High-resolution FTIR spectrum and analysis of the ν2+ν4 combination band of 32SF6

2003

Abstract The spectroscopic knowledge of sulfur hexafluoride, which is necessary for a correct remote sensing and monitoring of this species in the Earth’s atmosphere, is still very partial. In particular, the hot bands in the strongly absorbing ν 3 region (near 948 cm −1 ) have not been analyzed yet. Their study implies the analysis of many vibrational levels and thus the spectroscopy of various fundamental, harmonic, and combination bands. The present work is a new contribution to this topic, concerning the ν 2 + ν 4 combination band. The FTIR spectrum of this region has been recorded at room temperature with a resolution of 0.002 cm −1 . The data have been analyzed thanks to the HTDS soft…

An intrinsic characterization of spherically symmetric spacetimes

2010

We give the necessary and sufficient (local) conditions for a metric tensor to be a non conformally flat spherically symmetric solution. These conditions exclusively involve explicit concomitants of the Riemann tensor. As a direct application we obtain the {\em ideal} labeling of the Schwarzschild, Reissner-Nordstr\"om and Lema\^itre-Tolman-Bondi solutions.

An Exact Riemann Solver for Multidimensional Special Relativistic Hydrodynamics

2001

We have generalised the exact solution of the Riemann problem in special relativistic hydrodynamics (Marti and Muller, 1994) for arbitrary tangential flow velocities. The solution is obtained by solving the jump conditions across shocks plus an ordinary differential equation arising from the self-similarity condition along rarefaction waves, in a similar way as in purely normal flow. This solution has been used to build up an exact Riemann solver implemented in a multidimensional relativistic (Godunov-type) hydro-code.

Numerical study of the stability of the Peregrine solution

2017

International audience; The Peregrine solution to the nonlinear Schrödinger equations is widely discussed as a model for rogue waves in deep water. We present here a detailed fully nonlinear numerical study of high accuracy of perturbations of the Peregrine solution as a solution to the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations. We study localized and nonlocalized perturbations of the Peregrine solution in the linear and fully nonlinear setting. It is shown that the solution is unstable against all considered perturbations.

Development of a High Precision Axial 3-D PET for Brain Imaging

2009

We describe a PET device based on a novel method to extract the coordinates of the interaction point of the 511keV γ rays from 100 mm long and thin LYSO (Lutetium Yttrium OxyorthoSilicate) scintillator bars, positioned axially in the tomograph. The coordinate along the hit crystal is measured by using a hodoscope of Wave Length Shifting (WLS) plastic strips mounted perpendicularly to each plane of scintillators. As photodetectors, new Geiger mode Avalanche PhotoDetectors (G-APDs) with integrated electronics are being used to detect both the hit crystal in a block (x and y coordinates) and the interaction point in the crystal (z coordinate) through the light escaping from the crystal and tra…

Next generation of the Albira small animal PET based on high density SiPM arrays

2015

A new design of the small animal PET Albira system which detectors are based on arrays of SiPMs and monolithic LYSO scintillator is presented here. The system is made out of 3 rings of 8 detectors each, resulting on an axial and transaxial FOVs of 148 and 80 mm, respectively. The scanner is thermally stabilized using air-cooling. Working temperatures around 22–25°C are reached with individual detector variations around 0.2°C minimizing dark count rates and gain drifts. One of the most significant improvements of the current system is the accurate photon impact determination within the crystal volume, specially its depth of interaction. This allows the calculation of the true line of respons…

The AX-PET Concept: New Developments And Tomographic Imaging

2011

The Axial PET (AX-PET) concept proposes a novel detection geometry for PET, based on layers of long scintillating crystals axially aligned with the bore axis. Arrays of wavelength shifting (WLS) strips are placed orthogonally and underneath the crystal layers; both crystals and strips are individually readout by G-APDs. The axial coordinate is obtained from the WLS signals by means of a Center-of-Gravity method combined with a cluster algorithm. This design allows spatial resolution and sensitivity to be decoupled and thus simultaneously optimized. In this work we present the latest results obtained with the 2-module AX-PET scanner prototype, which consists of 6 radial layers of 8 LYSO crys…

Nuclear matrix elements for0νββdecays with light or heavy Majorana-neutrino exchange

2015

We compute the nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) corresponding to the neutrinoless double beta ($0\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{\beta}$) decays of nuclei which attract current experimental interest. We concentrate on ground-state-to-ground-state decay transitions mediated by light (l-NMEs) or heavy (h-NMEs) Majorana neutrinos. The computations are done in realistic single-particle model spaces using the proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pnQRPA) with two-nucleon interactions based on the Bonn one-boson-exchange $G$ matrix. Both the l-NMEs and the h-NMEs include the appropriate short-range correlations, nucleon form factors, and higher-order nucleonic weak …

The exact solution of the Riemann problem with non-zero tangential velocities in relativistic hydrodynamics

2000

We have generalised the exact solution of the Riemann problem in special relativistic hydrodynamics for arbitrary tangential flow velocities. The solution is obtained by solving the jump conditions across shocks plus an ordinary differential equation arising from the self-similarity condition along rarefaction waves, in a similar way as in purely normal flow. The dependence of the solution on the tangential velocities is analysed, and the impact of this result on the development of multidimensional relativistic hydrodynamic codes (of Godunov type) is discussed.

Stopping a slow-light soliton: an exact solution

2005

We investigate propagation of a slow-light soliton in Λ-type media such as atomic vapours and Bose–Einstein condensates. We show that the group velocity of the soliton monotonically decreases with the intensity of the controlling laser field, which decays exponentially after the laser is switched off. The shock wave of the vanishing controlling field overtakes the slow soliton and stops it, while the optical information is recorded in the medium in the form of spatially localized polarization. In the strongly nonlinear regime we find an explicit exact solution describing the whole process.
