Taking into account the dependency on molar mass of the viscometric interaction parameter B, the modified Stockmayer-Fixman-Burchard equation ([η]/M1/2) = KΘ + C″ · A2 · M1/2 is obtained. It relates the intrinsic viscosity, [η], to the second virial coefficient, A2, and to the unperturbed dimensions parameter, KΘ, with C″ being a constant. Hereupon, KΘ can be determined from [η] and A2 data of any binary (solvent/polymer) and/or ternary (solvent 1/solvent 2/polymer) system, BPS and/or TPS. Because of the scarcity of reliable sets of [η] and A2 values mostly for TPS, the application of the above equation to obtain KΘ coefficients rests limited. This limitation can be surmounted by an A2 eval…
Die Redox-Polymerisation des Acroleins in wäßrigem Medium. Polymere acroleine. 6. Mitteilung
1957
The polymerisation of aqueous solution of acrolein by the action of redox-systems has been investigated. The influence of the temperature and the concentration of the initiator and of the monomer is described. The polymers are characterized by th…
Untersuchungen über die radikalpolymerisation von acrylamid
1954
Different methods of radical-polymerization of acrylamide in solution and in bulk are described. The γ-rays induced polymerizat…

Methacryloyloxyalkyltrimethylammonium chlorides (1a–c) with different alkyl chain lengths were synthesized and polymerized radically with 4,4′-azobis(4-cyanovalerianic acid) and K2S2O8 as initiators. With K2S2O8 as initiator, reaction orders of 0,5 and 1 with respect to initiator and monomer, were found. For the ionic monomers with longer alkyl chains the ratio of rate constants kp(2fkd/kt)0,5 was determined over a wide concentration range. It was found that with decreasing monomer concentration the ratio of rate constants increases, which is caused by a diminished termination rate because of an increased electrostatic repulsion of the ionic polymer radicals in dilute solution (increase of …
Complexes of star-shaped cationic polyelectrolytes with anionic liposomes: Towards multi-liposomal assemblies with controllable stability
2016
Abstract Complexes were formed via the electrostatic interaction between 30–50 nm anionic liposomes and a star-shaped polyelectrolyte, poly{[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethyl ammonium iodide}, having cationic arms that radiate from a silicon-based central core. The complexation was investigated with attention given to assessing the capacity of the cationic stars for the anionic liposomes (both liquid and solid); the integrity of the complexed liposomes; and the stability of the resulting star/liposome complexes in aqueous salt solutions. We have found that by changing the content of anionic groups in the liposomal membrane as well as the phase-state of membrane, the stability of star/lipos…
Synthesis and thermoresponsive properties of four arm, amphiphilic poly(tert-butyl-glycidylether)-block-polyglycidol stars
2011
Abstract A series of four arm stars with copolymer arms composed of poly(tert-butyl-glycidylether)-b-polyglycidol were prepared using a multi-step process based on anionic ring-opening polymerization. Control of the length of the arms and the number of functional (hydroxyl) reactive groups was achieved by anionic polymerization. Stars with molar masses up to 12200 g/mol were prepared. The amphiphilic character of the star structure was varied using different polyglycidol block lengths. The star structure and molar mass of the obtained stars were characterized by SEC–MALLS and NMR spectroscopy. The temperature behavior of an aqueous solution of the obtained polymers was also investigated. Th…
Enzymatic Resolution of 3-oxodicyclopentadiene on a Decagram Scale
2018
The chiral building block 3-oxodicyclopentadiene (1) can be readily resolved on a decagram scale by a short sequence consisting of (1) reduction to the corresponding endo-alcohol, (2) enzymatic oxidative resolution with a ketoreductase enzyme to give (+)-1 and the (+)-form of the endo-alcohol, and (3) reoxidation of the (+)-endo-alcohol with another ketoreductase to give (–)-1. With a selectivity factor of 310, the enantiomeric ratios of the resolved (+)-endo-alcohol and (+)-ketone are both >99:1. Both enzymatic oxidations could be performed with a at least 300:1 substrate/catalyst ratio (w/w).
Reliable and simple analytical methods for determination of citrulline and metabolically related amino acids by liquid chromatography after derivatiz…
2014
We describe the development of a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for the determination of citrulline and other amino acids relevant to intestinal diseases. The amino acids were derivatized with 9-fluorenylmethylchloroformate (FMOC-Cl) and their derivatives were separated on two different columns, a core-shell column (Halo C18) and a silica-based monolith (Chromolith Performance RP-18). The derivatization reaction was optimized with respect to pH, buffer concentration and reproducibility. The optimal derivatization conditions were achieved with 0.4 M borate buffer at pH 9.20, a constant ratio of FMOC-Cl/total amino acids (10 : 1) and 75 mM tyramine after 1 min (quenching…
ChemInform Abstract: Sequential Suzuki/Asymmetric Aldol and Suzuki/Knoevenagel Reactions under Aqueous Conditions.
2012
Here we describe for the first time a sequential Suzuki/asymmetric aldol reaction. Such sequential approach was achieved through the combined use of an ionic liquid supported palladium catalyst and the organocatalyst trans-4-(2,2-diphenylacetoxy)proline. Suzuki and asymmetric aldol reactions were performed under aqueous conditions. The use of a palladium catalyst under basic conditions allowed also the first example of sequential Suzuki/Knoevenagel reaction. Reactions were carried out under aqueous conditions and products were isolated in good to high yields and, in the case of the Suzuki/aldol reaction, with diastereoselectivities up to 91:9 and enantioselectivities up to at least 99 %.

Abstract In order to evaluate the distribution of molecular oxygen in biological systems, the oxygen solubility (ml/ml atm) at 37 °C in aqueous solutions of thirty organic substances with different concentrations was measured by the classical Van Slyke principle. The oxygen solubility always (with the exception of hemoglobin) decreases exponentially with increasing concentration of the respective substance. In all cases this behavior is described highly significant by a simple empiric exponential function, when the substance concentration as well as the oxygen solubility of pure water is given. The influence of one substance on oxygen solubility contributes additively to the over-all solubi…
