On strongly measurable Kurzweil-Henstock type integrable functions

2009

We consider the integrability, with respect to the scalar Kurzweil-Henstock integral, the Kurzweil-Henstock-Pettis integral and the variational Henstock integral, of strongly measurable functions de ned as f = P1 n=1 xn [n;n+1),where (xn) belongs to a Banach space. Examples which indicate the difference between the scalar Henstock-Kurzweil integral and the Henstock- Kurzweil-Pettis integral and between the variational Henstock integral and the Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integral are given.

A characterization of strongly measurable Henstock-Kurzweil integrable functions and weakly continuous operators

2008

We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the Kurzweil–Henstock integrability of functions given by f =n=1 xnχEn , where xn belong to a Banach space and the sets (En)n are measurable and pairwise disjoint. Also weakly completely continuous operators between Banach spaces are characterized by means of scalarly Kurzweil–Henstock integrable functions

Responses of Prunus ferganensis, Prunus persica and two interspecific hybrids to moderate drought stress

2003

Prunus ferganensis (Kost. & Riab) Kov. & Kost, a close relative of the cultivated peach (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch.), is native to arid regions of central Asia and may possess traits valuable for improving drought tolerance of commercial peach varieties. One distinguishing feature of P. ferganensis is its prominent, elongated, unbranched leaf venation pattern, which behaves as a simple recessive trait in segregating populations of P. ferganensis x P. persica hybrids. To understand whether this trait could be used as a marker in breeding for drought tolerance, we investigated the association between leaf morphological and physiological parameters related to drought response in P. ferganensi…

Political risks: the “red shift” in debt sustainability analysis

2020

Political stability and economic policy uncertainty can be key determinants of sovereign debt dynamics, and we show how they can be incorporated in debt sustainability analysis. We distinguish between short-term ambiguity and long-term uncertainty about political risk factors, and using a combination of narrative scenarios and calibrated probabilistic scenarios we obtain a comprehensive heatmap of high-risk debt dynamics. We use Italy as an interesting case study and demonstrate a “red shift” in the assessment of vulnerabilities when accounting for political risks. Ignoring these risks can lead to excessive optimism and wrong decisions.

EXPLORATION, EXPLOITATION AND INCENTIVES TO INNOVATE: THE DISCIPLINING ROLE OF DEBT

2014

Extant research suggests that when compared to equity, debt financing is less conducive to innovation activities. In this paper we challenge this view by suggesting that although equity sustains innovation by allowing risk-taking and experimentation, it may also encourage the pursuit of exploration at the expense of exploitation. Under these circumstances, the stricter governance associated with debt becomes important as it stimulates managers to shift resources towards exploitation in order to mitigate risk and improve short-term pay-offs. In support of these arguments our empirical analysis shows that, while leverage has a negative impact on standard measures of innovation quantity and qu…

The Nordic expericence revisited: labour market booms and slumps since the 1990s in Finland and Sweden

2011

PurposeThis paper aims to provide an account of the unemployment performance of two Nordic countries during their recent labour market booms and slumps.Design/methodology/approachBased on the empirical models of Karanassou et al., we conduct dynamic simulation exercises and explore the determinants of unemployment.FindingsThe analysis yields two main findings. First, the capital stock was the most important determinant of the unemployment trajectory in both countries. This result appears in all periods considered: in the slump of the early 1990s and the boom of the late 1990s, as well as in the stabilisation period of the early 2000s. Second, the role of the foreign sector on the unemployme…

Spatial Autocorrelation in Econometric Land Use Models: An Overview

2021

International audience; This chapter provides an overview of the literature on econometric land use models including spatial autocorrelation. These models are useful to analyze the determinants of land use changes and to study their implications for the environment (carbon stocks, water quality, biodiversity, ecosystem services). Recent methodological advances in spatial econometrics have improved the quality of econometric models allowing them to identify more precisely the determinants of land use changes and make more accurate land use predictions. We review the current state of the literature on studies which account explicitly for spatial autocorrelation in econometric land use models …

Geochemical behaviour of rare earths in Vitis vinifera grafted onto different rootstocks and growing on several soils.

2014

The geochemical behaviour of lanthanides and yttrium (Rare Earth Elements, REEs) has been investigated mainly in geological systems where these elements represent the best proxies of processes involving the occurrence of an interface between different media. This behaviour is assessed according to features recorded in sequences of REE concentrations along the REE series normalised with respect to a reference material. In this study, the geochemical behaviour of REE was investigated in different parts of Vitis vinifera specimens grown off-soil, on soils of different nature and grafted onto several rootstocks in order to evaluate effects induced by these changes. The results indicated that ro…

REDU : revista de docencia universitaria

2009
