Intergenerational fitness effects on offspring due to the early life of the parent are well studied from the standpoint of the maternal environment, but intergenerational effects owing to the paternal early life environment are often overlooked. Nonetheless, recent laboratory studies in mammals and ecologically relevant studies in invertebrates predict that paternal effects can have a major impact on the offspring's phenotype. These non‐genetic, environment‐dependent paternal effects provide a mechanism for fathers to transmit environmental information to their offspring, and could allow rapid adaptation. Gutter som skolens tapere er blitt en dominerende fortelling gjennom mange år og gjentas nok en gang gjennom Stoltenbergutvalgets rapport om kjønnsforskjellene i skolen. Fortellingen bygger på en dikotomisk kjønnsforståelse og ikke en forståelse av at kjønn er mangfoldig og konstrueres kontinuerlig i kulturelle, sosiale og språklige sammenhenger. Ved å betrakte gutter som skolens tapere som et dominerende narrativ belyser jeg premissene for en slik fortelling, konsekvensene den har og hvilke fortellinger som usynliggjøres eller stilles i skyggen – fortellinger om en skole som ikke evner å utjevne de sosiale ulikhetene den har et mål om å utjevne.

Abstract One of the advantages of a source method over observer method in blur perception measurements is better control of a stimulus blur level, which is achieved with computerised image processing unlike the observer method that requires optical defocusing of the observer. Computing a hierarchical clustering of objects from a pairwise distance matrix is an important algorithmic kernel in computational science. Since the storage of this matrix requires quadratic space with respect to the number of objects, the design of memory-efficient approaches is of high importance to this research area. In this paper, we address this problem by presenting a memory-efficient online hierarchical clustering algorithm called SparseHC. A critical analysis of a thermal inertia approach to map surface soil water content on bare and sparsely vegetated soils by means of remotely sensed data is reported. The study area is an experimental field located in Barrax, Spain. In situ data were acquired within the Barrax 2011 research project. An advanced hyperspectral scanner airborne imager provides images in the visible/near-infrared and thermal infrared bands. Conservation resource allocation involves a complex set of considerations including species, habitats, connectivity, local to global biodiversity objectives, alternative protection and restoration actions, while requiring cost-efficiency and effective implementation. We present a national scale spatial conservation prioritization analysis for complementing the network of protected mires in Finland.
