FT-IR investigation of the state of iron (III) chloride clusters confined in AOT reverse micelles dispersed in carbon tetrachloride
2007
The state of the water-soluble salt iron(III) chloride in AOT reverse micelles dispersed in carbon tetrachloride has been investigated by FT-IR spectroscopy. Interestingly, while the entrapment of a lot of water-soluble inorganic salts in AOT reverse micelles requires preliminarily the presence of significant amounts of water within the micellar core, solubilization of FeCl3 occurs without the need to add water in the micellar solution reaching the very high solubility value, expressed as the maximum salt-to-surfactant molar ratio, of 1.30. The analysis of the spectral features of the investigated samples leads to hypothesize that iron(III) chloride is confined within the reverse micellar c…
Influence of land use on the characteristics of humic substances in some tropical soils of Nigeria
2005
Summary In highly weathered tropical conditions, soil organic matter is important for soil quality and productivity. We evaluated the effects of deforestation and subsequent arable cropping on the qualitative and quantitative transformation of the humic pool of the soil at three locations in Nigeria. Cultivation reduced the humic pool in the order: acetone-soluble hydrophobic fraction (HE) > humic acid (HA) > humin (HU) > fulvic acid (FA), but not to the same degree at all three sites. The C and N contents, as well as the C/N ratios of humic extracts, were large and not substantially influenced by land use. The δ13C values of the humic extracts were invariably more negative in forested soil…
A Co2O2 metallacycle exclusively supported by l-valine
2008
Abstract [Co2(OH)2( l -valine)4]·2.5H2O has been prepared under hydrothermal conditions and constitutes the first example of a [Co2O2] core supported exclusively by aminoacids. This synthetic dimetallic model for redox active metalloenzymes is one of the few binary aminoacid compounds of biologically relevant metal ions that has been structurally characterized, showing the possibilities of this synthetic approach for preparation of models in bioinorganic chemistry.
Relationship between conformation and physicochemical properties of polypeptides. I. Synthesis of homo- and co-oligopeptides by the liquid-phase meth…
1980
The synthesis of the following oligo- and co-oligopeptides by the liquid-phase method is described: (L-Met)15 (I), [L-Glu(OBzl)]20 (II), (L-Val)8-Gly (IV), (L-Ile)8-Gly (V), (L-Ile)4-Gly-(L-Ile)4 (VI), (L-Ile)4-Pro-(L-Ile)4 (VII), (L-Met)5-L-Pro-(L-Met)5 (VIII), [L-Glu(OBzl)]7-L-Pro-[L-Glu(OBzl)]7 (IX). The oligomers are covalently bound to bifunctional polyethylene glycol (PEG) and monofunctional PEG-M of Mr 5 × 103−2 × 104. Analytical controls were carried out after each step of synthesis in order to ensure quantitative coupling yields. All products could be obtained in high purity as indicated by amino acid analysis, thin-layer chromatography and chiroptical methods. The solubility of th…
Electrochemical synthesis of sulfamides.
2021
Herein we demonstrate the first electrochemical synthesis protocol of symmetrical sulfamides directly from anilines and SO2 mediated by iodide. Sulfamides are an emerging functional group in drug design. Highlights are the direct use of SO2 from a stock solution and no necessity of any supporting electrolyte. Overall, the reaction has been demonstrated for 15 examples with yields up to 93%.
Magnetic Disaccommodation in Manganese Ferrites in the Temperature Region IV
1991
The magnetic relaxation in polycrystalline, nonstoichiometric manganese ferrite samples MnxFe3−xO4 is investigated as a function of the Mn content (0 ≦ x ≦ 1). The analysis of the experimental results shows that in the temperature region IV two different relaxation processes at 285 (IV) and 220 K (IVa) can be distinguished. The process IV exhibits orientational relaxation characteristics and is composed by the superposition of two Debye processes with activation energies close to 0.75 and 0.80 eV whereas relaxation IV a could be associated with vacancy migration through the lattice, but future investigations are necessary to probe this. Es wird die magnetische Relaxation in polykristallinen…
Stabilization of polynuclear plutonium(IV) species by humic acid
2014
Abstract Although the formation of tetravalent plutonium (Pu(IV)) polymers with natural organic matter was previously observed by spectroscopy, there is no quantitative evidence of such reaction in batch experiments. In the present study, Pu(IV) interaction with humic acid (HA) was investigated at pH 1.8, 2.5 and 3, as a function of HA concentration and for Pu total concentration equal to 6 × 10−8 M. The finally measured Pu(IV) concentrations ([Pu(IV)]eq) are below Pu(IV) solubility limit. Pu(IV)–HA interaction can be explained by the complexation of Pu(IV) monomers by HA up to [Pu(IV)]eq ∼ 10−8 M. However, the slope of the log–log Pu(IV)–HA binding isotherm changes from ∼0.7 to ∼3.5 for hi…

Thermodynamics of copolymer solutions: how the pair interactions contribute to the overall effect.
2014
Vapor pressure measurements were performed for solutions of poly(methyl methacrylate-ran-tert-butyl methacrylate) with different weight fractions of tert-butyl methacrylate units, and their parental homopolymers in chloroform at 323 K, over a large domain of concentrations. The Flory–Huggins interaction parameters obtained from these experimental investigations show complex dependences of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter on concentration and copolymer composition. This behavior can be modeled by taking into account an approach which considers the ability of the polymers to rearrange in a response to changes in their molecular surroundings [Adv. Polym. Sci. 2011, 238, 1–66]. According…
Near infrared dyes by combination of squaraine and ferrocene chromophores
2000
Abstract Squaraines represent a class of compounds which attracts a lot of attention in materials science. A synthetic sequence for the preparation of the symmetrical squaraines 12a , b , which contain ferrocene units as electron donors, is described. The compounds exhibit, in dichloromethane or chloroform, two intense absorption bands. One of them is located at 641/650 nm—a normal region for squaraines; however, the other band is strongly shifted to long wavelengths and has its maximum at 921/961 nm. Alkyl sidechains enhance the solubility of 12a , b , which represent a new type of NIR dyes.
