Cytotoxic, immunomodulatory, antimycotic, and antiviral activities of semisynthetic 14-hydroxyabietane derivatives and triptoquinone C-4 epimers

A series of C14-hydroxy derivatives of dehydroabietic acid were synthesised from commercial abietic acid and evaluated for their cytotoxic, antimycotic, and antiviral activities. From these C14-hydroxy derivatives, triptoquinone C-4 epimers were obtained and their immunomodulatory activity was additionally evaluated. None of the tested compounds showed antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HHV-1), and nor did they display antimycotic activity against certain Aspergillus, spp. except for one compound, abieta-8,11,13-trien-14,18-diol. Benchmarking global SU(2) symmetry in two-dimensional tensor network algorithms

We implement and benchmark tensor network algorithms with $SU(2)$ symmetry for systems in two spatial dimensions and in the thermodynamic limit. Specifically, we implement $SU(2)$-invariant versions of the infinite projected entangled pair states and infinite projected entangled simplex states methods. Our implementation of $SU(2)$ symmetry follows the formalism based on fusion trees from Schmoll et al. [Ann. Phys. 419, 168232 (2020)]. Addition of BrdUrd in combination with prednisolone to HSVi-transformed hamster embryo cells induces an alkaline phosphatase (AP). FdUrd enhances, dThd reduces the inducing capacity of BrdUrd and prednisolone. Induction is prevented by addition of cycloheximide or of cytosine arabinoside. BrdUrd reduces transport and phosphorylation of exogenously applied labeled Urd, especially the amount of UTP, UDP and Urd-diphosphate sugars. The Lineweaver-Burk-plot of uridine-up­take after addition of BrdUrd reveales the characteristics of the mixed type inhibition (competi­tive-noncompetitive).

Spatial Search by Continuous-Time Quantum Walk with Multiple Marked Vertices

In the typical spatial search problems solved by continuous-time quantum walk, changing the location of the marked vertices does not alter the search problem. In this paper, we consider search when this is no longer true. In particular, we analytically solve search on the "simplex of $K_M$ complete graphs" with all configurations of two marked vertices, two configurations of $M+1$ marked vertices, and two configurations of $2(M+1)$ marked vertices, showing that the location of the marked vertices can dramatically influence the required jumping rate of the quantum walk, such that using the wrong configuration's value can cause the search to fail. Palatal steatocystoma simplex—a rare oral finding at an even rarer location

ABSTRACT Steatocystoma is a rare, benign cyst that mostly originates from a dermal sebaceous gland. It can be divided into steatocystoma multiplex—with multiple locations—and steatocystoma simplex occurring at a single site. The lesion is mostly located on the skin but can be found on other locations as well. This is the first case report of steatocystoma simplex that was found in the palate of a 37-year-old male. After resection with small safety margins and local wound dressing, no recurrence was detected during a follow-up of 1.5 years.

Thymidine-, uridine- and choline-kinase in rabbit kidney cells infected with herpesvirus hominis, type I and II.

Data are presented about the activity of the thymidine-, uridine- and choline-kinase after infection with 21 strains ofherpesvirus hominis of serotype I or II in rabbit kidney cells. Type I strains increase the activity of the thymidine-kinase 15–20 fold over the controls, whereas the type II strains demonstrate a moderate activity, the level of the enzyme is increased 2–5 fold. One giant cell forming strain exhibits unusual properties, the TK activity decreases in correlation to the controls. Induction capacity and influence of dThdMP on thymidine kinase activity of type 1 and 2 strains of herpes simplex virus

The thymidine kinase inducing ability of 104 strains of herpes simplex virus was studied comparatively. A pronounced relationship was established between induction of the enzyme and the serotype of the strains. As a rule, the strains of serotype 2 are weaker inducer of dThd- and dCyd-kinase activity than serotype 1 strains. A certain parallelism exists between induction of both enzymes, however the activity of the thymidine kinase increases after infection with herpes simplex virus 4--5 times more than that of the dCyd-kinase. Anisakis simplex (AS) is a cause of allergic sensitization and potential occupational risk is suggested in fishermen and workers assigned to fish processing and sale. A cross-sectional study was conducted in order to assess possible health effects of occupational exposure to AS in workers recruited from western Sicily fisheries sector. Ribonuclease H levels in herpes simplex virus-infected cells.

Two forms of ribonuclease H (RNase H) have been identified both in uninfected and Herpes Simplex virus (HSV-)infected BHK cells. Identical RNase H species were detected in control- as well as in infected cells. RNase H I and II have not been found to be associated both with host cell DNA polymerase alpha and beta and HSV-induced DNA polymerase. Infection of BHK cells with HSV type 1 does not lead to a pronounced alteration of RNase H II activity but to an increase (3-fold) of the extractable RNase H I activity.
