Introduction Changes in lifestyle contributed to an increased incidence and mortality from endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases in developing countries. The aim of this study was to evaluate the burden of these diseases as a cause of death in older women in a Brazilian city. Methods All deaths of women aged 70 years or older, occurring in Rio de Janeiro, between 2003 and 2006, were identified in the Mortality Information System, a population-based nationwide registry. Death certificates with an ICD 10 Chapter IV code (E00-E90) were selected. Mathematical modelling of social obesity epidemic in the region of Valencia, Spain

In this article, we analyse the incidence of excess weight in 24- to 65-year-old residents in the region of Valencia, Spain, and predict its behaviour in the coming years. In addition, we present some possible strategies to prevent the spread of the obesity epidemic. We use classical logistic regression analysis to find out that a sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy nutritional habits are the most important causes of obesity in the 24- to 65-year-old population in Valencia. Abstract We aimed to investigate the effects of a long-term, individualised, family-based lifestyle intervention on food consumption and nutrient intake from childhood to adolescence. We conducted an 8-year diet and physical activity intervention study in a population sample of children aged 7–9 years at baseline in 2007–2009. Body Weight, Physical Activity, and Risk of Cancer in Lynch Syndrome

Simple Summary Lifestyle modifies cancer risk in the general public. How lifestyle modifies cancer risk in individuals carrying the inherited pathogenic gene variants in DNA mismatch repair genes (Lynch syndrome) remains understudied. We conducted a retrospective study with cancer register data to investigate associations between body weight, physical activity, and cancer risk among Finnish Lynch syndrome carriers (n = 465, 54% women). The results of our study indicated that longitudinal weight gain increases cancer risk, whereas being highly physically active during adulthood could decrease cancer risk in men. Background: Kreutz et al. (2008) developed the Music-Empathizing-Music-Systemizing (ME-MS) Inventory to extend Baron-Cohen's cognitive style theory to the domain of music. We sought to confirm the ME-MS construct in a German sample and to explore these individual differences in relation to music preferences. [ES] El objetivo de este trabajo era concretar el perfil de los alumnos excelentes en la universidad, de cara a precisar modelos eficaces de funcionamiento que se pudieran generalizar y enseñar, en la medida de lo posible. Para ello se recogieron datos de varios grupos de alumnos de 1º de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia con las mejores notas de entrada de diferentes titulaciones cuyos resultados se compararon con los de alumnos de calificaciones medias.
