Deep Learning Estimation of 10-2 and 24-2 Visual Field Metrics Based on Thickness Maps from Macula OCT.
2021
Purpose To develop deep learning (DL) systems estimating visual function from macula-centered spectral-domain (SD) OCT images. Design Evaluation of a diagnostic technology. Participants A total of 2408 10-2 visual field (VF) SD OCT pairs and 2999 24-2 VF SD OCT pairs collected from 645 healthy and glaucoma subjects (1222 eyes). Methods Deep learning models were trained on thickness maps from Spectralis macula SD OCT to estimate 10-2 and 24-2 VF mean deviation (MD) and pattern standard deviation (PSD). Individual and combined DL models were trained using thickness data from 6 layers (retinal nerve fiber layer [RNFL], ganglion cell layer [GCL], inner plexiform layer [IPL], ganglion cell-IPL […
The Heidelberg retina tomograph ancillary study to the European glaucoma prevention study: study design and baseline factors.
2013
Purpose: To describe the study design and baseline factors of the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph ancillary study within the EGPS. Furthermore, to examine the relationship between HRT optic disc topographic measurements and baseline demographic and ocular factors. Methods: Four hundred and eighty-nine ocular hypertensive participants were included. Each participant completed HRT imaging at least annually. The associations between HRT measurements and IOP, central corneal thickness (CCT), baseline photographic estimates of vertical CDR ratio (CDR), asymmetry between the two eyes in CDR ratio and baseline visual field indices were assessed using regression analysis. Results: Associations between …
Impact of rectal distension on prostate CBCT-based positioning assessed with 6 degrees-of-freedom couch
2018
International audience; Introduction: Prostate requires a daily correction of its 3-dimensional position in relation with rectal distension. In this study, we sought to determine whether rectal distension with respect to the rectal behavior might have an impact on prostate translations and/or rotations during prostate image guided radiation therapy using a 6 degrees-of-freedom (DOF) couch. Methods and materials: We reviewed the data from 39 patients with localized prostate cancer treated with protracted external radiation therapy using a 6 DOF couch. Before each fraction, a kilovoltage cone beam computed tomography (kV-CBCT) scan was performed. The automatic fusion algorithm was set to fuse …
Echocardiographic reference ranges for normal left ventricular 2D strain: results from the EACVI NORRE study
2017
International audience; Aims - To obtain the normal ranges for 2D echocardiographic (2DE) measurements of left ventricular (LV) strain from a large group of healthy volunteers accounting for age and gender. Methods and results - A total of 549 (mean age: 45.6 ± 13.3 years) healthy subjects were enrolled at 22 collaborating institutions of the Normal Reference Ranges for Echocardiography (NORRE) study. 2DE data sets have been analysed with a vendor-independent software package allowing homogeneous measurements irrespective of the echocardiographic equipment used to acquire the data sets. The lowest expected values of LV strains and twist calculated as ± 1.96 standard deviations from the mean…
Interobserver variability in rectum contouring in high-dose-rate brachytherapy for prostate cancer: A multi-institutional prospective analysis
2017
PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the interobserver variability (KW) of rectum contouring, and its dosimetric consequences, for high-dose-rate brachytherapy in patients with prostate cancer across multiple institutions. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Five radiation oncologists contoured rectums in 10 patients on transperineal ultrasound image sets after establishing a delineation consensus. The D-0.1cc, D-1cc, and D-2cc rectum volume parameters were determined. The mean, standard deviation, and range of each dose-volume histogram parameter were evaluated for each patient. The JOY was determined using the coefficient of variation, and the dosimetric impacts on the total dose were analyz…
Increased cortical curvature reflects white matter atrophy in individual patients with early multiple sclerosis
2014
Objective White matter atrophy occurs independently of lesions in multiple sclerosis. In contrast to lesion detection, the quantitative assessment of white matter atrophy in individual patients has been regarded as a major challenge. We therefore tested the hypothesis that white matter atrophy (WMA) is present at the very beginning of multiple sclerosis (MS) and in virtually each individual patient. To find a new sensitive and robust marker for WMA we investigated the relationship between cortical surface area, white matter volume (WMV), and whole-brain-surface-averaged rectified cortical extrinsic curvature. Based on geometrical considerations we hypothesized that cortical curvature increa…
Early-life weight gain, prematurity, and asthma development.
2014
Early childhood asthma is a clinical syndrome, the development and clinical manifestations of which result from a complex interplay among airway anatomy, physiology, and inflammation. Although multiple phenotypes of early childhood wheezing and asthma have been described, the mechanisms that promote and differentiate these phenotypes remain poorly understood. Over the past decade, substantial understanding has emerged as to the early-life factors that influence childhood asthma development. One area of great interest has been the relationships between patterns of fetal and infant growth, subsequent wheezing, and asthma. Although several studies strongly suggest that intrauterine growth patt…
The decision process in forward-masked intensity discrimination: evidence from molecular analyses.
2009
In a two-interval forced-choice intensity discrimination task presenting a fixed increment, the level of the forward masker in interval 1 and interval 2 was sampled independently from the same normal distribution on each trial. Mean and standard deviation of the distribution were varied. Correlational analyses of the trial-by-trial data revealed different decision strategies depending on the relation between mean masker level and standard level. If the two levels were identical, listeners tended to select the interval containing the higher-level masker, behaving like an energy detector at the output of a temporal window of integration. For mean masker level higher than the standard level, m…

Minimal important change and minimum clinically important difference values of the KOOS-12 after total knee arthroplasty
2021
Abstract Purpose The minimal important change (minimal amount of change vs. baseline that a patient recognizes as a clinical change) and minimum clinically important difference (smallest difference between two measurements that are deemed important by patients) are important values to evaluate the clinical relevance of changes over time and differences between groups. This study aims to establish these values for the KOOS-12 at 1 year postoperatively. Methods KOOS-12 scores were calculated from the full-length KOOS completed by patients undergoing primary TKA preoperatively and at 1 year follow up. Minimal important change (MIC) values were estimated using the anchor-based predictive modeli…
