Cis-diaminedichloro platinum ototoxicity. An experimental study.

1985

Four groups of guinea pigs received different doses of cis-platinum. SEM and TEM showed a direct relation between the dose and the damage. The first row of OHC is the first one to be damaged. The IHC are more resistant than the OHC. The pattern of destruction is similar to the one produced by the aminoglucoside antibiotics.

Scanning Tunneling Spectroscope Use in Electrocatalysis Testing

In particular, it should be feasible to explore, manipulate, and ultimately design magnonic excitations in two-dimensional van der Waals magnets in a controllable way. Here we demonstrate the emergence of moiré magnon excitations, stemming from the interplay of spin-excitations in monolayer CrBr3 and the moiré pattern arising from the lattice mismatch with the underlying substrate. Ultrastructural causes of rupture of hand tendons in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. A transmission and scanning electron microscopic study.

To identify the cause of rupture of hand tendons in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, we studied the underlying ultrastructural changes of the collagenous fibril systems. Samples of the flexor digitorum superficialis (n = 12) and the extensor digitorum communis (n = 20) were taken during tenosynovectomy. Tendons dissected at necropsy (n = 30) served as controls. Specimens were analysed by transmission and scanning electron microscopy. Interfibrillar dysplastic fibrils, "Luse bodies", and intracellular collagen were found in rheumatoid tissues. Programmable surface-architectures derived from hybrid polyoxometalate-based clusters

The exploration of the self-organization of a range of the polyoxometalate-based molecular structures reveals a diverse range of surface patterns and morphologies on solid substrates of technological interest, including methylated and hydroxylated silicon surfaces (namely, SiCH3 and SiOH). By exploiting the interplay between the intrinsic molecular properties and the surface chemistry as well as dynamic spatiotemporal phenomena (e.g., dewetting), we show that these systems can yield 0D, 2D, and 3D architectures via solution deposition at the solid surface, including nanodots, discs, lamellas, porous networks, and layer-by-layer assemblies. Abstract The adverse nature of biomass requires specific pretreatment processes to better utilize it in bioenergy applications, and torrefaction is one of the most recognized thermal pretreatment methods. In this regard, we studied the effect of torrefaction pretreatment on kinetics, reaction mechanism and heat flow during the pyrolysis of biomass by making a comparative analysis between the pyrolysis of dried and torrefied Eucalyptus wood. Carbon Dioxide Activation and Reaction Induced by Electron Transfer at an Oxide-Metal Interface

A model system has been created to shuttle electrons through a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) structure to induce the formation of a CO2 anion radical from adsorbed gas-phase carbon dioxide that subsequently reacts to form an oxalate species. The process is completely reversible, and thus allows the elementary steps involved to be studied at the atomic level. The oxalate species at the MIM interface have been identified locally by scanning tunneling microscopy, chemically by IR spectroscopy, and their formation verified by density functional calculations.
