Industrial Areas and the City. Equalization and Compensation in a Value-Oriented Allocation Pattern

2016

This study deals with the allocation of the firms in a large industrial area of Quarto, a town in the Naples’ district subject to a “Piano di Insediamenti Industriali” – PIP (Industrial Settlement Masterplan). The main concern of the Municipality is the fair integration between environmental issues, economic development and urban identity. Therefore a structured evaluation process, based on a survey about the company profiles and their geographical location, has been carried out in order to make the plan meet the needs of the firms, and to select the best companies to settle in the planned area. A “generative” MAVT pattern has been designed to outline several layout options and to select th…

Geophysics and cultural heritage. A living field of research for Italian geophysicists

2015

If one reads the World Heritage List 2002/2003, (http:// whc.unesco.org/archive/WHList02-ENG.pdf), a datum comes out with evidence: 12 countries have 253 World Heritage Sites (WHS) and all the 125 member countries have 586 WHS. Within these 12 countries Italy has 35 WHS corresponding to about 6% of the whole, followed by Spain, 5.8%, France, 4.6%, and the tenth has less than 2% of WHS. Cultural heritage is one of the greatest riches of Italy. Europe, with China, is the land which has the most stratified history in the world, and Italy is likely to still have undiscovered settlements dating from the prehistoric age to the 18th century. Some areas are totally unexplored, others have been only…

Money for the Issuer: Liability or Equity?

2021

Abstract This study analyzes the nature of money through the lens of the international principles of accounting and lays the foundations of what it calls the accounting view of money (AVM). Using international accounting principles, the AVM argues that the fiat monies issued by the state (typically, cash, banknotes, and central bank money) are not debt and that in fractional reserve regimes, only a share of commercial bank money can be regarded as debt. The AVM argues, instead, that state monies and the nondebt share of commercial bank money are net wealth of their holders and net worth (equity) of their issuers and determines how the seigniorage associated with money issuance should be acc…

Urban Growth and Real Estate Income. A Comparison of Analytical Models

2016

Osiedle miejskie środowiskiem potencjalnych działań i interakcji społeczno-kulturowych i wychowawczych

2016

The article refers to the evaluation of local informers regarding collective overview of functioning of industrial settlement. The conducted research allowed to present fundamental spheres of community life from the perspective of the entire industrial town. The settlement constitutes not only a place of everyday life but also a place of young generation growth. The main aim of the study was to describe socio-cultural and educational settlement and its contemporary functioning. The past few years of urban transformation have led to the withdrawal from the idea of community (spatial) education to the benefit of privatization of teaching contents in social groups, institutions and mass media.…

A distinct section of the early bronze age society? Stable isotope investigations of burials in settlement pits and multiple inhumations of the Úněti…

2015

OBJECTIVES: Inhumations in so-called settlement pits and multiple interments are subordinate burial practices of the Early Bronze Age Unětice culture in central Germany (2200-1700/1650 BC). The majority of the Unětice population was entombed as single inhumations in rectangular grave pits with a normative position of the body. The goal of the study was to test archaeological hypotheses that the deviant burials may represent socially distinct or nonlocal individuals. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study comprised up to two teeth and one bone each of 74 human individuals from eight sites and faunal comparative samples. The inhumations included regular, deviant burials in so-called settlement or s…

Family networks and refugees’ health conditions. A picture from Italian informal settlements

2021

While the relationships between social networks and health are widely acknowledged in the literature, few of these studies have covered the population of refugees living in makeshift camps. In our analysis of a nationally representative Italian survey of individuals living in informal settlements, we find that many had weak family relations: only 10 per cent had one or more family members in their settlement. The paper analyses the effects of individual social network on two measures of health, and finds that the refugees’ health conditions were associated with both their personal characteristics and the characteristics of the settlement. The results show that more than 50 per cent of these…
