Strain rate dependence for evolution of steady state grain sizes: Insights from high-strain experiments on ice

Abstract Understanding of the microstructural evolution and equilibrium grain size development during steady state tertiary flow is essential in order to improve our knowledge of ice and rock deformation. This contribution presents results from in situ transmitted light deformation experiments of natural glacier ice, with the development of the microstructure in a tertiary flow regime. Seeding nerve sutures with minced nerve-graft (MINE-G): a simple method to improve nerve regeneration in rats

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the effect of seeding the distal nerve suture with nerve fragments in rats. Methods: On 20 rats, a 15 mm sciatic nerve defect was reconstructed with a nerve autograft. In the Study Group (10 rats), a minced 1 mm nerve segment was seeded around the nerve suture. In the Control Group (10 rats), a nerve graft alone was used. Parasitic myomas after laparoscopic surgery: an emerging complication in the use of morcellator? Description of four cases

Objective To report the development of parasitic myomas after the use of a morcellator. Design Retrospective study. Setting Tertiary care referral center for the treatment of benign gynecologic pathologies. Patient(s) Women undergoing surgery for uterine fibroids. Intervention(s) Chart review. Ballon occlusion of the renal artery in tumor nephrectomy.

AbstractA method of preoperative intraluminal occlusion of the renal artery in cases of kidney tumors using a 5F Swan-Ganz balloon catheter is presented. The procedure was used in 26 tumor nephrectomies without complications and resulted in marked facilitation of the operation in 70 per cent of the cases.

Shade effects on overseeded bermudagrass athletic fields: II. rooting, species composition, and traction

Shade from athletic stadium structures can be a significant detriment to turfgrass performance. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of shade on rooting and playing surface stability, measured as traction, on overseeded or non-overseeded bermudagrass (Cynodon spp.) turf. An experiment was established in 2013 on a mature bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. cv. Riviera] turf that was either overseeded with perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) or non-overseeded. Influence of Saharan dust on cloud glaciation in southern Morocco during the Saharan Mineral Dust Experiment

[1] Multiwavelength lidar, Sun photometer, and radiosonde observations were conducted at Ouarzazate (30.9°N, 6.9°W, 1133 m above sea level, asl), Morocco, in the framework of the Saharan Mineral Dust Experiment (SAMUM) in May–June 2006. The field site is close to the Saharan desert. PLLA/Fibrin Tubular Scaffold: A New Way for Reliable Endothelial Cell Seeding

In the present work a simple and quick technique for cell seeding into tubular-shaped scaffolds, which allows a homogeneous cell distribution, was tested. The poly-L-lactide (PLLA) scaffolds, prepared via diffusion induced phase separation (DIPS), were filled with fibrin gel in order to obtain a hybrid scaffold for Vascular Tissue Engineering applications. The formation of immobilized fibrin networks on the inner surface of the tubular scaffolds was observed using confocal microscopy and SEM. Two-Color Radiation Generated in a Seeded Free-Electron Laser with Two Electron Beams.

We present the experimental evidence of the generation of coherent and statistically stable two-color free-electron laser radiation obtained by seeding an electron beam double peaked in energy with a laser pulse single spiked in frequency. The radiation presents two neat spectral lines, with time delay, frequency separation, and relative intensity that can be accurately controlled. The analysis of the emitted radiation shows a temporal coherence and a shot-to-shot regularity in frequency significantly enhanced with respect to the self-amplified spontaneous emission. © 2015 American Physical Society. © 2015 American Physical Society.
