Analysis of the dopant segregation effects at the floating zone growth of large silicon crystals

1997

Abstract A computer simulation is carried out to study the dopant concentration fields in the molten zone and in the growing crystal for the floating zone (FZ) growth of large (> 100mm) Si crystals with the needle-eye technique and with feed/crystal rotation. The mathematical model developed in the previous work is used to calculate the shape of the molten zone and the velocity field in the melt. The influence of melt convection on the dopant concentration field is considered. The significance of the rotation scheme of the feed rod and crystal on the dopant distribution is investigated. The calculated dopant concentration directly at the growth interface is used to determine the normalized …

Weed seedbank size and composition in a long-term tillage and crop sequence experiment

2015

Summary Knowledge of the effects of agricultural practices on weed seedbank dynamics is essential for predicting future problems in weed management. This article reports data relative to weed seedbank structure after 18 years of continuous application of conventional tillage (CT, based on mouldboard ploughing) or no tillage (NT) within three crop sequences (continuous wheat, WW; wheat–faba bean, WF; and wheat–berseem clover, WB). Tillage system did not affect the size of the total weed seedbank, but altered both its composition and the distribution of seeds within the soil profile. In particular, the adoption of CT favoured some species (mainly Polygonum aviculare), whereas the continuous u…

Reliable Propagation of Magnetic Domain Walls in Cross Structures for Advanced Multiturn Sensors

2017

[EN] We develop and analyze an advanced concept for a domain-wall-based sensing of rotations. Moving domain walls in n closed loops with n - 1 intersecting convolutions by rotating fields, we are able to sense n rotations. By combining loops with coprime numbers of rotations, we create a sensor system allowing for the total counting of millions of turns of a rotating applied magnetic field. We analyze the operation of the sensor and identify the intersecting cross structures as the critical component for reliable operation. Specifically, depending on the orientation of the applied field angle with the magnetization in the branches of the cross, a domain wall is found to propagate in an unwa…

Non-circular rotating beams and CMB experiments

2002

This paper is concerned with small angular scale experiments for the observation of cosmic microwave background anisotropies. In the absence of beam, the effects of partial coverage and pixelisation are disentangled and analyzed (using simulations). Then, appropriate maps involving the CMB signal plus the synchrotron and dust emissions from the Milky Way are simulated, and an asymmetric beam --which turns following different strategies-- is used to smooth the simulated maps. An associated circular beam is defined to estimate the deviations in the angular power spectrum produced by beam asymmetry without rotation and, afterwards, the deviations due to beam rotation are calculated. For a cert…

Transition from self tilt to object tilt during maintained lateral tilt in parabolic flight.

1991

Abstract 19 young healthy subjects were subjected to parabolic rollercoaster flight. A horizontal luminous line was seen by the subjects in a headfixed goggle device. During the hypergravic phases of parabolic flight the luminous line seemed to rotate into and during the hypogravic phase against the direction of static head tilt. Ocular counter rotation and activity of the neck position receptors cannot explain these subjective rotations. We conclude that information from the otolith system, converging with visual information within the brain, dislocated the headfixed visual target line. While the retinal image of the luminous line remains unchanged, loading and unloading the otoliths in pa…

Theoretical absorption spectrum of the Ar–CO van der Waals complex

2003

The three-dimensional intermolecular electric dipole moment surface of Ar–CO is calculated at the coupled cluster singles and doubles level of theory with the aug-cc-pVTZ basis set extended with a 3s3p2d1f1g set of midbond functions. Using the rovibrational energies and wave functions of our recent study [J. Chem. Phys. 117, 6562 (2002)], temperature-dependent spectral intensities are evaluated and compared to available experimental data. Based on the theoretical spectrum, alternative assignments of the experimentally observed lines in the fundamental band of CO around 2160 and 2166 cm−1 are suggested. Thomas.Bondo@uv.es

17O NMR and molecular mechanical studies of arylmethylenemalonaldehydes

1990

The 17O NMR spectra of six different arylmethylenemalonaldehydes were measured for various solvents and temperatures. The 17O NMR chemical shifts and line widths of the carbonyl oxygens of the malonaldehyde fragment show a clear variation in the series of monoaryl compounds studied. The differences between the 17O NMR chemical shifts of the formyl oxygens correlate well with two conformationally dependent 1H–1H and 1H–13C coupling constants for the same compounds. Molecular mechanical calculations were also performed in order to relate the present data with the conformational preferences of the malonaldehyde fragment of the arylmethylenemalonaldehydes.

Computational investigation and experimental considerations for the classical implementation of a full adder on SO2 by optical pump-probe schemes

2008

International audience; Following the scheme recently proposed by Remacle and Levine Phys. Rev. A 73, 033820 2006 , we investigate the concrete implementation of a classical full adder on two electronic states X˜ 1A1 and C ˜ 1B2 of the SO2 molecule by optical pump-probe laser pulses using intuitive and counterintuitive stimulated Raman adiabatic passage excitation schemes. The resources needed for providing the inputs and reading out are discussed, as well as the conditions for achieving robustness in both the intuitive and counterintuitive pump-dump sequences. The fidelity of the scheme is analyzed with respect to experimental noise and two kinds of perturbations: The coupling to the neigh…

Direct seeding mulch-based cropping increases both the activity and the abundance of denitrifier communities in a tropical soil

2009

International audience; This study evaluated the impact of direct seeding mulch-based cropping (DMC), as an alternative to conventional tilling (CT), on a functional community involved in N cycling and emission of greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N2O). The study was carried out for annual soybean/rice crop rotation in the Highlands of Madagascar. The differences between the two soil management strategies (direct seeding with mulched crop residues versus tillage without incorporation of crop residues) were studied along a fertilization gradient (no fertilizer, organic fertilizer, organic plus mineral fertilizers). The activity and size of the denitrifier community were determined by denitrifica…
