Surface charge fine tuning of reversed-phase/weak anion-exchange type mixed-mode stationary phases for milder elution conditions.

A series of new mixed-mode reversed-phase/weak anion-exchange (RP/WAX) phases have been synthesized by immobilization of N-undecenyl-3-α-aminotropane onto thiol-modified silica gel by thiol-ene click chemistry and subsequent introduction of acidic thiol-endcapping functionalities of different type and surface densities. Click chemistry allowed to adjust a controlled surface concentration of the RP/WAX ligand in such a way that a sufficient quantity of residual thiols remained unmodified which have been capped by thiol click with either 3-butenoic acid or allylsulfonic acid as co-ligands. Organic solvent desorption from two tegafur polymorphs.

Desorption behavior of 8 different solvents from α and β tegafur (5-fluoro-1-(tetrahydro-2-furyl)uracil) has been studied in this work. Solvent desorption from samples stored at 95% and 50% relative solvent vapor pressure was studied in isothermal conditions at 30 °C. The results of this study demonstrated that: solvent desorption rate did not differ significantly for both phases; solvent desorption in all cases occurred faster from samples with the largest particle size; and solvent desorption in most cases occurred in two steps. Fishery by-products are rich in biologically active substances and the use of green and efficient extraction methods to recover these high-added-value compounds is of particular importance. In this study, head, skin and viscera of rainbow trout and sole were used as the target matrices and accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) (45–55 °C, 15 min, pH 5.2–6.8, 103.4 bars) and pulsed electric fields (PEF) (1–3 kV/cm, 123–300 kJ/kg, 15–24 h) were applied as extraction technologies. The results showed that ASE and PEF significantly increased the protein extract efficiency of the fish by-products (p < 0.05) by up to 80%. Betacyanins as phenol antioxidants. Chemistry and mechanistic aspects of the lipoperoxyl radical-scavenging activity in solution and liposomes.

Reaction kinetics of betanin and its aglycone betanidin towards peroxyl radicals generated from the azo-initiated oxidation of methyl linoleate in methanol, and of a heterogeneous aqueous/soybean phosphatidylcholine liposomal system, were studied by monitoring formation of linoleic acid hydroperoxides and consumption of the pigments. Betanin was a weak retarder in methanol, and an effective chain breaking antioxidant in the liposomal model, indicating that kinetic solvent effects and partition in lipid bilayers may affect its activity. Solvent-free microwave-assisted extraction of polyphenols from olive tree leaves: Antioxidant and antimicrobial properties

International audience; Response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural networks (ANN) were evaluated and compared in order to decide which method was the most appropriate to predict and optimize total phenolic content (TPC) and oleuropein yields in olive tree leaf (Olea europaea) extracts, obtained after solvent-free microwave- assisted extraction (SFMAE). The SFMAE processing conditions were: microwave irradiation power 250-350 W, extraction time 2-3 min, and the amount of sample 5-10 g. Cellulose‑copper as bio-supported recyclable catalyst for the clickable azide-alkyne [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction in water.

Abstract Naturally-occurring cellulose has been employed as a bio-support macromolecule for the immobilization of either copper(I) or copper(II) ions in order to click azide and alkyne derivatives in water. Under such a click regime, 1,4-disubstitued-1,2,3-triazoles were obtained regioselectively in excellent yields at room temperature. The reaction work-up is simple and the bio-heterogeneous catalyst that has been fully characterized by AAS, SEM, EDX and FT-IR can be easily separated and reused at least five times without any significant decrease in its activity and selectivity, particularly in the case of the very stable CuI-Cellulose.

Bile acid–cysteamine conjugates: Structural properties, gelation, and toxicity evaluation

Abstract Design, synthesis, and characterization of six novel bile acid–cysteamine conjugates together with investigation of their structural studies, gelation properties, and preliminary toxicity evaluation, are reported. Solid state properties of selected compounds were studied by means of X-ray diffraction and 13C CPMAS NMR spectroscopy. N-(2-thioethyl)-3α,7α,12α-trihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amide was shown to exhibit (pseudo)polymorphism, and a single crystal structure of its non-stoichiometric hydrate is reported herein. Chromatographic separation of chlorthalidone enantiomers using β-cyclodextrins as chiral additives

Different beta-cyclodextrins have been tested as chiral additives in the mobile phase for the chromatographic analysis of chlorthalidone enantiomers in a C18 LiChrospher (125 x 4 mm I.D.) column. The effect on enantioresolution of different parameters was studied: composition of the mobile phase (percentage of organic solvent, type of buffer and pH), mobile phase flow-rate, and type and concentration of beta-cyclodextrin. A 25:75 mixture of methanol and 0.1 M phosphate buffer, pH 4, containing 2% triethylamine (v/v), and 12.5 mM beta-cyclodextrin, at a flow-rate of 0.8 ml/min, was found to be the best option for the resolution of chlorthalidone enantiomers. We report the Soret absorption spectra (500-350 nm) of the cyanomet derivatives of human hemoglobin and horse myoglobin, in the temperature range 300-20 K and in two different solvents (65% v/v glycerol-water or 65% v/v ethylene glycol-water).
