Urinary Arsenic Species and Methylation Efficiency During Pregnancy: Concentrations and Associated Factors in Spanish Pregnant Women
2021
Background: Arsenic (As) is considered to be toxic for humans, the main routes of exposure being through drinking water and the diet. Once ingested, inorganic arsenic can be methylated sequentially to monomethyl and dimethyl arsenicals. Several factors can affect both As exposure and methylation efficiency. Objectives: To describe the urinary concentrations of the different As species and evaluate the methylation effi-ciency during pregnancy, as well as their associated factors in a birth cohort of pregnant Spanish women. Methods: Participants in this cross-sectional study were 1017 pregnant women from two areas of Spain who had taken part in the INMA (Environment and Childhood) project (20…
The reduction of selenium(IV) by boreal Pseudomonas sp. strain T5-6-I – Effects on selenium(IV) uptake in Brassica oleracea
2019
Selenium (Se) is an essential micronutrient but toxic when taken in excessive amounts. Therefore, understanding the metabolic processes related to selenium uptake and bacteria-plant interactions coupled with selenium metabolism are of high importance. We cultivated Brassica oleracea with the previously isolated heterotrophic aerobic Se(IV)-reducing Pseudomonas sp. T5-6-I strain to better understand the phenomena of bacteria-mediated Se(IV) reduction on selenium availability to the plants. B. oleracea grown on Murashige and Skoog medium (MS-salt agar) with and without of Pseudomonas sp. were amended with Se(IV)/75Se(IV), and selenium transfer into plants was studied using autoradiography and…
Hypoxia-induced dysfunction of rat diaphragm
2004
Contains fulltext : 47331.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) Oxidants may play a role in hypoxia-induced respiratory muscle dysfunction. In the present study we hypothesized that hypoxia-induced impairment in diaphragm contractility is associated with elevated peroxynitrite generation. In addition, we hypothesized that strenuous contractility of the diaphragm increases peroxynitrite formation. In vitro force-frequency relationship, isotonic fatigability, and nitrotyrosine levels were assessed under hypoxic (Po(2) approximately 6.5 kPa) and hyperoxic (Po(2) approximately 88.2 kPa) control conditions and also in the presence of authentic peroxynitrite (60 min), ebselen (60 min), and t…
Antioxidants: Role in the prevention and treatment of bronchopulmonary dysplasia
2022
Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is one of the major causes of chronic respiratory diseases among infants. Both pharmacological and nonpharmacological approaches have been proposed for its management. Since oxidative stress is known to play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of BPD, it is reasonable to consider the potential of antioxidant strategies in the prevention and treatment of this condition. Indeed, antioxidants can prevent or inhibit substrate oxidation. Some studies have evaluated the efficacy of the exogenous administration of vitamins and micronutrients in reducing the propagation of free radicals through their scavenging capacity. Nonetheless, encouraging preclinical results d…
Structural transformations in amorphous selenium as studied by the differential thermal analysis and exoelectron emission technique
2007
The parameters (temperature, activation energy) of the surface and volume glass transition (retrification process) in amorphous selenium produced by rapid quenching of the liquid phase have been determined using the EEE and DTA techniques. EEE is a surface effect connected with structural transformations in the surface layer whereas the DTA measurements give the information about the transformations occurring in the volume of the sample. It has been found that the surface retrification of selenium occurs with activation energy smaller than the volume retrification, both observed in the first heating run. The value of activation energy for the volume retrification measured in the second DTA …
New reaction of 1H-pyrazoles with selenium dioxide: one-pot synthesis of bis(1H-pyrazol-4-yl)selenides
2010
Abstract A novel reaction between 3- and 3,5-substituted pyrazoles with selenium dioxide proceeds with formation of bis(3R,5R′-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)selenides in high yield. On this basis, an efficient one-pot synthetic procedure has been developed. In the case of the unsubstituted pyrazole a selenonium compound has been obtained. The identity and structure of the isolated selenium derivatives have been confirmed by spectral methods and their molecular structures investigated by X-ray analysis.
Selenium bāzēto ietvaru salīdzināšana
2017
Darba rezultātā autors secināja ka vieglāk izmantot jau gatavos risinājumus, nekā rakstīt savu ietvaru “no nulles”. Darbs sastāv 67 lapaspuse, 49 attēli, 1 tabula un 2 pielikumi

Chemogenic versus biogenic synthesis of Selenium nanoparticles: a structural characterization
Among the plethora of available metal- and metalloid-based nanomaterials (NMs), selenium nanostructures (SeNSs) are one of the most interesting from an applicative perspective due to their intermediate properties between metals and non-metals, as well as their high biocompatibility. In this regard, the capability of microorganisms to biotransform toxic Se-oxyanions – i.e., selenite (SeO32-) and selenate (SeO42-) – into their less bioavailable elemental forms [Se(0)], mostly generating Se nanoparticles (SeNPs), represents as a useful and green alternative over chemogenic synthesis allowing to obtain highly thermodynamically stable NMs. However, their structural characterization, in terms of …
Stereocontrolled approach to δ- and γ-lactones and 1,3-diols. The role of X− ion in the selenolactonization
2002
Abstract Two complementary approaches have been realized for the stereoselective synthesis of 4,6-disubstituted δ-lactones and 1,3- anti and syn diols. In the 6- endo selenolactonization the role of the X − ion on the stereoselectivity is shown. Moreover, the highly stereoselective transformation of the 6- endo δ-lactone to the 5- exo γ-lactone is reported.
