Self-efficacy and perceived control in the prevention of cardiovascular disease

2010

Current Status of and Threats to Sicilian Turtles

2022

Based on the critical review of the literature published in the last 22 years, an attempt was made to evaluate the current knowledge gap on the distribution and status of the native Testudines taxa occurring in Sicily (namely Caretta caretta, Emys trinacris, and Testudo hermanni hermanni), as well as the available knowledge of the only non-native species with putative viable populations occurring on the island, i.e., Trachemys scripta. Summarizing the current information, all of the Testudines species occurring in Sicily showed a fragmented and incompletely-known distribution, and only scarce data are available about their phenology. Moreover, despite their inclusion of international and na…

Complexity of IL-1β induced gene expression pattern in human articular chondrocytes

1997

The mRNA fingerprinting technique, differential display reverse transcription polymerase chain (DDRT-PCR), was used to detect changes in the overall pattern of gene expression in human articular knee chondrocytes-induced by interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta), the prototypical inducer of catabolic responses in degenerate joint diseases. One hundred different primer combinations generated approximately 10,000 different PCR fragments for IL-1 beta treated, as well as for untreated human chondrocytes, cultivated in alginate beads. This represented 53% of all expressed chondrocyte genes as based on statistical considerations. Side by side comparisons of differential display patterns originating from…

Haem oxygenase-1 induction reverses the actions of interleukin-1β on hypoxia-inducible transcription factors and human chondrocyte metabolism in hypo…

2013

HO-1 (haem oxygenase-1) catalyses the degradation of haem and possesses anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective properties. The role of inflammatory mediators in the pathogenesis of OA (osteoarthritis) is becoming increasingly appreciated. In the present study, we investigated the effects of HO-1 induction in OA and healthy HACs (human articular chondrocytes) in response to inflammatory cytokine IL-1 β (interleukin-1β) under hypoxic conditions. Hypoxia was investigated as it is a more physiological condition of the avascular cartilage. Hypoxic signalling is mediated by HIFs (hypoxia-inducible factors), of which there are two main isoforms, HIF-1α and HIF-2α. Normal and OA chondrocytes were sti…

Transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of iNOS expression in human chondrocytes

2009

Chondrocytes are important for the development and maintenance of articular cartilage. However, both in osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) chondrocytes are involved in the process of cartilage degradation and synthesize important immunomodulatory mediators, including nitric oxide (NO) generated by the inducible NO synthase (iNOS). To uncover the role of iNOS in the pathomechanisms of OA and RA, we analyzed the regulation of iNOS expression using immortalized human chondrocytes as a reproducible model. In C-28/I2 chondrocytes, iNOS expression was associated with the expression of the chondrocyte phenotype. Peak induction by a cytokine cocktail occurred between 6 and 8h and dec…

Archives et bibliothèques à Cîteaux : entreprises d'écritures au Moyen Âge (XIIe siècle - début du XVIe siècle)

2019

This thesis project deals with the organization of scriptural productions, archival and library practices of Cîteaux Abbey. We consider the multiple forms of these pratices: creation and increase of archival holdings (Abbey archives and cistercian Order documents), filing, preservation of archives, relations with users. This research takes into account the aspects of document materiality and archaeology, studying cartulary and register processes with their bindings, inventory methods of archives and manuscripts, document appraisal and disposal, classification or restoration, shelf-marks and other graphic characters.

Rethinking the sGLOH Descriptor

2018

sGLOH (shifting GLOH) is a histogram-based keypoint descriptor that can be associated to multiple quantized rotations of the keypoint patch without any recomputation. This property can be exploited to define the best distance between two descriptor vectors, thus avoiding computing the dominant orientation. In addition, sGLOH can reject incongruous correspondences by adding a global constraint on the rotations either as an a priori knowledge or based on the data. This paper thoroughly reconsiders sGLOH and improves it in terms of robustness, speed and descriptor dimension. The revised sGLOH embeds more quantized rotations, thus yielding more correct matches. A novel fast matching scheme is a…

Transcriptome-wide identification of transient RNA G-quadruplexes in human cells

2018

Guanine-rich RNA sequences can fold into four-stranded structures, termed G-quadruplexes (G4-RNAs), whose biological roles are poorly understood, and in vivo existence is debated. To profile biologically relevant G4-RNA in the human transcriptome, we report here on G4RP-seq, which combines G4-RNA-specific precipitation (G4RP) with sequencing. This protocol comprises a chemical crosslinking step, followed by affinity capture with the G4-specific small-molecule ligand/probe BioTASQ, and target identification by sequencing, allowing for capturing global snapshots of transiently folded G4-RNAs. We detect widespread G4-RNA targets within the transcriptome, indicative of transient G4 formation in…
