An SVM Ensamble Approach to Detect Irony and Stereotype Spreaders on Twitter

2022

The problem we address in this work is classifying whether a Twitter user has spread Irony and Stereotype or not. We used a text vectorization layer to generate Bag-Of-Words sequences. Then such sequences are passed to three different text classifiers (Decision Tree, Convolutional Neural Network, Naive Bayes). Our final classifier is an SVM. To test and validate our approach we used the dataset provided for the author profiling task organized by PAN@CLEF 2022. Our team (missino) submitted the predictions on the provided test set to participate at the shared task. Over several cross fold validation our approach was able to reach a maximum binary accuracy on the best validation split equal to…

Using Tic-Tac software to reduce anxiety-related behaviour in adults with autism and learning difficulties during waiting periods: A pilot study

2013

Deficits in the perception of time and processing of changes across time are commonly observed in individuals with autism. This pilot study evaluated the efficacy of the use of the software tool Tic-Tac, designed to make time visual, in three adults with autism and learning difficulties. This research focused on applying the tool in waiting situations where the participants exhibited anxiety-related behaviour. The intervention followed a baseline and intervention (AB) design, and a partial interval recording procedure was used to code the presence of stereotypes, nervous utterances, wandering or other examples of nervousness during the selected waiting situations. The results showed that t…

Predictors of stigmatizing attitudes towards people with mental disorders in a general population in Finland

2010

For planning effective and well-targeted initiatives to reduce stigma, we need to identify which factors are associated with stigmatizing of people with mental disorders. This study examined how well a combination of variables predicts stigmatizing attitudes and discrimination in a general population.A survey questionnaire was sent to 10,000 persons aged 15-80 years residing in western Finland. Attitudes were measured using a scale consisting of negative stereotypes about people with depression and stereotypical beliefs connected with mental problems, while discrimination was measured by a social distance scale. Predictors included demographic variables, mental health resources, personal exp…

Should the government pay more to public sector employees? Impact of subjective, stereotypicalwage and core self-evaluations on job satisfaction and …

2018

There are many stereotypes about work in public sector. It is supposedly more stable, less hectic but in the same time offers smaller wages in comparison to a work in private sector. But does it provide more satisfaction to employees? The current study compares work satisfaction (Warr, Cook, & Wall, 1979) and subjective Well-being (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985) as dependent on subjective and objective wage evaluations (Brown, Gardner, Oswald, & Qian, 2008; Walczak, 2017) and Core Self-Evaluations (Judge, Locke, & Durham, 1997; Walczak & Derbis, 2015). On a sample of N=625 employees (of which 18%; n=118 were employed in public sector) an impact of subjective (rather than objective…

España-África: Viajeros alemanes ante fronteras geográficas y mentales

2014
