In vitro experimental study of bonding between aluminium oxide ceramics and resin cements

To evaluate bond strengths of different resin cements to two aluminum oxide-based ceramics. Methods: One hundred ten ceramic cylinders were produced and given four different surface treatments. Resin cement cylinders were then bonded to the ceramic cylinders using different resin cements and the bond strength was determined by shear testing to the breaking point. We were thus able to obtain results for the different combinations of porcelain, surface treatments and cements. All data was analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test for more than two independent samples and the Bonferroni correction applied (a=0.01). Based on the lower implant mobility, implant impressions need high accuracy in the model transfer to receive a high passive fit within the final prosthodontic restoration. The catalytic performance of mesoporous cerium oxides prepared through a nanocasting route for the total oxidation of naphthalene

Cerium oxides have been prepared by nanocasting of a mesoporous siliceous KIT-6. Through this synthesis method a partially ordered mesoporous structure, as demonstrated by several characterization techniques (N2 adsorption, XRD and HRTEM) has been obtained. Accordingly, very high surface areas have been achieved (up to 163 m2/g), despite using high calcination temperatures (550 °C). We have demonstrated that the aging temperature of the siliceous template is of outstanding importance, as this parameter is directly responsible for both the pore size and the surface area of the catalysts. Extraction of uranyl ions from aqueous solutions using silica-gel-bound macrocycles for alpha contaminated waste water treatment

Abstract The efficiency for the extraction of U(VI) of new modified silica gels, namely N-tripropionate (or N-triacetate)-substituted tetraazamacrocycles-bound silica gels, has been studied. The effect of the nature of the ligand, the pH and the temperature was studied both in batch experiments as well as in continuous extraction. These silica gels are good candidates for the extraction of U(VI) when compared to a commercially available acid-type chelating resin. Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles in Chemical Detection: From Small Species to Large Bio-Molecules

A recompilation of applications of mesoporous silica nanoparticles in sensing from the last five years is presented. Its high potential, especially as hybrid materials combined with organic or bio-molecules, is shown. Adding to the multiplying effect of loading high amounts of the transducer into the pores, the selectivity attained by the interaction of the analyte with the layer decorating the material is described. Examples of the different methodologies are presented.

Organic synthesis of high added value molecules with MOF catalysts

Recent examples of organic synthesis of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals in confined spaces of MOFs are highlighted and compared with silica-based ordered porous solids, such as zeolites or mesoporous (organo)silica. The structure of pumice: An XPS and27Al MAS NMR study

In order to investigate the surface structure of pumice, an amorphous aluminosilicate, samples of pumice and of standards of silica and alumina have been studied by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The effect of a mild acid leaching was also considered. The analysis of the Si 2p, Al 2p and O 1s photoelectron peaks and the Si KLL and O KLL Auger peaks indicated that pumice is formed by tetrahedral silica with some units being replaced by aluminate, AlO2−. The acid treatment decreases the alkali and the aluminate ions. X-ray photoelectron spectra of the valence band of pumices and of standards of Al2O3 and SiO2 agree with the core-level results. Experimental evidence of E’_gamma centers generation from oxygen vacancies in a-SiO2

Abstract We report on the thermal treatment effects in a γ-ray irradiated oxygen deficient amorphous silicon dioxide (a-SiO2) containing Al impurities. We observed that by thermal treatments the intensity of the 7.6 eV optical absorption band, associated to an oxygen deficient center, and the EPR signal amplitude of irradiation induced [AlO4]0 centers gradually decrease. During these thermal treatments, the E γ ′ centers concentration is found to increase in a correlated way to the decrease of the 7.6 eV absorption amplitude. Heterogeneous Dinuclear Rhodium(II) Hydroformylation Catalysts—Performance Evaluation and Silsesquioxane-Based Chemical Modeling

Supported, air stable, and reusable hydroformylation catalysts have been prepared by immobilizing dinuclear rhodium(II) complexes bearing ortho-metalated arylphosphane ligands on amorphous silica and mesoporous MCM-41 supports by phosphane tethers. The oligosilsesquioxane model complex of the catalytic site 1 has been prepared analogously and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
