Mechanical Characterization of Polysaccharide/polyaminoacid Hydrogels as Potential Scaffolds for Tissue Regeneration

The mechanical properties of hydrogel scaffolds based on hyaluronic acid (HA) that were chemically crosslinked with α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)(2-aminoethylcarbamate)-D,L-aspartamide (PHEA-EDA) were investigated. Variation of these properties as a function of three different PHEA-EDA amounts used to crosslink HA has been related to the reaction efficiency evaluated using a colorimetric assay. Moreover, the amount of unreacted amino groups that was still present in the hydrogels was related to the attachment behavior of human dermal fibroblasts to the hydrogel surface. Preparation and characterization of new hydrogels based on hyaluronic acid and α,β-polyaspartylhydrazide

Abstract Hyaluronic acid (HA) has been crosslinked with α,β-polyaspartylhydrazide (PAHy). The crosslinking reaction has been performed in acidic medium in the presence of various amounts of N-ethyl-N′-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC). All obtained samples have been characterized by FT-IR analysis and swelling measurements in double distilled water that have confirmed the occurrence of a chemical linkage between two polymers and the affinity towards aqueous medium of HA–PAHy networks, respectively. Tuning of biodegradation rate of PLLA scaffolds via blending with PLA

Blends of Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) with Poly-Lactic Acid (PLA) in different proportions (95/5, 90/10, 80/20, 70/30 and 60/40) were utilized in order to realize biodegradable and biocompatible scaffolds for soft tissue engineering applications. The scaffolds were produced via thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) starting from ternary systems where dioxane was the solvent and water the non-solvent. Abstract In this paper we report on the synthesis of three different gelatine based scaffold materials for the reconstruction of articular cartilage defects. The first scaffold design is based on an unmodified, oriented gelatine network, while the second design further comprises an attached inorganic hydroxyapatite layer and the third design includes poly(l-lactide) microspheres as a model material for future drug-release applications. Due to their high density of functional groups and their availability in a variety of diastereomeric forms, monosaccharides are considered attractive scaffolds for combinatorial chemistry that allow the attachment and defined spatial alignment of up to five different pharmacophoric groups. For their application in combinatorial syntheses on solid phase, a set of selectively removable hydroxy protecting groups in combination with a cleavable anchor is required. Herein, we report on the construction and use of a versatile multivalent glucose building block for parallel synthesis on the solid phase.

Abstract This chapter compares music listening with the infant’s experience of care. Several scholars have argued that music can be used for scaffolding one’s self-experience. Developmental psychologists, in turn, maintain a wide consensus over the claim that, in early interaction, the attuned caregiver supports and modifies the infant’s self-experience in various ways. The present thesis focuses on patterns of educational dialogue, their quality with respect to forms of teacher scaffolding and shared knowledge building, and the association between the quality of educational dialogue and students’ academic performance.
