Saturation excess runoff numerical simulation

2005

Saturation excess runoff is a relevant process which needs additional experimental and modeling efforts. This work is focused on its numerical modeling. The final objective is the successive interpretation of ongoing experimental monitoring results in two watersheds in different areas of Italy where the saturation excess runoff formation mechanism seems to be important. The numerical solution of the two-dimensional Richards’ equation allows the evaluation of the sensitivity to the various influent parameters : rainfall intensity, soil properties, depth and initial water content, slope and hillslope length. Also the subsurface flow is simulated at the same time, allowing the evaluation of th…

Surface soil water content estimation based on thermal inertia and Bayesian smoothing

2014

Soil water content plays a critical role in agro-hydrology since it regulates the rainfall partition between surface runoff and infiltration and, the energy partition between sensible and latent heat fluxes. Current thermal inertia models characterize the spatial and temporal variability of water content by assuming a sinusoidal behavior of the land surface temperature between subsequent acquisitions. Such behavior implicitly supposes clear sky during the whole interval between the thermal acquisitions; but, since this assumption is not necessarily verified even if sky is clear at the exact epoch of acquisition, , the accuracy of the model may be questioned due to spatial and temporal varia…

Different Type Clay Amendments for Lead Immobilization in Contaminated Soils

2014

Contamination with lead in soil is a crucial problem in industrial and military sites. Immobilization of lead by natural and modified clay as soil amendment can be an effective solution to this problem. Quaternary and Devonian clays were chosen for modification with NaCl, CaCl2, FeOOH and Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 in different proportions of Ca/P equimolar ratio to test and compare immobilization efficiency of lead (II) on raw and modified clays by using a batch leaching test. The aim of the study is to compare different types of raw and modified clays as soil amendments by lead immobilization properties.

Single junction and tandem perovskite solar cells

2017

Modeling the acid-base properties of molybdate(VI) in different ionic media, ionic strengths and temperatures, by EDH, SIT and Pitzer equations

2017

This paper reports the results of a study on the determination of the protonation constants of MoO42 −, in NaClaq, NaNO3aq, KClaq, at different ionic strengths (0 < I/mol dm− 3 ≤ 5.0 in NaClaq, 0 < I/mol dm− 3 ≤ 3.0 in NaNO3aq and KClaq) and temperatures (278.15 ≤ T/K ≤ 318.15 in NaClaq, only 298.15 K in NaNO3aq and KClaq), by potentiometric (ISE-H+ glass electrode) and spectrophotometric (UV/Vis) titrations. After a critical analysis of results and literature findings, the proposed speciation model takes into account the formation of two monomeric and four heptameric species, namely: MoO4H−, MoO4H2, (MoO4)7H86 −, (MoO4)7H95 −, (MoO4)7H104 − and (MoO4)7H113 −. Due to the complexity of…

Host–guest complexes of conformationally flexible C-hexyl-2-bromoresorcinarene and aromatic N-oxides: solid-state, solution and computational studies

2018

Host–guest complexes of C-hexyl-2-bromoresorcinarene (BrC6) with twelve potential aromatic N-oxide guests were studied using single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and 1H NMR spectroscopy. In the solid state, of the nine obtained X-ray crystal structures, eight were consistent with the formation of BrC6-N-oxide endo complexes. The lone exception was from the association between 4-phenylpyridine N-oxide and BrC6, in that case the host forms a self-inclusion complex. BrC6, as opposed to more rigid previously studied C-ethyl-2-bromoresorcinarene and C-propyl-2-bromoresorcinarene, undergoes remarkable cavity conformational changes to host different N-oxide guests through C–H···π(host) intera…

Numerical study of soliton stability, resolution and interactions in the 3D Zakharov–Kuznetsov equation

2021

International audience; We present a detailed numerical study of solutions to the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation in three spatial dimensions. The equation is a three-dimensional generalization of the Korteweg-de Vries equation, though, not completely integrable. This equation is L-2-subcritical, and thus, solutions exist globally, for example, in the H-1 energy space. We first study stability of solitons with various perturbations in sizes and symmetry, and show asymptotic stability and formation of radiation, confirming the asymptotic stability result in Farah et al. (0000) for a larger class of initial data. We then investigate the solution behavior for different localizations and rates of de…

Solubility of Quercetin in Wines

2022

Quercetin solubility at 18 °C and 0 °C was determined in an hydroalcoholic buffer solution with pH 3.20 and in four Italian wines to study the formation of quercetin precipitate mechanism in wines. The wines selected were Barbera 2018 for the typically high content in bisulfite bleachable pigments, red Cirò 2014, for its typically high content of flavonoids, Sangiovese 2014, for the presence of quercetin deposits in bottle, and white Cirò 2018, for the absence of red pigments. All the samples were spiked with 30 mg/L quercetin. The amount of quercetin solubilized at 18 °C and 0 °C in the hydroalcoholic buffer was much lower than in wines, while that solubilised in Barbera was much higher co…

Effect of the dissolution time into an acid hydrolytic solvent to tailor electrospun nanofibrous polycaprolactone scaffolds

2017

[EN] The hydrolysis of the polycaprolactone (PCL) as a function of the dissolution time in a formic/acetic acid mixture was considered as a method for tailoring the morphology of nanofibrous PCL scaffolds. Hence the aim of this research was to establish a correlation between the dissolution time of the polymer in the acid solvent with the physicochemical properties of the electrospun nanofibrous scaffolds and their further service life behaviour. The physico-chemical properties of the scaffolds were assessed in terms of fibre morphology molar mass and thermal behaviour. A reduction of the molar mass and the lamellar thickness as well as an increase of the crystallinity degree were observed …

A highly stable and hierarchical tetrathiafulvalene-based metal organic framework with improved performance as a solid catalyst

2018

[EN] Herein we report the synthesis of a tetrathiafulvalene (TTF)-based MOF, namely MUV-2, which shows a non-interpenetrated hierarchical crystal structure with mesoporous one-dimensional channels of ca. 3 nm and orthogonal microporous channels of ca. 1 nm. This highly stable MOF (aqueous solution with pH values ranging from 2 to 11 and different organic solvents), which possesses the well-known [Fe3(¿3-O)(COO)6] secondary building unit, has proven to be an efficient catalyst for the aerobic oxidation of dibenzothiophenes.
