Condylar position indicator and T-scan system II in clinical evaluation of temporomandibular intracapsular disease.

The pathogenesis of temporomandibular joint intracapsular disease (TMJI) is multifactorial and its diagnosis is not easy. In this work authors show two types of clinical analysis: the Condylar Position Indicator (CPI) and T-Scan 2 system.Twenty patients (mean age of 24.5 years) with TMJI problem and 10 healthy matched subjects (mean age: 25.4 years) were selected. Analysis of TMJI was performed on each patient by means of Condylar Position Indicator (CPI) and T-Scan System II tests.Eight patients presented vertical symmetrical condylar distraction greater than healthy subjects (P-value0.001). Abstract This work addresses the energy saving performances of some solar Desiccant and Evaporative Cooling (DEC) systems working with the freescoo technology. The innovative freescoo concept is based on the use two fixed and cooled adsorption beds and advanced indirect evaporative cooling processes. New optical paper sensor for in situ measurement of hydrogen sulphide in waters and atmospheres

A novel and low-cost colorimetric sensor for the determination of hydrogen sulphide in environmental samples has been developed. This sensor is based on the immobilization of the reagent N,N-Dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine and FeCl3 in paper support, in which the H2S is adsorbed in order to give rise to the formation of methylene blue as reaction product. The sensor has been applied to determine H2S in water and air samples. Two different sampling systems for H2S caption from the air have been assayed: active and passive sampling. SiPM as miniaturised optical biosensor for DNA-microarray applications

A miniaturized optical biosensor for low-level fluorescence emitted by DNA strands labelled with CY5 is showed. Aim of this work is to demonstrate that a Si-based photodetector, having a low noise and a high sensitivity, can replace traditional detection systems in DNA-microarray applications. The photodetector used is a photomultiplier (SiPM), with 25 pixels. It exhibits a higher sensitivity than commercial optical readers and we experimentally found a detection limit for spotted dried samples of ∼1 nM. Determination of ascorbic acid in asparagus by differential pulse polarography

A useful method for the determination of ascorbic acid in a vegetable product (asparagus) by differential pulse polarography has been set up and evaluated. Extraction and instrumental conditions were optimized. The analytical parameters are: linearity (0–18.18 μg/ml); detection limit (0.182 μg/ml); instrumental and method precision (2.77% and 4%, respectively); accuracy (96.9–113.4%). These data show that the method is sufficiently sensitive, reliable and accurate. It was also compared with the official fluorometric AOAC method.

In this paper, we present a new metric to estimate the perceived difference in contrast between an original image and a reproduction. This metric, named weighted-level framework Δ E E (WLF-DEE), implements a multilevel filtering based on the difference of Gaussians model proposed by Tadmor and Tolhurst (2000) and the new Euclidean color difference formula in log-compressed OSA-UCS space proposed by Oleari et al. (2009). Automated Electron Diffraction Tomography

Ab-initio structure analysis by electron diffraction is hampered by two major problems: insufficient number of reflections sampled and an intensity alteration by dynamical scattering contribution or beam damage. Thus, in recent years the principles of automated diffraction tomography (ADT) allowing systematic reciprocal space sampling and automated data analysis were developed. Here the basic ideas of ADT and its general applicability will be discussed along with some examples of solved structures.
