It is commonly believed that science teachers rely on language that allows only minor flexibility when it comes to taking into account contrasting views and pupil thoughts. Too frequently science teachers either pose questions that target predefined answers or simply lecture through lessons, a major concern from a sociocultural perspective. Oppilaiden näkemyksiä luonnontieteiden opettajan auktoriteetistä

Tässä tutkimuksessa selvitettiin oppilaiden näkemyksiä luonnontieteiden opettajan auktoriteetista, sen muodostumisesta ja kehittämisestä. Tutkimus pohjautuu fenomenologis-hermeneuttisen tutkimuksen piirteisiin. Oppilaiden (N = 25) näkemyksiä selvitettiin kyselytutkimuksen avulla ja tutkimusaineisto analysoitiin sekä tilastollisen analyysin että aineistolähtöisen sisällönanalyysin keinoin. Tulosten perusteella auktoriteetti liitettiin osaksi opettajan persoonaa ja asiantuntijuutta. Osaltaan auktoriteetin katsottiin tarkoittavan myös vuorovaikutussuhdetta, jossa opettajalla on oppilasta enemmän valtaa. During the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio in 1992 educators of every subject were asked to contribute to public awareness and understanding of the problems and challenges related to our planet’s future, in order to make possible citizens’ participation in well grounded decision-making. The purpose of our contribution is to analyse what science teachers’ perceptions are, because without correct teacher perception of the planetary crisis and its possible solutions, we can’t expect their effective implication in this dimension of education.

Kielentämisen näkökulmia kuudennen luokan oppilaiden matematiikan sanallisten tehtävien ratkaisuihin

Artikkelissa tarkastellaan kuudennen luokan lopussa oppilaiden tuottamia ratkaisuja kahteen sanalliseen ongelmanratkaisutehtävään. Tutkimuksen toteutti matemaattiseen ajatteluun ja sen kielentämiseen perehtynyt opettaja. Tutkimukseen osallistui 35 kuudennen luokan oppilasta. Tutkimusaineistona olivat oppilaiden kirjalliset ratkaisut kahteen sanalliseen ongelmanratkaisutehtävään. Oppilaat kuvasivat kielentämisen keinoin omaa matemaattista ajatteluaan sekä tehtävien tuottamisessa että ratkaisuprossien avaamisessa. Tuloksista on nähtävissä, että oppilailla oli taitoja kielentää monipuolisesti matemaattista ajatteluaan. Matematiikan opetuksessa olisikin hyvä ohjata oppilaita ilmaisemaan matemaa…

Checkpoint Leonardo – combining informal science and art education to primary and science teacher education

Both artists and scientists want to make the invisible world visible. Checkpoint Leonardo (CPL) is a project for teaching and learning the art and science ways to gain knowledge of the world in informal museum and school education simultaneously. It consists of a series of art exhibitions with tailored workshops based on the scientific and artistic perspectives of the exhibit artworks.
