Dynamics of surface of lipid membranes: theoretical considerations and the ESR experiment.

2016

The effect of the surface layer of model membranes on their physical properties was discussed in this paper. The research involved a physical ESR experiment with the use of spin probes and computer simulation based on the Monte Carlo technique. Liposomes formed during the process of sonication of lecithin were scanned in an ESR spectrometer. The membrane surface layer model, represented by the system of electric dipoles arranged in rectangular or hexagonal matrices, was studied. The final states of computer simulations were presented as textures. It was found that in the gel phase some ordered domain structures are formed, while in the liquid–crystal phase we got complex textures comprising…

Quantitative optical analysis of filler dispersion degree in MWCNT-epoxy nanocomposite

2012

Recently developed methodology of quantitative analysis based on optical analysis of filler particles' area distributions is applied now to estimate the dispersion efficiency of multiwall carbon nanotubes in nanocomposite prepared by solution intercalation method. Experimental parameters of dispersing (temperature, duration and power level of ultrasonication) were optimized and the most effective experimental procedure was determined. The methodology of determination of dispersion parameter is proved by indirect method of light transmittance experiments. The nanocomposite specimens having lower dispersion parameter represented the highest transmittance over the nanocomposite specimens. 2011…

Acoustically driven photon antibunching in nanowires.

2011

The oscillating piezoelectric field of a surface acoustic wave (SAW) is employed to transport photoexcited carriers, as well as to spatially control exciton recombination in GaAs-based nanowires (NWs) on a subns time scale. The experiments are carried out in core-shell NWs transferred to a SAW delay line on a LiNbO(3) crystal. Carriers generated in the NW by a focused laser spot are acoustically transferred to a second location, leading to the remote emission of subns light pulses synchronized with the SAW phase. The dynamics of the carrier transport, investigated using spatially and time-resolved photoluminescence, is well-reproduced by computer simulations. The high-frequency contactless …

Generation of narrowband antisymmetric lamb waves using a formed laser source in the ablative regime

2007

A formed laser source, using a four-element lenticular array, is used in the ablative regime to generate select, narrowband, acoustic plate waves. The arrangement of the array produces acoustical signals that have frequencies compatible with the response of the broadband capacitive air-coupled transducer used in this study. A simplified concept is presented to explain the effect of a line array source on the frequency content of acoustic waves. The analytical model for a point pulse surface displacement is derived from the point load solution to Lamb's problem. The point pulse displacement elements of a line array source are summed mathematically, taking into account all applicable propagat…

Effect of several electrolytes on the rheopectic behaviour of concentrated soy lecithin dispersions

2005

Abstract Concentrated dispersions of soy lecithin (60 g/L) prepared by sonication-freezing–unfreezing method show a non-newtonian behaviour and a significant rheopexy. Shear stress versus shear rate plots shows a loop hysteresis area, which have been studied in soy lecithin dispersions prepared with aqueous solutions of various electrolytes (NaCl, CaCl2, MgCl2 and AlCl3) with concentrations in the range 10−5 to 10−2 mol/L. Also we have studied the effect of different pH on soy lecithin dispersions. The results have revealed a very sensitive influence of nature, valence and concentration of the respective cations and the pH value on the loop hysteresis area values. It seems to indicate that …

Alhydrogel® adjuvant, ultrasonic dispersion and protein binding: A TEM and analytical study

2011

Aluminium-based vaccine adjuvants have been in use since the 1920s. Aluminium hydroxide (alum) that is the chemical basis of Alhydrogel, a widely used adjuvant, is a colloid that binds proteins to the particular surface for efficient presentation to the immune system during the vaccination process. Using conventional TEM and cryo-TEM we have shown that Alhydrogel can be finely dispersed by ultrasonication of the aqueous suspension. Clusters of ultrasonicated aluminium hydroxide micro-fibre crystals have been produced (∼ 10-100 nm), that are significantly smaller than those present the untreated Alhydrogel (∼ 2-12 μm). However, even prolonged ultrasonication did not produce a homogenous susp…

Development of a Multifunctional Bioerodible Nanocomposite Containing Metronidazole and Curcumin to Apply on L-PRF Clot to Promote Tissue Regeneratio…

2020

Teeth extractions are often followed by alveolar bone reabsorption, although an adequate level of bone is required for reliable rehabilitations by dental implants. Leukocyte and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) has been widely applied in regenerative procedures and with antibiotic and antioxidant agents could play an essential role in hard and soft tissue healing. In this work, a nanocomposite (Sponge-C-MTR) consisting of a hyaluronate-based sponge loaded with metronidazole (MTR) and nanostructured lipid carriers containing curcumin (CUR-NLC) was designed to be wrapped in the L-PRF&trade

A new procedure for the Antioxidant capacity dpph assessment in small samples.

2018

The antioxidant capacity of a substance is its ability to prevent or slow down oxidation. This reaction is a transfer of electrons. The molecule catching electrons is the oxidative agent and the molecule giving electrons is the reducing agent. Oxidative stress is toxic for the cells, and it can be limited by different pathways: the inhibition of enzymes responsible of the production of oxidative species, the synthesis, activation or stabilization of antioxidant enzymes, and finally by direct scavenging of radical species. In living organisms, especially in association to the respiration process, free radicals are commonly produced. Antioxidant are naturally present to prevent damages, and t…

Microparticles derived from marine sponge collagen (SCMPs): preparation, characterization and suitability for dermal delivery of all-trans retinol.

2002

Abstract Collagen microparticles were prepared using marine sponge collagen. For this purpose a previous method by Rossler et al. (J. Microencapsul. 12 (1995) 49) of emulsification and cross-linking of native calf collagen was modified. The modified method for sponge collagen microparticles (SCMPs) achieved a yield of 10%. Scanning electromicroscopic photographs showed spherical particles with a diameter of 120–300 nm and photon correlation spectroscopic measurements indicated particle size range from 126 (±2.9) to 2179 (±342) nm. This broad size distribution was caused by some agglomerates that could not be destroyed by ultrasonication. The surface charge was measured as a function of pH. …
