Antiparasitic Effect of Stilbene and Terphenyl Compounds against Trypanosoma cruzi Parasites

2021

AbstractBackgroundChagas disease, also known as American trypanosomiasis, is a potentially life-threatening illness caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. No progress in the treatment of this pathology has been made since Nifurtimox was introduced more than fifty years ago and is considered very aggressive and may cause several adverse effects. Currently, this drug has severe limitations, including high frequency of undesirable side effects and limited efficacy and availability and the research to discover new drugs for the treatment of Chagas disease is imperative. Many drugs available in the market are natural products as found in nature or compounds designed based on the str…

Nanocarriers for antioxidant resveratrol: formulation approach, vesicle self-assembly and stability evaluation.

2013

In this work we studied various nanoformulations of resveratrol in phospholipid vesicles. Conventional phophatidylcholine liposomes were prepared and characterized in parallel with PEVs (Penetration Enhancer-containing Vesicles) obtained by adding one of eight selected amphiphilic penetration enhancers (PEs; 0.2% w/v; HLB range 1-16) to the composition. All vesicles were around 100 nm, negatively charged (∼-30 mV) and able to incorporate resveratrol in good yields (>74%). The structure and the lamellar self-organization of the vesicles were investigated by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Small and Wide Angle X-ray Scattering (SWAXS). These analyses showed that the lamellarity of …

Mild Hydrocracking of Vacuum Gasoil over NiMo-Beta Zeolite Catalysts: The Role of the Location of the NiMo Phases and the Crystallite Size of the Zeo…

1998

Abstract Mild hydrocracking composite catalysts based on NiMo/γ-Al2O3-Beta zeolite have been prepared and the influence of the location of the NiMo phases has been studied. A good hydrocracking activity and the highest HDS conversion was found during the hydrocracking of a vacuum gasoil with the composite catalyst where the NiMo is located on the alumina component and then mixed with the zeolite in a proportion of 1 : 1 by weight. The crystal size of the beta zeolite had a significative influence on the catalytic behaviour, being better the smaller the crystallite size is. The small crystallite beta-based catalyst displayed a higher hydrocracking activity than conventional USY and silica-al…

Clean method for the simultaneous determination of propyphenazone and caffeine in pharmaceuticals by flow injection Fourier transform infrared spectr…

1997

A procedure is proposed for the simultaneous FTIR determination of propyphenazone (PFZ) and caffeine (CAF) in pharmaceuticals. The method involves the dissolution of the active principles in CHCl 3 , followed by filtration of sample solutions to remove the excipients. PFZ is then determined by absorbance measurements at 1595 cm - 1 , using a baseline established between 2000 and 890 cm - 1 , and CAF by using the first-derivative values at 1712 cm - 1 , using solutions of PFZ and CAF for external calibration. The method was applied in both the stopped-flow and flow-injection modes, providing precise and accurate results for the analysis of real samples. The incorporation of a distillation un…

Preparation and Photochemistry of Dendrimers with Isolated Stilbene Chromophores

2005

In addition to the model compounds 4a and 4b, the dendrimers 11 and 14 with trans-stilbene chromophores in the core and on the periphery of the dendrons were prepared and their photochemistry was studied in solution and in neat films. Due to the flexibility of the arms, intramolecular and intermolecular CC bonds are formed on irradiation. Thus, the generation of nanoparticles, which represent small oligomers, is much more likely than for the cross-linking of rigid, cross-conjugated stilbenoid dendrimers. The photoreactions in solution were studied by UV and NMR spectroscopy, the transformation of the films was studied by AFM. (© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 200…

Poly(propylene imine) dendrimers functionalized with stilbene or 1,4-distyrylbenzene chromophores

2007

Abstract Two generations of dendritic nanoparticles were prepared, which contain ( E )-stilbene or ( E , E )-1,4-distyrylbenzene chromophores in the 4 or 8 terminal positions of the propylene imine dendrons. The compounds show a highly efficient photoreactivity. On prolonged irradiation all stilbenoid chromophores were destroyed by oligomerization (crosslinking) and the typical absorption and fluorescence of the chromophores disappeared completely.

Comparison of Alkoxy-substituted 4,4´-Distyrylbiphenyls and the Corresponding 4,4´-Distyrylbenzenes

2008

Abstract Configurationally highly pure (E,E)-4,4´-bis(styryl)biphenyls 2a - e were obtained by Siegrist reactions of 4,4´-dimethylbiphenyl 3 and alkoxy-substituted benzaldimines (4a - e). DSC measurements have indicated different crystalline modifications of these conjugated compounds. The stilbenoid chromophores of 2a - e are compared to the stilbenoid chromophores in the OPV series, which have a similar length of conjugation. The intense fluorescence and the high transparency in the visible region are promising properties for an application of the donor-substituted compounds 2a - e in twophoton absorption (TPA) techniques.

Synthesis of a novel ditopic ligand incorporating directly bonded 1,10-phenanthroline and 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine units

2006

Abstract The synthesis of a rigid ditopic ligand incorporating a 1,10-phenanthroline directly connected through its 3-position to the 5-position of a 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine is described. The synthesis is based on a series of palladium(0)-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions (Stille and Suzuki couplings) starting from 1,10-phenanthroline and bromo-substituted pyridines.
