Internal Software Startups - A Multiple Case Study on Practices, Methods, and Success Factors

2020

Startups are often seen as drivers of innovation. In an attempt to leverage this potential, larger business organizations have founded internal startups as a subset of internal corporate ventures (ICV). These smaller organizations are intended to be more agile than the parent organization, in order to produce new service and product innovations using their own methods and practices independently of the organizational culture and methods of the parent organization. However, our understanding of ICVs is still lacking in terms of processes and success factors, and especially the more recent internal startups have scarcely been studied thus far. To approach this novel area of research, we take …

Do top- and mid-level managers view Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems success measures differently?

2006

We investigated ERP systems success measurement from the perspectives of top- and mid-level managers. Using surveys in two small Northern European countries, we aimed to determine whether differences exist between the two groups. Our results showed that there are no significant statistical differences between the two groups. The implications of the findings for both practice and research are outlined.

Patterns of successful media production

2016

While it has been acknowledged that convergence is a multidimensional phenomenon, the convergence of media production processes has received little attention from researchers so far. In this article, we address this research gap with a qualitative study of production processes in different types of media. Our starting point is that independent of the media type, common product characteristics can be identified, that promote success in the audience market. We ask whether the same is true for process characteristics; whether there are converged processes that promote audience success independent of the media type. The study is based on n = 39 interviews in the German-speaking markets. Our fi…

Timeliness of Open Data in Open Government Data Portals Through Pandemic-related Data: a long data way from the publisher to the user

2020

The paper addresses the “timeliness” of data in open government data (OGD) portals. It is one of the primary principles of open data, which is considered to be a success factor, while at the same time it is one 0f the biggest barriers that can disrupt users trust in data and even the desire to use the entire open data portal. However, assessing this aspect is a very difficult task that, in most cases, becomes an impossible for open data users. There is therefore a lack of comparative studies on the timeliness of data of different national open data portals. Unfortunately, 2020 gave the opportunity to find out this. It became easy enough to compare how long is the data path from the data hol…

Dynamic capabilities in e-health innovation: Implications for policies

2017

Abstract Objective To mitigate the effect of caregiver shortage, collaborative networks in Norwegian municipalities are exploring the possibilities provided by e-health and welfare technologies. However, extracting benefits from such technologies depends on many factors. Methods In this study, an extensive literature review is performed to compare e-health and other sectors in terms of the critical success factors in collaborative business process management. Using the dynamic capabilities view as a general theoretical lens, and a process orientation framework for operationalization, these factors are then conceptualized and validated in a cross-sectional study of cases in the Norwegian mun…

Making and breaking relationships on social media: the impacts of brand and influencer betrayals

2021

This study considers how the relationships between social media influencers, brands and individuals are intertwined on social media and analyses the spill-over effects of feelings of betrayal. An experimental design with two transgression scenarios (influencer vs. brand) was created, and 250 individuals were recruited to participate in the study. The results show that a perceived betrayal by a brand can negatively affect the perceived coolness of the social media influencer that has endorsed the brand, as well as the parasocial relationships that followers have with the influencer. Accordingly, a perceived betrayal by a social media influencer can negatively affect attitudes, trust and purc…

Critical success factors for successful globalised e-learning

2009

As we move from an information-based to a knowledge-based society, the need for reengineering, retraining and restructuring is emerging. Online programme development/enhancement requires experience and planning. Since e-learning entry requires little investments, it can be tempting to start programmes without appropriate infrastructure or planning, resulting in huge losses and in many cases closure. The new entrants can learn from the early adopters of online learning and from their experiences, both good and bad without reinventing the wheel. This paper discusses factors that must be considered and planned before venturing into e-learning. These factors are derived from discussions with fa…
