Partial purification and characterization of an NAD-dependent 3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase from Clostridium innocuum

In nine strains of Clostridium innocuum, 3 beta-hydroxysteroid-dehydrogenating activities were detected. 3 beta, 7 alpha, 12 alpha-Trihydroxy- and 3 beta-hydroxy-12-keto-5 beta-cholanoic acids were identified as reduction products of the respective 3-keto bile acids by gas-liquid chromatography and gas-liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. One strain was shown to contain a NAD-dependent 3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase. Enzyme production was constitutive in the absence of added bile acids. Two recent publications suggest that dietary salt may polarize TH17 cells and therefore increase the risk of developing autoimmune disease. Where low salt diets can readily be tested for their therapeutic effects in autoimmune disease, more work is needed to connect dietary salts with the development of immunopathology.

A series of 11 low melting ionic liquids based on meso-substituted A3B -porphyrins and A2B2-porphyrins containing one or two pyridyl substituents have been synthesized in high yields. Three of them are liquids at room temperature. All these porphyrinic salts were characterized by1H NMR,19F NMR, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, elemental analysis and UV-visible spectroscopy. The thermal properties and conductivity values of these salt derivatives have been also measured. A specific conductivity value of up to 4 mS.cm-1could be obtained for a compound having the counter-anion B(C6F5)4-.

Abstract The DNA-binding of two salphen-like metal complexes of nickel(II) (1) and zinc(II) (2) was investigated in different ionic strength solutions by absorption spectroscopy. The data analysis allowed us to obtain the values of their extrapolated DNA-binding constant in physiological conditions, with DNA-binding strength in the order Ni > Zn, and to give relative weight to the electrostatic and non-electrostatic contributions to their DNA-interaction.
