Artikkeli käsittelee oppimisen kokemuksia selkomukautetun kaunokirjallisuuden parissa kotoutumiskoulutuksen lukupiirissä. Aineistona ovat lukupiirien 24 osallistujan haastattelut. Haastattelut on tehty osallistujien toisella kielellä tai lingua franca -englannilla, ja niitä lähestytään fenomenologista ajattelutapaa hyödyntäen kertomuksina oppimisen kokemuksista. Kokemukset vaihtelevat yksilöllisesti, ja tärkeimmiksi merkityskokonaisuuksiksi nousevat sanat, kielen rakenteet ja kielenkäyttö. How Hand Gestures Contribute to Action Ascription

This article investigates the embodied achievement of intersubjectivity by analyzing depictive gestures that are produced during the final components of the ongoing verbal TCU and extended into the following turn transition space. The depictive gestures in focus elaborate the TCUs by providing additional information on the verbal content of the turn. They may, for example, provide a visual representation of an action that is referred to in the verbal TCU, depict details that are not referred to in talk, or perform bodily enactments that model projected next actions. The study analyzes Finnish upper secondary school engslish as a foreign language (EFL) textbooks. It aims to create an overview of the type and the frequency of output-based activities in two different textbook series. The analysis examines textbooks from two different courses. The purpose of the study is to find out if there are gaps in the textbooks' activity repertoire so that teachers can complement them if they consider it necessary. Kielitaidon kehittymistä on tutkittu paljon, mutta korkeakouluissa tapahtuvaa kielellisestä kehitystä ei niinkään, varsinkaan Suomessa. Opiskelijat ovat muutaman pakollisen kielikurssin jälkeen oman motivaationsa varassa, jaksavatko he pitää yllä kielitaitoaan. Tutkimukseni tarkoituksena on tuoda esille, kuinka ensimmäisen vuoden historian opiskelijat näkevät oman kielitaitonsa ja sen kehittymisen joko parempaan tai huonompaan suuntaan vieraiden kielten kanssa heidän omasta mielestään.
