2023
The essay is part of a book that aims to rediscover and enhance Pierre Bourdieu's contribution to the legal philosophy. Clelia Bartoli's paper takes up the French sociologist's theory of the State outlined during courses held at the College de France in 1989/1990 and 1990/1992. Bourdieu eschewed an intellectual fashion of his time that pushed historians, political scientists, lawyers and sociologists to examine the causes and reasons, evolutions and epilogues of revolutions, at the expense, however, of what is happening on the background: the dull, muffled and repetitive order of things. Bourdieu believed that permanence more than change, what is obvious more than what is eccentric, the ord…
L’estetica del camuffamento animale. Riflessioni sul mimetismo biologico
2016
This article wants to investigate the logic of mimicry and their communicative function in animal life adopting an aesthetical perspective. The relationship between appearance and not-appearance, between the act of making itself visible and the act of disguising itself, is investigated starting from the morphological thought of the Swiss biologist Adolf Portmann, in a continuous dialogue with great thinkers of past and actual time – Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Hannah Arendt and Roger Caillois – and with the artistic illustrations of the American painter Abbott Thayer, concerned with the laws of color camouflage. This productive relationship among biology, aesthetics and artistic practice allows…
2019
The paper proposes a perspective of clinical psychology work in palliative care that refers to philosophical thought and anthropological research, to place the work of intersubjective mentalization to conceive dying and sustain the experience of dying patients.
Introduzione. L'acrobatica del morire
2019
The contribution exposes the research path of the group "Acrobatics of dying", highlighting the political, professional and intersubjective values connected with thinking about death in contemporary society.
Quando la bellezza cura il dolore. Vivere il morire nella società contemporanea
2019
The book presents the work of the research group "The acrobatics of dying" on the theme of death in contemporary culture, starting from the clinical practice of palliative care. It contains the texts of palliativist doctors, philosophers, psychologists, psychotherapists, anthropologists, theologians, art historians and experts in visual culture, who were presented in a series of seminars held in the context of the personal exhibition of photojournalist Gianni Cipriano in Palermo .
Strong evaluation without sources : on Charles Taylor's philosophical anthropology and cultural moral realism
2003
Kanadalaisen filosofin Charles Taylorin teorioihin perustuvassa väitöskirjassaan Arto Laitinen esittää, että inhimillinen toiminta, identiteetti ja persoonuus perustuvat ns. 'vahvoille arvostuksille'. Filosofisesti vaati…
When the nose must remain responsive: glutathione conjugation of the mammary pheromone in the newborn rabbit
2014
In insects, xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes were demonstrated to regulate pheromones inactivation, clearing them from the olfactory periphery and keeping receptors ready for stimulation renewal. Here, we investigate whether similar processes could occur in mammals, focusing on the pheromonal communication between female rabbits and their newborns. Lactating rabbits emit in their milk a volatile aldehyde, 2-methylbut-2-enal, that elicits searching-grasping in neonates; called the mammary pheromone (MP), it is critical for pups which are constrained to find nipples within the 5 min of daily nursing. For newborns, it is thus essential to remain sensitive to this odorant during the whole nursin…
How odorant metabolizing enzymes shape odor perception?
2020
International audience; Lingering in the background of every odorant-receptor interaction is an odor metabolizing enzyme. Over the last several years, a fascinating set of studies in rodents, rabbits, insects and humans has demonstrated that these enzymes participate in the active biotransformation of odorous molecules within the perireceptor environment. These mechanisms may exert two unique effects: first, to maintain odor sensitivity by reducing receptor saturation, and second, to transform the local milieu of the odor components giving rise to unique odor percepts. This symposium will focus on the impact of odorant metabolizing enzymes (OMEs) on functional and behavioral aspects of olfa…
