"There Is No Book, No Matter How Bad It Is, That Does Not Have Something Good in It": The Circulation of the Novels by Sebastiano Erizzo and Niccolò …

2019

This paper provides a first consideration of the dissemination and impact of the novels by Sebastiano Erizzo and Niccolò Granucci in the Spanish Golden Age, focusing on two of their main works, Le sei giornate (1567) and La piacevol notte et lieto giorno (1574), respectively. The characteristics of the identified copies, some coincidences with texts by Lope and Cervantes, and the information collected on the circulation of these two works, whose focus on morality may have favoured their dissemination, lead to the suggestion that their novels had a certain influence on Spanish literature. These circumstances should encourage Hispanists to turn their eyes towards the novels of Niccolò Granucc…

Investigations on Tuta absoluta (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae): larval infestation on the tomato cultivated in open field and evaluation of five essentia…

2019

Abstract The tomato miner Tuta absoluta Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is a Neotropical species, which cause serious damages to tomato in spread areas. It appeared in 2008 in Italy, where it seriously threatened tomato production both in greenhouse and open field cultivations. In this work a study on infestation by this leafminer on leaves was conducted in an organic cultivation of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) "Pizzutello" variety in Sicily (Italy), and the insecticidal activity of 5 essential oils (EOs) on T. absoluta was evaluated in laboratory. EOs of basil, cypress, laurel, peppermint and Spanish oregano were used against 3rd- and 4th-instar larvae to assess contact effect…

The Gifts to Sicilian Sanctuaries from Spanish Viceroys and Local Nobility

2018

In seventeenth-century Sicily, worship, and the devotion that the noble and aristocratic classes in particular felt for the island’s main sanctuaries and the images that were venerated in them, stimulated the production of the decorative arts. Spanish viceroys and vicereines, and noblemen and women, commissioned many objects in order to offer them to the most important Sicilian sanctuaries as a sign of profound devotion and political power. The strong, intense presence of the Spanish nobility in Sicily explains the Spanish stylistic influences, which are manifested in the Sicilian production of decorative art objects, and especially in jewellery, an aspect that went hand in hand with fashio…

Gloria Fuertes: sconfinare

2022

2019

The object of the present work is to observe, from an enactive position, not only the language, but above all the learning of Spanish as second language in Italian students. And, to carry out this analytical operation, we will use the experimental learning model of Kolb (1984), which considers learning a process driven by experience and requires, for its correct realization, the man to interact with his environment.

2019

The death of Charles II of Habsburg and the designation of Philip of Anjou as the legitimate heir caused - in any territory belonging to the Spanish monarchy - the definition of new political languages and the creation of new networks of political and social relationships. This happened also in the kingdom of Sicily, where the internal and international dynamics were strictly connected. In this context, the role played by the island was not passive, but allowed – respecting the hierarchies of power – to build networks of relationships, to achieve specific goals and to rethink the participation of the Kingdom within the larger context of Spanish monarchy. The paper aims to highlight as well …

Guerra e finanza nella Sicilia del XVII secolo. La partecipazione del Regno alla politica internazionale della monarchia spagnola

2022

In recent decades, the abandonment of the teleological perspective concerning the formation of the modern state has made it possible to rethink the nature of the European monarchies between the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries and to read the center/periphery pair no longer in antithetical terms, but of integration and complementarity. If these historiographical acquisitions had significant implications in political and institutional studies, they were no less important in those lines of research that had as their focus the military sphere and its financing. The essay examines the participation of the Kingdom of Sicily in the international politics of the Spanish Monarchy, in order to un…
