Experimental and computational studies of transition metal complexes with polydentate amino- and amidophenolate ligands : synthesis, structure, react…
2013
Chelating polydentate ligands play a key role in several areas of modern coordination chemistry. They can be exploited, for example, in catalysis, bioinorganic chemistry, heavy metal abstraction and molecular magnetism. Furthermore, compounds of this type can be found in natural chemicals, commercial products and industrial applications. In this dissertation, several 3d, 4d and 5d transition metal complexes with polydentate amino- and amidophenolate ligands were prepared and their structure, reactivity and magnetic properties were studied with experimental and computational techniques. In the first part of the dissertation, the solid-state structure, reactivity and magnetic properties of 12…
Physiotherapists’ perceptions of learning and implementing a biopsychosocial intervention to treat musculoskeletal pain conditions : a systematic rev…
2020
Clinical practice guidelines recommend a biopsychosocial approach for the management of musculoskeletal pain conditions, but physiotherapists have reported feeling inadequately trained and lacking in confidence to deal with psychosocial issues. Although a growing number of studies is exploring physiotherapists’ perceptions of biopsychosocial training, the results have not been synthesized. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review and metasynthesis of qualitative studies was to explore physiotherapists’ perceptions of learning and implementing a biopsychosocial intervention to treat musculoskeletal pain conditions. A search of the electronic databases: MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, ERIC, Psyc…
Disturbances in cholesterol, bile acid and glucose metabolism in peroxisomal 3-ketoacylCoA thiolase B deficient mice fed diets containing high or low…
2014
SPE IPM UB; International audience; : The peroxisomal 3-ketoacyl-CoA thiolase B (ThB) catalyzes the thiolytic cleavage of straight chain 3-ketoacyl-CoAs. Up to now, the ability of ThB to interfere with lipid metabolism was studied in mice fed a routinely laboratory chow enriched or not with the synthetic agonist Wy14,643, a pharmacological activator of the nuclear hormone receptor PPARα. The aim of the present study was therefore to determine whether ThB could play a role in obesity and lipid metabolism when mice are chronically fed a synthetic High Fat Diet (HFD) or a Low Fat Diet (LFD) as a control diet. To investigate this possibility, wild-type (WT) mice and mice deficient for Thb (Thb(…
Synthetic Approaches to the Lamellarins—A Comprehensive Review
2014
The present review discusses the known synthetic routes to the lamellarin alkaloids published until 2014. It begins with syntheses of the structurally simpler type-II lamellarins and then focuses on the larger class of the 5,6-saturated and -unsaturated type-I lamellarins. The syntheses are grouped by the strategy employed for the assembly of the central pyrrole ring.

Nickel-Indium Sulphide Core-Shell Nanostructures Obtained by Spray-ILGAR Deposition
2013
Ni nanowires (NWs) of different lengths were fabricated by pulsed potentiostatic deposition within pores of polycarbonate membranes. After template dissolution, substrates underwent sequential Spray-ILGAR (R) depositions of thin indium sulphide films. The effect of deposition temperature was also investigated. For low number of deposition cycles, results showed complete and uniform covering of metal over the entire length of NWs, with formation of Ni - In2S3 core-shell structures. However, with increasing number of deposition cycles films became uneven and crusty, especially at higher temperatures, owing to the simultaneous formation of nickel sulfide. This drawback was almost eliminated do…
Nanostructured anode material for Li-ion battery obtained by galvanic process
2016
This work focused on the synthesis and characterization of nanostructured lead hydroxide chloride (PbOHCl) that is an innovative anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). In particular, we have obtained nanostructures of mixed PbOHCl and lead metal, directly into the pores of a commercially available alumina membrane, acting as template. The process was based on galvanic displacement reaction that was carried out in a two-compartment electrochemical cell without the use of an external power supply. This simple and cheap procedure gives regular array of Pb/PbOHCl composite nanowires. To obtain nanostructured electrodes is a significant result because, it’s well known that nanostructur…
Analogia e omologia: la questione della filogenesi delle emozioni
2013
Aim of this paper is to outline a new evolutionary interpretation of aesthetic emotions, in the light of the most recent developments in Evolutionary Biology, in particular the so-called “Extended Synthesis of Evolution” (Pigliucci-Müller 2010). Focussing on the biological concept of homology, the Author argues that, in order to effectively understand role and evolutionary value of aesthetic emotions, it should be asked not “what aesthetic emotions are for?”, rather “what kind of constraints and homologies influence the specific “shape” of human aesthetic emotions?”. In a few words, we should move from a functionalist approach to human aesthetic emotions towards a morphological one.
Arte da Linguagem na Era da Panofonia
2018
This article calls attention to the hybrid genre of voice-based performances and its blending of the supposed binaries of human and machinic speech. Using the concept of panophonia, the author refers to the animatronic sculptures of speaking figures created by Ken Feingold and to Mark Böhlen’s talking robots. Through their comparative analysis, the author explores different poetic metalanguages both artists create to deconstruct communicative structures that demarcate post-human era.
From Overstoichiometric to Substoichiometric Enantioselective Protonation with 2-Sulfinyl Alcohols: A View in Perspective
2005
A general study of the enantioselective protonation of prochiral enolates with 2-sulfinyl alcohols is reported. The modification of reaction conditions to reduce drastically the amount of chiral proton source needed to obtain a good enantiomeric excess is reported. The effects of the different factors controlling the stereoselectivity are clearly established. Different protocols for enolate generation are compared.
