Fathers in focus: two discursive analyses on addressing men, work and care

We introduce in this chapter discourse analysis as a methodological tool for studying work-family issues, particularly those of men and fathers in work and care. Work and family involve complex processes and dynamics, where reconciling different interpretations of events are temporally and contextually changing. Current discourses on involved fatherhood raise many questions about men's work and family relationships and the role of care in their life. The operation of naval vessels involves watchkeeping 24 h per day, which is globally carried out by a variety of different watch systems. In this study, the rotating 4:4 and fixed 4:4/6:6 two-section watch systems were compared in terms of sleepiness, fatigue, and stress responses. The data collection took place on a Finnish Defence Forces' (FDF) Navy missile patrol boat with 15 crew members serving as study participants. The data collection periods lasted two separate weeks (7 days, 6 nights) with the different watch systems. El presente trabajo analizo las diferencias de la motivacion en situacion precompetitiva de judocas en funcion de los mediadores psicologicos (percepciones de competencia, apoyo a la autonomia y relaciones sociales), tal y como postula el Modelo Jerarquico de la Motivacion Intrinseca, Extrinseca y Amotivacion (Vallerand, 1997, 2001; Vallerand y Losier, 1999).
