Large-Scale Synthesis of Mammalian Gonadoliberin without protection of side-chain functions

A simple, Large-scale preparation of mammalian gonadoliberin was elaborated using classical solution methods without protecting side-chain functions. At the final stage, a hexapeptide segment was condensed with the corresponding tetrapeptide and the obtained decapeptide was purified by a single chromatographic procedure on silica gel. The total efficiency of the whole synthesis and the purity of the product amounted to 34% and 98.3%, respectively.
Polyfurfuryl alcohol composite as adsorbent of polychlorinated biphenyls and pyrethroid insecticides

Abstract Composites from furfuryl alcohol and silica gel were prepared in dichloromethane using trifluoroacetic acid as catalyst and characterized by means of thermogravimetric analysis, transmission electron microscopy and nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms. The polymer content in the composites ranged between 19.5% and 32.9%. The capability to adsorb polychlorinated biphenyls and pyrethroid insecticides was tested for composite samples containing different percentages of polymer. Pyrethroids are retained almost totally by composites containing around 24–33% of polymer, while recovery of PCBs close to 80% is obtained with all the composites. Comparison of adsorption properties of commercial silica and rice husk ash (RHA) silica: A study by NIR spectroscopy

Abstract Adsorption properties of Silica gel (commercial silica), rice husk ash (RHA) silica, and their hydrothermally treated products towards water molecules were studied in this work. RHA silica was prepared by heating rice husk to 650°C for 4 h after pretreatment with hydrochloric acid. Portions of the samples of silica were evacuated at 200℃ and then allowed to adsorb water molecules from the surrounding air at either 42 or 50% humidity. The near infrared spectra of these samples were measured at different time intervals during their adsorption of water molecules. Acoustic spectroscopy of aerogel precursors

We investigate the acoustical properties of silica gels, which are precursors in the aerogel production process. These gels exhibit a strong “ringing gel” behavior, that is they emit a characteristic sound if one knocks against the container. We study this sound emission with a very simple spectroscopic technique and observe resonances which are characteristic for natural frequencies of a cylindrical body. From a fit of the experimental frequency positions to calculated values, we determine a sound velocity of c T = 4 m/s for a gel sample with porosity φ = 97.5%. Cross-Linked Imidazolium Salts as Scavengers for Palladium.

Five imidazolium-based materials have been synthesised and used for the first time as palladium scavengers. Radical reactions of suitable bis-vinylimidazolium salts led to a series of insoluble materials through homo-polymerisation, immobilisation with a 3-mercaptopropyl-modified silica gel or co-polymerisation with ethylene glycol dimethylacrylate. These materials were screened as palladium scavengers with a set of palladium(0) and palladium(II) compounds in different solvents and at different starting amounts of palladium. Supported Ionic Liquid Asymmetric Catalysis. A New Method for Chiral Catalysts Recycling. The Case of Proline-Catalyzed Aldol Reaction.

A new method for chiral catalysts recycling, based on the supported ionic liquid asymmetric catalysis concept, has been developed. This concept involves the treatment of a monolayer of covalently attached ionic liquid on the surface of silica gel with additional ionic liquid. These layers serve as the reaction phase in which the homogeneous chiral catalyst is dissolved. As first application of this concept the L-proline-catalyzed aldol reaction has been carried out. Good yields and ee values, comparable with those obtained under homogeneous conditions have been obtained. Moreover, this material shows high regenerability.
Synthesis of 2,4,6-trisubstituted tetrahydropyrans via 6-exo selenoetherification of unsaturated alcohols

Stereoselectivity, regioselectivity and yields in the 6-exo selenoetherification of four unsaturated diols were found to depend on the stereochemistry of the diols and on the presence of an oxygen atom close to the intermediate seleniranium ring. Silica gel was useful in order to obtain good yields. Reactions performed both under kinetic and thermodynamic control led to the same products. Stereoselectivity, regioselectivity and yields in the 6-exo selenoetherification of four unsaturated diols were found to depend on several factors such as the stereochemistry of the diols, the nature of the R group, the nature of the counter anion of the PhSe+ species and the presence of silica gel.
