Tailoring the axial shape of the point spread function using the Toraldo concept
2002
A novel procedure for shaping the axial component of the point spread function of nonparaxial focusing systems by use of phase-only pupil filters is presented. The procedure is based on the Toraldo technique for tailoring focused fields. The resulting pupil filters consist of a number of concentric annular zones with constant real transmittance. The number of zones and their widths can be adapted according to the shape requirements. Our method is applied to design filters that produce axial superresolution in confocal scanning systems.
Left-handed metamaterial coatings for subwavelength-resolution imaging
2012
We report on a procedure to improve the resolution of far-field imaging by using a neighboring high-index medium that is coated with a left-handed metamaterial. The resulting plot can also exhibit an enhanced transmission by considering proper conditions to retract backscattering. Based on negative refraction, geometrical aberrations are considered in detail since they may cause a great impact in this sort of diffraction-unlimited imaging by reducing its resolution power. We employ a standard aberration analysis to refine the asymmetric configuration of metamaterial superlenses. We demonstrate that low-order centrosymmetric aberrations can be fully corrected for a given object plane. For su…
Exceeding the resolving imaging power using environmental conditions
2007
We present two approaches that use the environmental conditions in order to exceed the classical Abbe's limit of resolution of an aperture-limited imaging system. At first we use water drops in order to improve the resolving capabilities of an imaging system using a time-multiplexing approach. The limit for the resolution improvement capabilities is equal to the size of the rain drops. The rain drops falling close to the imaged object act as a sparse and random high-resolution mask attached to it. By applying proper image processing, the center of each falling drop is located, and the parameters of the encoding grating are extracted from the captured set of images. The decoding is done digi…
Combining hectometric and decametric satellite observations to provide near real time decametric FAPAR product
2017
Abstract A wide range of ecological, agricultural, hydrological and meteorological applications at local to regional scales requires decametric biophysical data. However, before the launch of SENTINEL-2A, only few decametric products are produced and most of them remain limited by the small number of available observations, mostly due to a moderate revisit frequency combined with cloud occurrence. Conversely, kilometric and hectometric biophysical products are now widely available with almost complete and continuous coverage, but the associated spatial resolution limits the application over heterogeneous landscapes. The objective of this study is to combine unfrequent decametric spatial res…
Path integral solution for nonlinear systems under parametric Poissonian white noise input
2016
Abstract In this paper the problem of the response evaluation in terms of probability density function of nonlinear systems under parametric Poisson white noise is addressed. Specifically, extension of the Path Integral method to this kind of systems is introduced. Such systems exhibit a jump at each impulse occurrence, whose value is obtained in closed form considering two general classes of nonlinear multiplicative functions. Relying on the obtained closed form relation liking the impulses amplitude distribution and the corresponding jump response of the system, the Path Integral method is extended to deal with systems driven by parametric Poissonian white noise. Several numerical applica…
Electrochemistry of iron oxide pigments (earths) from pictorial microsamples attached to graphite–polyester composite electrodes
2001
The electrochemical response of different iron pigments attached to graphite–polyester composite electrodes is described. Characteristic differential pulse voltammetric profiles were obtained for green earth, iron oxide red, Mars black, ochre yellow, Sienna raw, umber raw and Van Dyke brown. Proton-assisted reductive dissolution processes occur at the three-phase boundary of the substrate electrode–attached solid–electrolyte solution system. Microsamples extracted from polychromed sculptures, canvas paintings, wall paintings, altarpieces and panel paintings from Spain, Ethiopia and Italy from the 12th to the 20th centuries were electrochemically identified in agreement with polarized light …
Electrochemical and spectroscopic investigations of selected N -heteroalkylaminomethylenebisphosphonic acids with Pb(II) ions
2016
Abstract The coordination properties of aminomethylenebisphosphonic acids towards various metal ions have been exploited during the last decade. These compounds are good chelators for biologically important metal ions, such as Cu(II), Fe(II), Zn(II), Ca(II), and Mg(II), as well as a toxic ion (i.e., Cd(II)). In this study, the interactions of five aminomethylenebisphosphonates with N-substituted heteroalkyl moieties (L1, L2 and L3) and their N-pyridyl (L4) and N-benzylpiperazine (L5) derivatives with Pb(II) ions were investigated. A wide range of analytical methods were employed, including potentiometry, pulse polarography (DPP), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and electrospra…
Interactions of N-heteroalkylaminomethylenebisphosphonic acids with Cd(II) ions: Electrochemical and spectroscopic investigations
2015
The aminomethylenebisphosphonates are known to be excellent chelators for many metal ions. In this work, the coordination properties of three different aminomethylenebisphosphonates with N-substituted heteroalkyl moieties (L1, L2 and L3) and their N-pyridyl derivative (L4) toward cadmium(II) ions are described. Due to their coordination abilities over a broad range of pH, the compounds of this group are good candidates for heavy metal detoxification. To determine the stability constants and the coordination mode of formed aminomethylenebisphosphonate-cadmium(II) complexes, four analytical methods were employed: potentiometry, pulse polarography (DPP), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy…
On the "Expanded" Local Mode Approach and Isotopic Eff ect (CH2D2/CH3D/CHD3) in the Methane Molecule.
2010
Earlier derived, [1] - [3], for the XY2 (C2v) and XY3 (C3v) molecules "expanded local mode model" is applied to the methane-type, XH4, molecules. Value of the ambiguity parameter, sin \_gamma, simple value of all transformation coefficients, l, are obtained for the CH4 molecule. It gives us possibility, on the one hand, 1). to derive simple relations between different spectroscopic parameters (harmonic frequencies, anharmonic parameters and vibrational tetrahedral coefficients, rotational-vibrational and rotational tetrahedral coefficients) of the CH4 molecule, and, on the other hand, 2). on the base of the general isotopic substitution theory (see, e:g:, [4]), to obtain very simple values …
