Purpose The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy and long-term survival rate of three-unit fixed partial dentures (FPDs) made from lithium disilicate-based core ceramic. Materials and methods Twenty-one three-unit FPDs were placed in 19 patients to replace single lost teeth in the esthetic area, following a study protocol that took clinical, esthetic, and radiologic aspects into consideration. Each case was reviewed at 1 week following placement, at 6 months, and then annually for 10 years. Statistical analysis was performed using Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. In vitro comparison of the retention capacity of new aesthetic brackets.

Tensile bond strength and bond failure location were evaluated in vitro for two types of aesthetic brackets (non-silanated ceramic, polycarbonate) and one stainless steel bracket, using bovine teeth as the substrate and diacrylate resin as the adhesive. The results show that metallic bracket had the highest bond strength (13.21 N) followed by the new plastic bracket (12.01 N), which does not require the use of a primer. The non-silanated ceramic bracket produced the lowest bond strength (8.88 N). The retention forces of a newly developed compomer cement (Dyract Cem), a glass ionomer cement (Ketac Cem Aplicap), and a resin cement (F21) were examined.Cemented cast gold crowns were removed along the path of insertion with a Zwick universal testing device. Objectives: Some investigations suggested common Portland cement (PC) as a substitute material for MTA for endodontic use; both MTA and PC have a similar composition. The aim of this study was to determine the surface roughness of common PC before and after the exposition to different endodontic irrigating solutions: 10% and 20% citric acid, 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic (EDTA) and 5% sodium hypochlorite. Arsenate [As(V)] and arsenite [As(III)] sorption at the solid-water interface of activated carbon impregnated with zirconyl nitrate (Zr-AC) was investigated using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and surface complexation modeling. The XAS data at the Zr K-edge suggest that the structure of the zirconyl nitrate coating is built from chains of edge-sharing ZrO8 trigonal dodecahedra bound to each other through two double hydroxyl bridges. The 8-fold coordination of each Zr atom is completed by four O atoms, which share a bit less than the two theoretically possible bidentate nitrate groups. A bio-metal-organic framework (bio-MOF) derived from the amino acid L-serine has been prepared in bulk form and evaluated as sorbent for the molecular recognition and extraction of B-vitamins. The functional pores of bio-MOF exhibit high amounts of hydroxyl groups jointly directing other supramolecular host-guest interactions thus providing the recognition of B-vitamins in fruit juices and energy drinks. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal the specific B-vitamin binding sites and the existence of multiple hydrogen bonds between these target molecules and the framework. Hypothesis: Oral insulin administration is not actually effective due to insulin rapid degradation, inactivation and digestion by proteolytic enzymes which results in low bioavailability. Grape extract-loaded fibre-enriched vesicles, nutriosomes, were prepared by combining antioxidant extracts obtained from grape pomaces and a prebiotic, soluble fibre (Nutriose®FM06). The nutriosomes were small in size (from ∼140 to 260 nm), homogeneous (polydispersity index < 0.2) and highly negative (∼ −79 mV). The vesicles were highly stable during 12 months of storage at 25 °C. When diluted with warmed (37 °C) acidic medium (pH 1.2) of high ionic strength, the vesicles only displayed an increase of the mean diameter and a low release of the extract, which were dependent on Nutriose concentration.
