New insights in the formation of silanol defects in silicalite-1 by water intrusion under high pressure.

International audience; The "water-silicalite-1" system is known to act as a molecular spring. The successive intrusion-extrusion cycles of liquid water in small crystallites (6 × 3 × 0.5 μm(3)) of hydrophobic silicalite-1 were studied by volumetric and calorimetric techniques. The experiments displayed a decrease of the intrusion pressure between the first intrusion-extrusion cycle and the consecutive ones, whereas the extrusion pressures remained unchanged. The Structure, Stoichiometry and Properties of C-S-H Prepared by C3S Hydration Under Controlled Condition

Hydrations of tricalcium silicate undertaken by keeping constant lime concentration in solution in an open system and in diluted suspensions for different values of [CaO] ranging between 6.5 and 30 mmol/1 show that the lime concentration in solution is the parameter which determines the main characteristics of the reaction and products. The stoichiometry of C3S hydration products vanes with lime concentration in the same way as synthetic C-S-H until C/S c.a. 1.5 corresponding to about [CaO] =20 mmol/1. Surface charge fine tuning of reversed-phase/weak anion-exchange type mixed-mode stationary phases for milder elution conditions.

A series of new mixed-mode reversed-phase/weak anion-exchange (RP/WAX) phases have been synthesized by immobilization of N-undecenyl-3-α-aminotropane onto thiol-modified silica gel by thiol-ene click chemistry and subsequent introduction of acidic thiol-endcapping functionalities of different type and surface densities. Borate-driven gatelike scaffolding using mesoporous materials functionalised with saccharides.

We report the development of an MCM-41 mesoporous support that is functionalised with saccharides at the pore outlets and contains the dye [Ru(bipy)(3)](2+) in the pores (solid S1; bipy = 2,2'-bipyridyl). For this hybrid system, the inhibition of mass transport of the dye from the pore voids to the bulk solution in the presence of borate is demonstrated in water at neutral pH. The formation of the corresponding boroester derivative is related to the selective reaction of borate with the appended saccharides. Controlling protein interactions in blood for effective liver immunosuppressive therapy by silica nanocapsules

Immunosuppression with glucocorticoids is a common treatment for autoimmune liver diseases and after liver transplant, which is however associated with severe side-effects. Targeted delivery of glucocorticoids to inflammatory cells, e.g. liver macrophages and Kupffer cells, is a promising approach for minimizing side effects. Herein, we prepare core–shell silica nanocapsules (SiO2 NCs) via a sol–gel process confined in nanodroplets for targeted delivery of dexamethasone (DXM) for liver immunosuppressive therapy. Abstract High surface area pure mesoporous aluminum-phosphorus oxide-based derivatives have been synthesized through an S+I− surfactant-assisted cooperative mechanism by means of a one-pot preparative procedure from aqueous solution and starting from aluminum atrane complexes and phosphoric and/or phosphorous acids. A soft chemical extraction procedure allows opening the pore system of the parent as-prepared materials by exchanging the surfactant without mesostructure collapse. Solubility of Zn(II) in Association with Calcium Silicate Hydrates in Alkaline Solutions

The binding of Zn(II) to the cement mineral calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) was investigated in a well-defined laboratory system. CSH (Ca:Si = 1:1) was synthesized by coprecipitation with varying contents of Zn(II). Zn(II) was added in the proportions 0, 0.1, 1.0, 5.0, and 10% in exchange for Ca. The resulting CSH was characterized by X-ray diffraction. The solid phases were then equilibrated in aqueous suspensions, and the solubilities of Ca, Si, and of Zn(II) were determined as a function of pH and Zn(II) content in the solid phase. Triple-Quantum Two-Dimensional 27Al Magic Angle Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Study of the Aluminum Incorporation in Calcium Silicate Hydrates

Triple-quantum two-dimensional 27Al magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (27Al 3Q-MAS NMR) was used to characterize the substitution of Si4+ by Al3+ into the Te−Oc−Te structure of calcium silicate hydrates (C−S−H). This substitution was studied with C−S−H having an Oc/Te ratio of 1 and in equilibrium with Al(OH)3 in aqueous suspensions. In the absence of NaOH, no substitution into the C−S−H structure occurred. Addition of NaOH in the preparation increased the concentration of Al(OH)4- and favored substitution.
