A penetration depth study on the non-centrosymmetric superconductors Li2(Pd1−xPtx)3B
2008
Abstract We study the superconducting order parameter in the non-centrosymmetric compounds Li 2 (Pd 1− x Pt x ) 3 B ( x =0, 0.3, 0.7 and 1) by measuring magnetic penetration depth λ ( T ). The low temperature λ ( T ) shows a linear temperature dependence for x ⩾0.3, but follows exponential-like behavior for lower Pt contents. These findings suggest that a spin-triplet state might gradually develop with increasing x due to the broken inversion symmetry.
Cooperative Spin‐Crossover Behaviour in Polymeric 1D Fe II Coordination Compounds: [{Fe(tba) 3 }X 2 ]· n H 2 O
2007
A new family of 1D cooperative spin-crossover polymers with general formula [{Fe(tba)3}X2]·nH2O [tba = N-(4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)benzamide; X = CF3SO3–, n = 2 (1), n = 0 (4); BF4–,n = 3 (2), n = 0 (5); 4-CH3C6H4SO3–, n = 3 (3), n = 0 (6)] has been synthesised and characterised using a series of spectroscopic methods, X-ray powder diffraction, magnetic susceptibility measurements and differential scanning calorimetry. The copper analogue of 1, [{Cu(tba)3}(CF3SO3)2]·3H2O (7), has also been synthesised and its crystal structure solved at 293 K. Compound 7 crystallises in the P space group. The bidentate N-(4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)benzamide ligand bridges the copper ions through the 1,2-nitrogen p…
Observation of the isospin-violating decayJ/ψ→ϕπ0f0(980)
2015
Using a sample of 1.31 x 10(9) J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the decays J/psi -> phi pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) and J/psi -> phi pi(0)pi(0)pi(0) are investigated. The isospin- violating decay J/psi -> phi pi(0)f(0)(980) with f(0)(980)-> pi pi is observed for the first time. The width of the f(0)(980) obtained from the dipion mass spectrum is found to be much smaller than the world average value. In the pi(0)f(0)(980) mass spectrum, there is evidence of f(1)(1285) production. By studying the decay J/psi ->eta', the branching fractions of eta' -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) and eta' -> pi(0)pi(0)pi(0), as well as their ratio, are also measured.
Low-temperature Ti-containing 3:2 and 2:1 mullite nanocrystals from single-phase gels
2007
Abstract TiO 2 -containig single-phase gels with (Al 2 O 3 + TiO 2 )/(SiO 2 ) molar ratios 3/2 and 2/1 were prepared by gelling mixtures of aluminium nitrate, tetraethylorthosilicate and titanium isopropoxide. Gels were fast heated at several temperatures up to 1100 °C. Dried and heated gels were characterized by differential thermal analysis (DTA), magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS-NMR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and scanning and transmission electron microscopies (SEM and TEM). Coupled DTA and XRD results of gels fast heated at 900 °C showed the crystallisation of two mullites as well as a small amount of alumina-silica spinel. 27 Al NMR spectra showed the format…
Conversion coefficients of the isomeric state in 72Br
2010
In order to determine the Gamow‐Teller strength distribution for the N = Z nucleus 72Kr an experiment was performed with a Total Absorption Gamma Spectrometer. To fully accomplish this task it is crucial to determine the multipolarity of the low energy transitions as the spin‐parity of the daughter ground state has been debated. This is done by experimental determination of the conversion coefficients. Preliminary results for the multipolarity and conversion coefficients of the transition connecting the isomeric state at 101 keV with the 72Br ground state are presented.
Minimal invasive posterior correction of Lenke 5C idiopathic scoliosis: comparative analysis of minimal invasive vs. open surgery
2019
Introduction Surgical management of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in spite of usually favourable outcomes is still a major operation. Therefore, efforts are being undertaken to minimalize the procedure, reduce the surgical trauma and postoperative convalescence. The study was designed to compare posterior minimal invasive surgery using navigation based on intraoperative 3D imaging and standard open instrumented fusion in Lenke 5C idiopathic scoliosis treatment. Materials and methods From eight patients with Lenke 5C curves planned for posterior correction and instrumented fusion, four were treated with minimally invasive and four had open procedure. Operation length, estimated blood loss,…
Pulse EPR methods for studying chemical and biological samples containing transition metals
2006
This review discusses the application of pulse EPR to the characterization of disordered systems, with an emphasis on samples containing transition metals. Electron nuclear double-resonance (ENDOR), electron-spin-echo envelope-modulation (ESEEM), and double electron-electron resonance (DEER) methodologies are outlined. The theory of field modulation is outlined, and its application is illustrated with DEER experiments. The simulation of powder spectra in EPR is discussed, and strategies for optimization are given. The implementation of this armory of techniques is demonstrated on a rich variety of chemical systems: several porphyrin derivatives that are found in proteins and used as model s…
Dose Responsive Effects of Subcutaneous Pentosan Polysulfate Injection in Mucopolysaccharidosis Type VI Rats and Comparison to Oral Treatment
2014
Background We previously demonstrated the benefits of daily, oral pentosan polysulfate (PPS) treatment in a rat model of mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) type VI. Herein we compare these effects to once weekly, subcutaneous (s.c.) injection. The bioavailability of injected PPS is greater than oral, suggesting better delivery to difficult tissues such as bone and cartilage. Injected PPS also effectively treats osteoarthritis in animals, and has shown success in osteoarthritis patients. Methodology/principal findings One-month-old MPS VI rats were given once weekly s.c. injections of PPS (1, 2 and 4 mg/kg, human equivalent dose (HED)), or daily oral PPS (4 mg/kg HED) for 6 months. Serum inflammato…

Theoretical prediction of nuclear magnetic shieldings and indirect spin-spin coupling constants in 1,1-, cis-, and trans-1,2-difluoroethylenes.
2014
A theoretical prediction of nuclear magnetic shieldings and indirect spin-spin coupling constants in 1,1-, cis- and trans-1,2-difluoroethylenes is reported. The results obtained using density functional theory (DFT) combined with large basis sets and gauge-independent atomic orbital calculations were critically compared with experiment and conventional, higher level correlated electronic structure methods. Accurate structural, vibrational, and NMR parameters of difluoroethylenes were obtained using several density functionals combined with dedicated basis sets. B3LYP/6-311++G(3df,2pd) optimized structures of difluoroethylenes closely reproduced experimental geometries and earlier reported b…
