Multiplicative decomposition of the scaling effect in the Mixed Assessor Model into a descriptor-specific and an overall coefficients
2016
Abstract In 1994, Brockhoff and Skovgaard presented the so-called assessor model, including a “scaling coefficient” expressing the predisposition of a panelist to spread more or less his scores than the panel on a given sensory descriptor. This paper discusses potential scaling causes, and then proposes a decomposition of the scaling coefficient into two components: (i) an overall scaling coefficient, independent of the descriptors, expressing a psychological trend of the panelist towards the scoring task in general; (ii) a corrected scaling coefficient for each descriptor, expressing specific sensitivity of the panelist to the descriptor. Applied to 187 sensory datasets, this decomposition…
The MAM-CAP table: A new tool for monitoring panel performances
2014
Abstract Assessor performances in sensory analysis are usually represented by three indicators: repeatability, discrimination and agreement. However, assessors can also differ on the range of their scores, the so-called “scaling effect”. Brockhoff, Schlich, and Skovgaard (2013) proposed the mixed assessor model (MAM) which, as the original assessor model ( Brockhoff & Skovgaard, 1994 ), takes this effect into account, but also allows for the product effect to be tested against a new interaction free of the scaling effect. The present paper proposes a unified system for monitoring assessor and panel performances based on the MAM. In addition to the product effect (tested at panel and individ…
A comparison between nine laboratories performing triangle tests
2012
WOS: 000299451400001; International audience; Fifteen groups of participants in nine laboratories performed triangle tests with two pairs of soft drinks. Groups differed in practice level with triangle tests: eight groups of 60 consumers who were not used to triangle test, three groups of qualified assessors who have already performed a few triangle tests, and four groups of trained assessors with a more extensive practice of triangle tests; qualified and trained groups included 9 or 18 assessors. The soft drinks were made from syrups at two levels of dilution in order to achieve about 55% of correct responses to test for difference and about 40% of correct responses to test for similarity.…
LA REGOLAMENTAZIONE DELLE UNIONI CIVILI TRA PERSONE DELLO STESSO SESSO E DELLE CONVIVENZE IN ITALIA
2016
This study analyses the same-sex registered partnership and cohabiting couples Act recently approved by the Italian Parliament. Thanks to this, Italy should resolve the legal vacuum that has had as a result a lack of protection for the same-sex couples and the cohabiting couples.
Investigating the Impact of Radiation-Induced Soft Errors on the Reliability of Approximate Computing Systems
2020
International audience; Approximate Computing (AxC) is a well-known paradigm able to reduce the computational and power overheads of a multitude of applications, at the cost of a decreased accuracy. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have proven to be particularly suited for AxC because of their inherent resilience to errors. However, the implementation of AxC techniques may affect the intrinsic resilience of the application to errors induced by Single Events in a harsh environment. This work introduces an experimental study of the impact of neutron irradiation on approximate computing techniques applied on the data representation of a CNN.
Influence of Musical Expertise on the processing of Musical Features in a Naturalistic Setting
2019
Musical training causes structural and functional changes in the brain due to its sensory-motor demands, but the modulatory effect of musical training on music feature processing in the brain in a continuous music listening paradigm, has not been investigated thus far. In this work, we investigate the differences between musicians and non-musicians in the encoding of musical features encompassing musical timbre, rhythm and tone. 18 musicians and 18 non-musicians were scanned using fMRI while listening to 3 varied stimuli. Acoustic features corresponding to timbre, rhythm and tone were computationally extracted from the stimuli and correlated with brain responses, followed by t-tests on grou…
Protection against reverse engineering in ARM
2020
With the advent of the mobile industry, we face new security challenges. ARM architecture is deployed in most mobile phones, homeland security, IoT, autonomous cars and other industries, providing a hypervisor API (via virtualization extension technology). To research the applicability of this virtualization technology for security in this platform is an interesting endeavor. The hypervisor API is an addition available for some ARMv7-a and is available with any ARMv8-a processor. Some ARM platforms also offer TrustZone, which is a separate exception level designed for trusted computing. However, TrustZone may not be available to engineers as some vendors lock it. We present a method of appl…
Educare con la fiaba: le differenze di genere
2020
The anthropological premise to the pedagogical treatment of fairy tales contribution to the formation of sexual and gender identity in girls and boys is the origin of sexual dimorphism that, being present in all cultures, cannot only be the result of socio-cultural conditioning. Considering the mutual cooperation between men and women and the wider family and social harmony, contemporary fairy tales and the appropriate reinterpretations of classic fairy tales have great educational potential for sexual identity development and for overcoming social stereotypes related to sex in girls and boys.
Nutritional Outcome in Home Gastrostomy-Fed Children with Chronic Diseases
2019
The aim of the study was to assess the anthropometric outcomes after gastrostomy tube (GT) placement in children with chronic diseases and the influence of primary diagnosis, age, and nutritional support. A longitudinal, multicenter, and prospective study was performed evaluating 65 children with GT feeding and chronic diseases (61.5% with neurological disease). Each child was evaluated three times (at baseline and at 6 and 12 months after GT placement) and the following data was collected: primary diagnosis, age at GT placement, anthropometry, and feeding regime. Repeated measures ANOVA were used to analyze the main effects (intra and intergroup) and the interactions effects on weight gain…
