the rest of one's life. Consequently, the posterior cerebral artery (PCA) becomes a branch of the internal carotid artery (ICA), rather than of the basilar artery (BA). Furthermore, the rest of collateral circulation, between the anterior and the posterior regions of the brain, is also negatively affected (e.g., leptomeningeal vessels). The anatomical variant …
Chameleonic appearance of caseous calcification of the mitral valve – still a problem for its appropriate management
2021
According to the research literature, the caseous calcification of the mitral annulus (CCMA) is a rare variant of the mitral annulus calcification (MAC) entity, described mostly in elderly women. The aim of this study was to present the case of a 53-year-old female patient with caseous calcification of the mitral valve annulus and posterior cusp, which was diagnosed as papillary fibroelastoma. An echo-dense and quasi-homogeneous tumoral mass, measuring 1.6/1.4 cm, at the level of the posterior mitral ring was detected by echocardiographic examination, as well as by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Histopathological analysis revealed fibrous connective tissue with myxoid areas, hyal…
The Italian adaptation and validation of the Adult Sibling Relationship Questionnaire (ASRQ) in Italian emerging adults
2013
The aims of the present study were to provide a contribution to the validation of the Adult Sibling Relationship Questionnaire (ASRQ) (Stocker, Lanthier, & Furman, 1997) with a population of Italian emerging adults. The ASRQ measures individuals’ current perceptions of their own behaviour and feelings toward their sibling, as well as their perceptions of their sibling’s behaviour and feelings toward him or her by assessing fourteen fundamental dimensions (Intimacy; Affection; Emotional Support; Instrumental Support; Knowledge; Similarity; Admiration; Acceptance; Dominance; Competition; Antagonism; Quarrelling; Maternal Rivalry; and Paternal Rivalry), combined in order to form three macro-di…
Psychometric properties of the emotional awareness questionnaire in a Spanish child population
2016
Spanish Validation of the Leader Empowering Behavior Questionnaire (LEBQ)
2019
The concept of empowering leadership has attracted widespread academic and practical interest and different questionnaires have been developed to measure it. However, there are no instruments to measure empowering leadership in the Spanish language. This article presents the translation, adaptation, and validation of a scale to measure this construct. In addition, it analyzes the relationship between managers’ empowering leadership and employees’ job satisfaction. In turn, the study analyzes whether employees who participate in a greater number of continuous improvement programs have supervisors who favor more empowering behaviors. A total of 739 participants with various occupations from d…
Do women directors behave more ethically than men directors of the audit committees with respect to the quality of the accounting information?
2018
In this analysis, we aim at investigating how audit committees (ACs) gender diversity impacts on the quality of financial information, calculated with the opinion that external auditors give firms in the audit report. We hypothesize that there is a negative relation between gender diversity on ACs and the likelihood of receiving a qualification with errors, non-compliance and the omission of information, and a positive association between gender diversity on ACs and the probability of disclosing qualifications with uncertainties. The results show a negative association between the proportion of women directors on ACs, the proportion of institutional women directors on ACs and ACs chaired by…
The use of spiral CT in the detection and management of a permanent maxillary first molar with single root and single canal : a rare occurrence
2017
A sound knowledge of the normal tooth morphology and its numerous variations is essential to the success of endodontic therapy. While extra canals and lateral canals are routinely encountered and documented, there also exists the rare possibility of a fewer number of canals than normal. Early detection of such an occurrence is critical to the prevention of iatrogenic errors during endodontic treatment. The advent of spiral CT as a diagnostic tool serves as a much needed confirmation to understand the complex three dimensional anatomy of teeth. The aim of this case report is to highlight one such case reporting unusual morphology of the permanent maxillary first molar displaying single canal…
Non-surgical endodontics in retreatment of periapical lesions: two representative case reports
2012
This article reports non-surgical endodontic retreatment of two patients with persistent or recurrent periapical lesions, who had previously undergone surgical and non-surgical endodontic therapy respectively. It further discusses and reviews the relevance of classification of periapical lesions, the explanation behind healing of periapical lesions by endodontic therapy alone, causes of persistence of periapical lesions, choice of treatment modalities (whether surgical or non – surgical) and materials such as intracanal medicaments and irrigants for optimal healing. Key words:Non-surgical, retreatment, periapical, calcium hydroxide, chlorhexidine irrigation.
