Psychometric Properties of Spanish Version Student Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES–S–9) in High-school Students

2019

AbstractThe Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) is a self-report instrument widely used, both in the original and its abbreviated version of nine items, to assess the work -UWES, UWES–9– and academic engagement -UWES-S, UWES–S–9–. The present study examines factor structure of the UWES–S–9 using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), its convergent validity and invariance across sex and age groups in a sample of 626 Spanish high school students. The results support an unidimensional conceptualization of engagement (S-Bχ2/df = 5.29; CFI = .96; NNFI = .94; RMSEA = .083; IFI = .96; AIC = 82.21; BIC = 267.38), revealed an essentially invariant structure of the UWES–S–9 across the sex, ΔS-Bχ2(Δ6) …

The Appraisal of Self-Care Agency Scale - Revised (ASA-R): Adaptation and Validation in a Sample of Spanish Older Adults.

2017

AbstractSelf-care agency is an important determinant of healthy aging. The Appraisal of Self-care Agency Scale (ASA-R) (Sousa et al., 2010) is one of the main instrument to assess self-care capacity. The objectives of the study were: 1) to adapt and validate ASA-R scale for use in Spanish population; 2) to examine the dimensionality, validity and reliability; 3) and to establish the convergent validity of ASA-R using a self-reported health measure. The ASA-R Scale and the 12-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-12) were administered to 488 Spanish seniors aged 65 and over. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to analyze the dimensionality, validity and reliability. Convergent validity w…

The Use of a Screening Device to Assess Psychopathy in Young Offenders

2012

The aim of this research was to determine to what extent a psychopath screening device (the APSD) is useful in forensic assessments to predict general and violent offending. For this purpose, a cross-sectional study was done and 238 young people serving a sentence were assessed. The gold standard instrument used to measure psychopathy was the Psychopathy Checklist: Youth Version (PCL:YV; Forth, Kosson & Hare, 2003). The results indicate that the association found between the screening device scores and several indicators of risk is low if compared with those obtained with the PCL:YV, suggesting that it is less useful as a tool in order to predict offending or violent offences. However, …

Determination of benzophenone-3 and its main metabolites in human serum by dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction followed by liquid chromatography…

2013

A new analytical method for the determination of benzophenone-3 (2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone), and its main metabolites (2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone and 2,2'-dihydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone) in human serum is presented. The method is based on dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) as preconcentration and clean-up technique, followed by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Acidic hydrolysis and protein precipitation with HCl 6 M (1:1) (100 °C, 1 h) were carried out before extraction. The variables involved in the DLLME process were studied. Under the optimized conditions, 70 µL of acetone (disperser solvent) and 30 µL of chloroform (extraction solvent) were …

Hepatocytes cultured in alginate microspheres: an optimized technique to study enzyme induction.

2004

An important application of hepatocyte cultures is identification of drugs acting as inducers of biotransformation enzymes that alter metabolic clearance of other therapeutic agents. In the present study we optimized an in vitro system with hepatocytes cultured in alginate microspheres that allow studies of enzyme induction with excellent sensitivity. Induction factors obtained with standard inducers, such as 3-methylcholanthrene or phenobarbital, were higher compared to those with conventional hepatocyte co-cultures on collagen coated dishes. This is illustrated by activities of 7-ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) after incubation with 5 microM 3-methylcholanthrene (3-MC), a standard ind…

A new alternative in vitro method for quantification of Toxoplasma gondii infectivity.

2011

An in vitro method to determine the infectious potency of an unknown suspension of the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii based on kinetics of host cells lysis was developed. Mic1-3KO a mutant strain of T. gondii RH tachyzoites was inoculated in 25-cm² flasks containing a 90% confluent monolayer of human foreskin fibroblasts. Lysis kinetics was monitored for infection ratios ranging from 1∶10⁶ to 1∶10; we defined 10⁶ tachyzoites/ml⁻¹ as the threshold value for parasite egress. Results allowed us to build a calibration curve relating the initial infection ratios to the time needed to reach 10⁶ tachyzoites/ml⁻¹. Finally, we validated the method using a known mixture of dead and live parasit…

Liver methylene fraction by dual- and triple-echo gradient-echo imaging at 3.0T: Correlation with proton MR spectroscopy and estimation of robustness…

2011

Purpose To assess the systematic errors in liver methylene fraction (LMF) resulting from fat–fat interference effects with dual- and triple-echo gradient-recalled-echo Dual/Triple GRE) sequences and to test the robustness of these sequences after iron overloading. Materials and Methods Forty type-2 diabetic patients underwent LMF measurement by 3.0T 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy (corrected for T1 and T2 decays) as the reference standard and liver fat fraction (%Fat) measurement by four Dual/Triple GRE sequences with 20° and 60° flip angle (α), corrected for T1 recovery. The same four sequences were repeated in eight patients after ferumoxide injection. Corrections for systematic errors…
