COVID-19 Pandemic: Prevention and protection measures to be adopted at the workplace

2020

Introduction: SARS-CoV-2, identified in Wuhan, China, for the first time in December 2019, is a new viral strain, which has not been previously identified in humans; it can be transmitted both by air and via direct and indirect contact; however, the most frequent way it spreads is via droplets. Like the other viruses belonging to the same family of coronaviruses, it can cause from mild flu-like symptoms, such as cold, sore throat, cough and fever, to more severe ones such as pneumonia and breathing difficulties, and it can even lead to death. Since no effective specific drug therapy has been found yet, nor any vaccine capable of limiting the spread of this pathogen, it is important for way…

Graphical analysis of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of two consecutive irreversible electron transfers. 2. Zinc anodic dissolution in acid m…

2006

The graphical analysis of the impedance plots is used in the study of the electrodic systems that take place through two consecutive single electron transfers. The zinc anodic dissolution is studied by using this procedure. The characteristic points easily allow us to explain and to simulate the impedance behavior of this electrodic system according to the steady-state potential and the roughness of the working electrode. The direct procedure for parametrical identification from the graphical analysis allows us to reduce the time needed for an impedance experiment. This graphical analysis is suggested for studying thin coated galvanized steels.

Direct Writing on Copper Ion Doped Silica Films by Electrogeneration of Metallic Microstructures

2017

International audience; A facile and rapid localized electrochemical reduction of colloid copper particles is proposed using the scanning electrochemical, microscope (SECM), technique. In this purpose, thin films of composite silica :glass containing copper salts were prepared by the sol-gel method via the dip coating technique. Acid-catalyzed tetraethylorthosilane (TEOS) solutions charged with copper nitrate were used as precursors. This one-pot experiment can be performed in mild conditions. The localized generation of copper metallic nanostructures on silica film has been performed by electroreduction of methyl viologen on an ultramicroelectrode (UME). The UME generates reducing species, …

Correlationship between microscopic observations and electrochemical behaviour of different kind of galvanized steel.

2005

Zinc anodic dissolution has been studied according to the steel galvanized method by means of the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and microscopic observations. Relevant information on the galvanized method is provided by the analysis of experimental data. The galvanized method has no influence on the kinetics parameters of the zinc anodic dissolution process. The galvanized method only changes the surface texture of the working electrode. Thus, the EIS fitting allows to calculate the fractal dimension of the surface of the working electrode.

Correlation between the fractal dimension of the electrode surface and the EIS of the zinc anodic dissolution for different kinds of galvanized steel

2004

The roughness of the working electrode is one of the factors that affects the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) data of the zinc anodic dissolution process. The fractal dimension of digital images of shooping plate, hot dip galvanized steel, continuous hot-dipped galvanized steel and electro-galvanized steel are related with their respective EIS data. Keywords: EIS, Fractal dimension, Roughness, Galvanized steel, Corrosion

Fe(III)-DOTA/Fe(III)-NOTA Complexes: Attractive Alternative Markers for Future Electrochemical Biosensors

2020

Metallic complexes of macrocycles chelators 1,4,7-triazacyclononane-N,N,N-triacetic acid (NOTA) and 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid (DOTA) were synthetized with iron (III) giving Fe(III)-DOTA and Fe(III)-NOTA complexes. They were studied in comparison of ferricyanide and ferrocenemethanol on cyclic voltammetry with glassy carbon working electrode (GC) and screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE). Diffusion coefficients and heterogeneous electron transfer rate constants were determined with Randles-Sevcik and Nicholson-Lavagnini methods. Using SPCE. The average values of diffusion coefficient and transfer rate constant were respectively of 1.34 × 10−6 cm2 s−1 and 1.01 …

Security Implications of Using Third-Party Resources in the World Wide Web

2018

Modern web pages have nothing in common with the static connotation coming from the word “page” - it is a dynamic unique experience created by active content and executed within browser, just-in-time assembled from various resources hosted on many different domains. Active content increases attack surface naturally exposing users to many novel threats. A popular security advice has been to deploy active content blocker plugins like NoScript, unfortunately they are not capable to effectively stop the attacks. Content Security Policy (CSP) can be effective against these attacks, but we demonstrate how poor decisions made by website administrators or external resource hosters can render CSP in…

User-oriented evaluation of mechanical single-channel axial pipettes.

2013

Hand tools should be designed so that they are comfortable to use, fit the hand and are user-oriented. Six different manual, single-channel axial pipettes were evaluated for such objective outcomes as muscular activity, wrist postures and efficiency, as well as for subjective outcomes concerning self-assessed features of pipette usability and musculoskeletal strain. Ten experienced laboratory employees volunteered for the study. The results showed that light and short pipettes with better tool comfort resulted in reduced muscular activity and perceived musculoskeletal strain when they were compared with a long and heavy pipette. There were no differences in the efficiency between the differ…

Microanalysis of the surfaces of natural iron-based minerals by means of synchrotron radiation based experimental techniques

2001

We investigated the surfaces of natural iron-based minerals that are magnetite, hematite, goethite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, bornite and vivianite, using synchrotron radiation based techniques. Most iron chalkogenides are very suitable for photoemission microscopy studies due to their low resistivity, which prevents from surface charging. The local compositions were studied employing photoemission microscopy in combination with X-ray absorption spectroscopy. Imaging of the sample in the near-edge region of the absorption edges was used to visualise the spatial distributions of the chemical phases on the surface. Distributions of trace elements are imaged with high chemical and late…

Electronic and magnetic properties of Mn 12 molecular magnets on sulfonate and carboxylic acid prefunctionalized gold surfaces

2012

Structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of [Mn 12O 12(bet) 16(EtOH) 4](PF 6) 14·4CH 3CN·H 2O (in short Mn 12bet, bet = betaine = +N(CH 3) 3-CH 2-COO -) single-molecule magnets (SMMs) deposited on previously functionalized gold surfaces have been investigated. Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) either of sodium mercaptoethanesulfonate (MES) or mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) are used as functionalization to avoid the direct interaction between the Mn 12bet molecules and the Au surface with the aim of preserving the main functional properties of the molecules. Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) analysis show deposited Mn 12bet SMMs well-isolated …
