Up to now, the ability of ThB to interfere with lipid metabolism was studied in mice fed a routinely laboratory chow enriched or not with the synthetic agonist Wy14,643, a pharmacological activator of the nuclear hormone receptor PPARα. Morphodynamics of river bed variation with variable bedload step length

Abstract. Here we consider the 1-D morphodynamics of an erodible bed subject to bedload transport. Fluvial bed elevation variation is typically modeled by the Exner equation, which, in its classical form, expresses mass conservation in terms of the divergence of the bedload sediment flux. An entrainment form of the Exner equation can be written as an alternative description of the same bedload processes, by introducing the notions of an entrainment rate into bedload and of a particle step length, and assuming a certain probability distribution for the step length. A progressive increase in salinity and marine influence, related to local subsidence characterize the evolution of the lagoon of Cabanes Torreblanca. Relative sea level rise, caused saltwater intrusion and landward migration of the barrier. This barrier is recessive (60-20 m in the last 50 years) and its current processes show a sedimentary deficit that can lead to rapid and irreversible changes. The information shown by this research can help to achieve a sustainable management.
Catalytic activity of humic substances in condensation reactions

Abstract Humic substances (HS) have considerable impact on the fate of organic xenobiotics in natural environments. This paper reports on the catalytic activity of HS in condensation reactions of carbonyl compounds with active methylene compounds, using Knoevenagel and Claisen-Schmidt reactions as examples. Of the HS, the aquatic fulvic acids are the most active, but the velocity of condensation reactions depends also on the temperature, concentration and form of HS (free or salt) used, and the solvent.
Revisiting the Salt Lake City Olympic scandal: Would the outcome be different today?

Many international sport organizations face bribery scandals resulting from its event bidding process. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) faced this type of scandal with the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Two members of the Salt Lake City Organizing Committee (SLOC) faced 15 criminal charges from providing more than US$1.2 million in cash and gifts to entice IOC members to support its bid. Ultimately both SLOC members were acquitted of all charges. Can a new interpretation of the United States’ anti-bribery law, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), be effective in preventing similar sport scandals? peerReviewed
