Population structure and mitochondrial DNA gene flow in Old World populations of Drosophila subobscura
1992
An extensive survey of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) restriction polymorphism in 156 isofemale lines from 29 different geographic populations of Drosophila subobscura distributed throughout the Old World was carried out. Ten restriction enzymes were used, five of which revealed restriction site polymorphism. Of the 31 restriction sites detected, 13 were found to be polymorphic. Comparisons with the mtDNA map of Drosophila yakuba indicate that the variable sites are mainly concentrated in protein genes, especially those corresponding to the NADH complex. A total of 13 different haplotypes were observed, two of which (haplotypes I and II) are quite frequent and widely distributed throughout the p…
Characterization of Gibberella fujikuroi complex isolates by fumonisin B-1 and B-2 analysis and by RAPD and restriction analysis of PCR-amplified int…
2000
Summary Twenty nine isolates of Fusarium spp. (twenty four of them belonging to the Gibberella fujikuroi complex) isolated from banana and corn from different geographical regions were analyzed for their ability to produce fumonisins B 1 and B 2 and for genetic relatedness using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and restriction analysis of PCR amplification products of the 5.8s ribosomal DNA-intervening internal transcribed spacer regions (ITS I-5.8S-ITS II). For RAPD analysis, six of twenty oligonucleotide primers were selected after testing with five Fusarium spp. isolates and used to characterize 24 additional isolates. DNA fragments from the 29 isolates of Fusarium spp., which wer…
Human cytomegalovirus glycoprotein B genotypes in immunocompetent, immunocompromised, and congenitally infected Italian populations
2003
Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) strains, obtained from immunocompetent and immunocompromised Italian hosts, were typed with glycoprotein B (gB) gene restriction analysis. A predominant circulation of HCMV strains with gB type 2 and 3 was detected in both the immunocompetent host with a primary HCMV infection and the immunocompromised host with or without HCMV disease. No association between gB types and subjects with different risks of developing HCMV disease was found. All four gB genotypes were capable of causing congenital infection in Italian babies, with gB type 1 accounting for 50% of the strains examined in symptomatic infants and a remarkable incidence of gB type 4 viruses.
Identification of transcripts of the T cell antigen receptor beta chain gene and major histocompatibility complex class II genes in antigen-presentin…
1988
The cloned murine cell line BK-BI-2.6.C6 has previously been shown to exhibit T cell characteristics, to synthesize and express MHC class II molecules, and to present protein antigens to antigen-dependent T cell clones. As a more definitive proof of the T-cell nature of these cells, transcripts of the rearranged T cell antigen receptor (TcR) beta gene were assessed by Northern blot analysis. BK-BI-2.6.C6 cells constitutively transcribe mRNA for the light chain of TcR and express the disulphide-linked alpha, beta TcR heterodimer at the cell surface. In addition mRNA for the polymorphic MHC class II subunits A alpha and A beta as well as for the invariant gamma chain were detected. BK-BI-2.6.…
Yeast ecology of vineyards within Marsala wine area (western Sicily) in two consecutive vintages and selection of autochthonous Saccharomyces cerevis…
2012
In this work, the yeast ecology associated with the spontaneous fermentation of Grillo cultivar grapes from 10 vineyards was analyzed from grape harvest till complete consumption of must sugars. The microbiological investigation started with the plate count onto two culture media to distinguish total yeasts (TY) and presumptive Saccharomyces (PS). Yeasts were randomly isolated and identified by a combined genotypic approach consisting of restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of 5.8S rRNA gene and 26S rRNA and sequencing of D1/D2 domain of the 26S rRNA gene, which resulted in the recognition of 14 species belonging to 10 genera. The distribution of the yeasts within the vineyards s…
Macrophages Escape Inhibition of Major Histocompatibility Complex Class I-Dependent Antigen Presentation by Cytomegalovirus
2000
ABSTRACTThe mouse cytomegalovirus (MCMV)m152- andm06-encoded glycoproteins gp40 and gp48, respectively, independently downregulate major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I surface expression during the course of productive MCMV infection in fibroblasts. As a result, presentation of an immediate-early protein pp89-derived nonapeptide toH-2Ld-restricted CD8+cytotoxic T cells is completely prevented in fibroblasts. Here we demonstrate that MCMV-infected primary bone marrow macrophages and the macrophage cell line J774 constitutively present pp89 peptides during permissive MCMV infection to cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL). In contrast to fibroblasts, expression of them152andm06genes in macr…
Typing of anastomosis groups of Rhizoctonia solani by restriction analysis of ribosomal DNA.
2003
A method based on restriction analysis of polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-amplified ribosomal DNA was developed for the rapid characterization of large populations of Rhizoctonia solani at the anastomosis group (AG) level. The restriction maps of the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) sequences were compared for 219 isolates of R. solani belonging to AG-1 to AG-12 and AG-BI, representing diverse geographic and host range origins. Four discriminant restriction enzymes (MseI, AvaII, HincII, and MunI) resolved 40 restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) types among the 219 ITS sequences of R. solani. Each RFLP type could be assigned to a single AG except for two RFLP types, which were c…
C4 DNA RFLP reference typing report.
1990
One hundred and three individual DNA samples (including 23 families) were studied at the gene level during the reference typing of the fourth component of human complement at the VIth Complement Genetics Workshop in Mainz (1989). All samples were analyzed with the restriction enzyme Taq I and with two DNA probes recognizing the 5' ends of both C4 genes and the two adjacent 21-hydroxylase genes. This RFLP is informative for the number of C4 genes as well as for their respective gene size. We found a high degree of variation regarding the number of C4 genes, i.e. haplotypes with 1-3 structural C4 genes of 16 or 22 kb size. By correlating these haplotypes to the complotypes obtained by protein…

Alteraciones de la Conducta Alimentaria en Pacientes con Trastorno por Abuso de Sustancias

Psychiatric eating disorders (ED) and substance use disorder (SUD) are frequent comorbidities and negatively affect evaluation, treatment, and prognosis of both pathologies. The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of eating disorders amongst patients seeking treatment for SUD, mainly alcohol, cocaine, and cannabis, and the modulating role of impulsivity and the presence of the eating restriction disorder. We employed the following evaluation instruments: the Barratt impulsivity scale, the eating disorder inventory (EDI), and the Valencia Addiction to Eating Restriction Questionnaire (CVAR). The results showed that patients with a SUD had higher levels of impulsivity and…
