Asymptotic Mean-Value Formulas for Solutions of General Second-Order Elliptic Equations
2022
Abstract We obtain asymptotic mean-value formulas for solutions of second-order elliptic equations. Our approach is very flexible and allows us to consider several families of operators obtained as an infimum, a supremum, or a combination of both infimum and supremum, of linear operators. The families of equations that we consider include well-known operators such as Pucci, Issacs, and k-Hessian operators.

Gradient nonlinear elliptic systems driven by a (p,q)-laplacian operator
2017
In this paper, using variational methods and critical point theorems, we prove the existence of multiple weak solutions for a gradient nonlinear Dirichlet elliptic system driven by a (p, q)-Laplacian operator.

Transition-edge sensors for particle-induced X-ray emission spectrometry
2018
A transition-edge sensor array has been applied to particle-induced X-ray emission. We have characterized the detector for quantitative analysis and obtained minimum detection limit over two orders of magnitude better compared to a silicon drift detector. We have also studied chemical effects in analysis of Ti, TiO2 and TiN using proton and heavy ion beams. A chemical shift for TiO2 was observed in proton measurements, and relative multiple ionization X-ray satellite line intensities changed between metallic Ti and other compounds with heavy ions. Detection of low energy X-rays down to 0.5 keV was achieved by installing a polycapillary lens in front of the transition-edge sensor array in ex…
Partnership formation and dissolution over the life course: applying sequence analysis and event history analysis in the study of recurrent events
2015
We present two types of approach to the analysis of recurrent events for discretely measured data, and show how these methods can complement each other when analysing co-residential partnership histories. Sequence analysis is a descriptive tool that gives an overall picture of the data and helps to find typical and atypical patterns in histories. Event history analysis is used to make conclusions about the effects of covariates on the timing and duration of the partnerships. As a substantive question, we studied how family background and childhood socio-emotional characteristics were related to later partnership formation and stability in a Finnish cohort born in 1959. We found that high se…
Creating a National Digital Learning Environment for Enhancing University Teachers' Pedagogical Expertise - The Case UNIPS
2019
This article analyses the design, implementation, and evaluation of a nation-wide project to create a common digital solution for university teaching staff’s pedagogical training in Finland. During three years, eight universities collaborated in developing an online learning platform called UNIPS, the University Pedagogical Support system. The areas to develop were A) a learning platform based on technical design principles, B) pedagogical principles, and C) broadening the scope of offered studies. The results have been promising. With a carefully planned timetable, all participating universities were able to produce, test, and offer UNIPS modules in collaboration with other universities on…
Degradation of Lincomycin in aqueous medium: coupling of solar photocatalysis and membrane separation
2005
Abstract The photocatalytic oxidation of a common antibiotic, the lincomycin was carried out in aqueous suspensions of polycrystalline TiO 2 Degussa P25 irradiated by sunlight. In order to improve the performance of the lincomycin degradation a hybrid system consisting of a solar photoreactor with the photocatalyst in suspension coupled with a membrane module, used to confine both photocatalyst and pollutants in the reaction environment, was tested. A preliminary study was carried out in order to determine some kinetics parameters of the drug photodegradation. The influence of initial substrate concentration on the lincomycin photooxidation rate was investigated. The photooxidation rate fol…
TiO2-based photocatalysts impregnated with metallo-porphyrins employed for degradation of 4-nitrophenol in aqueous solutions: role of metal and macro…
2007
Photodegradation of organic compounds in water solutions by means of economically advantageous and environment-friendly processes is a topic of growing interest. In recent years a great attention has been devoted to TiO2-based photocatalysts for the oxidative degradation of various organic pollutants. In this context, we have prepared new photo-catalytic polycrystalline TiO2 systems impregnated with sensitizers, i.e., copper, iron or manganese porphyrins, and investigated their photoactivity for 4-nitrophenol oxidation compared with that of bare TiO2. A significant improvement of the photoreactivity was observed in the case of TiO2 impregnated with copper porphyrin, while only a slight bene…
